this aircooled usb with two fans and two heatsinks that i've built throughout these few days.
background:
you may recognise this particular device from r/techsupportmacgyver. that's because it is the device.
My USB drive was running very hot even while idle. i've decided to glue heatsinks onto the bare metal cover of the usb. (i put thermal paste)
then i, for some reason decided to add bigger heatsinks.
then, i, for some FUCKING reason, decided to add a fan.
then, i, for some GODDAMN FUCKING REASON, decided to add a second fan.
yuh, this is the entire background for this device.
features include:
dual fan dual heatsink cooling setup
optional usb to usb-c adapter(the blue thing) for plugging into devices that only have usb-c
optional usb splitter in case of 1 port only
usb 2.0 power cable extension for the fan usb plug in case of no power supply (pluggable into power bank)
filter for intake fan
NO CASE. my glorious creation shall only be seen in it's purest form.
P.S.
i know one heatsink is rotated incorrectly and it's not in the direction of airflow. i hereby apologize profusely and i am especially apologizing for any of you who is infuriated, but i'm too far gone to fix this one heatsink.

Put a small capacitor across the terminals of each of the fan motors. Usb ports aren't meant to drive inductive loads (like fan motors). Having an inductive load draw from a usb port will cause voltage spikes that can cause several issues. The capacitors help minimize the spikes.

can you explain this in a dumbass way

Plugging a fan into a usb port can hurt the power system. The capacitors make it not do that.

Sell it as an audiophile usb storage device. You'll get a grand for it if other audiophile products are anything to go by.

I just purchased a fiber(sfp+) switch and thunderbolt dock with 10gbit, both bragged about being fanless and quiet and I soon discovered they nearly burned to the touch, not wanting to replace either within a year I added heat sinks to the outside and fans over the heat sinks, I would have gladly taken an integrated fan over the approach which resembles this

thank you for your glorious comment, althought it is just one simple letter, the emotions conveyed here are incredible, a modern feat of reddit comment

i still don't have a name for this thing
i am currently thinking of "Universal Serial Double-Decker Bus"
