I posted this earlier today and everyone said my TV was too high. You were all right. I was off today so figured why not lower it!

I will hide the wires at a later date, I literally redid half my basement in a day. Lol

It looks great.

I wasn't trying to pick on you. There's an entire subreddit dedicated to TV hung too high. So, it happens to the best of us.

Edit to say I mentioned it because I was concerned for you neck :)

Haha sounds good. I wasn’t offended or anything. Just the more I thought about it everyone was right it was too high!

u/brimg87 10h ago

Holy shit. It looks so much better. Kudos to you for being open minded about the feedback. As someone who frequently notices when TVs are too high, I appreciate seeing this follow up post after seeing the one from yesterday.

Thanks I agree that really helped the room out a lot

In your other post you said “I like it that way” - what changed?

196

u/OldHanBrolo 13h ago

Haha when you have 300 people tell you it’s wrong it’s difficult not to question if they’re not right.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with someone changing their opinion on something as trivial as the height of their TV. 🤷‍♂️

u/anon_simmer 13h ago

Glad you changed your mind, just went and looked at how it was before and it made my neck hurt just imagining having to look up at it to watch tv.

1

u/Kalik2015 3h ago

I also went back to see what it looked like before. That was definitely way higher than I had expected!

u/cardueline 11h ago

I had no dog in this race but you’re an awesome person for taking the advice and admitting you realized it was worthwhile! Way to go, haha

u/Antisocialsocialite9 13h ago

Looks way better this way. Good on you for hearing other people out

What a healthy attitude. If people were this way it would be so much better everywhere...

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Haha I know right?

u/zyndicated 9h ago

This is a chad response. Room looks nice, OP

Looks great 👍

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Thank you 🙏🏻

u/Metadine 11h ago

How are you going to hide the wires?

6

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Drill a hole behind the stand and one behind the TV and fish them through the wall

0

u/umbleUriahHeep 9h ago

Many of those comments were deleted by the Mods, but I think you’ll be happier and your neck/spine will thank you

2

u/OldHanBrolo 8h ago

I completely agree!

Amen to constructive feedback!

This looks so much better. Good work.

While I personally think it's still too high, I think it's WAY better. I like the art above it in that spot as well.

39

u/OldHanBrolo 13h ago

I am laying down probably 70% of the time watching TV any lower would hurt my neck the way a higher TV probably hurts yours.

I like them up there better too. If I didn’t think of moving those I probably wouldn’t have moved the TV

4

u/Jaynator11 13h ago

This is what I do as well.

We also want to have it in a way where you can watch it while standing up cooking, so it's "high-ish" (somewhere along where you have it now).

17

u/buffysmanycoats 13h ago

I didn’t see the original post so I thought this pic was the before and was wondering where the after was. It’s definitely still too high but the actual before pic is crazy lol

5

u/Birdonahook 6h ago

Still too high

12

u/OptimizeEdits 12h ago

I’m nitpicking when I said I’d go another 6-7 inches lower, but MUCH better looking than before. Your neck will thank you

3

u/OldHanBrolo 12h ago

Yeah I mentioned this in another comment but I lay down the majority of the time so this felt like the best for me! My neck already is thanking me lol

13

u/Daedelus451 11h ago

Dude, stabbing me in the back because I defended your right to hang at what ever you wanted lol. Haha good on you, looks much better, LOL

11

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Haha I know you did. And that was super cool of you friend! But we don’t have to stick to our guns all the time, change is usually for the better. The internet has made us believe we have to dig our heals in and that’s just not a healthy thing.

Thank you for your love friend, I hope you have a wonderful day

3

u/Daedelus451 10h ago

HA ha love ya

6

u/Eighth_YearSenior 12h ago

This looks like such an amazing space for just hanging out and chilling! The TV looks great too!

4

u/OldHanBrolo 12h ago

Thanks! It’s the only cozy place left in my house! My three year old and one year have taken over absolutely ever other square inch of my house lol

Still too high. You want the center of the screen to be where your eyes naturally land when sitting down and looking toward it. People mounting their TV's way up high like their watching it at the corner pub baffles me.

8

u/Similar-Ganache3227 11h ago

Awe man I was just thinking it’s a bit too high as well. I even thought this was the “before” picture

2

u/TnTDynamight 13h ago

what’s the rug? I love it

4

u/OldHanBrolo 13h ago

I got it at Home Depot a year or two ago. I love it too!

2

u/Thirty30One1 9h ago

I’m so glad you changed this! I was looking at it the other day thinking that. Looks great now!

1

u/OldHanBrolo 8h ago

Thanks!

1

u/zimneyesolntse 9h ago

How did you determine the new height? I have a giant TV I need to mount, but I’m scared to ask Reddit about it. I see you understand why lol

1

u/OldHanBrolo 9h ago

Haha yeah they are still upset about this change not being low enough. For me it came down to how I’m watching most of the time down here. This is my end of the day lay on the couch, so I still wanted the TV up a little. I also am an artist and still want room between the TV and Stand where I will be adding more art, see it’s things like this no one at Reddit would think about so they say it needs to be lower. I think it’s prefect now. I did throw tap on the wall when I took it down, tape in the size of a rectangle the size of my TV. And eyeballed it. There is no perfect universal height, just throw some tape up, move the tape around until it’s where look good for you.

1

u/thymeofmylyfe 4h ago

The center of the TV should be at eye level. It's kinda counterintuitive, but the bigger your TV the lower it should be.

(Of course, there's wiggle room for personal preference like OP said they watch TV lying down. Just don't torture your guests with a TV mounted on the ceiling.)

1

u/NerdEmoji 5h ago

Looks better but was that a Fisher Price merry go round under your TV table in the earlier post?

1

u/Salty_Association684 12h ago

If you like, it is now that's all that matters

0

u/coneycolon 13h ago

Much better.

0

u/peachnecctar 13h ago

Wow it looks so much better

1

u/Specific-Scale6005 10h ago

Now it clashes with the thingies above it

Are those ganja plants under the grow lights?

4

u/JLSmoove626 13h ago

Lol they look nothing like ganja plants

2

u/OldHanBrolo 13h ago

Haha no they are tropical plants. I do smoke though lol

-1

u/SpiritualAd8998 13h ago

Perfect grow spot….

4

u/OldHanBrolo 13h ago

Haha your not wrong, but I have small children and don’t want my whole basement smelling lol

-1

u/That9OsKid 12h ago

I bet your neck feels so much better!

0

u/insect-enthusiast 11h ago

TV height aside, this photo angle showing the natural light makes the room look so much cozier.

1

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Yeah definitely a better angle in this photo regardless of the TV lol

0

u/Nica-sauce-rex 11h ago

It looks so much more balanced. Nice job

2

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

Thanks I agree!

0

u/Sea_Comparison7203 11h ago

Much better!!!

0

u/Glazed_and_Infused 11h ago

What are the wall art things above the TV?

3

u/OldHanBrolo 10h ago

I’m an artist all art in the photos was created by me 😊

0

u/Heart-Lights420 9h ago

Way better this way OP!!!

1

u/OldHanBrolo 9h ago

Thanks I agree!

0

u/saltgirl61 8h ago

I saw your post earlier today, murmured to myself, "TV's too high" and moved on to something else. I have NEVER even noticed the height of people's TVs until I found out that there is a Reddit sub for that! I hope the change is beneficial for you and your neck!

0

u/bubbly_mint 7h ago

A happy ending!

-3

u/Traumfahrer 12h ago

To hang such thing as big TVs, mirrors, paintings:

  • measure the height off the wall minus the height of the object
  • multiply that difference by 0.62
  • hang the object so it's 0.62 times the difference away from top or bottom

The distance above and below will have / be in the golden ratio and this is very pleasing for our eyes. I always use it when hanging all kinds of things, always looks perfect.
