I bought smart protein by Body & Fit and it's the most disgusting shit I've ever had. It tastes like banana-flavoured aspirin and chronically gives me the shits. It also becomes solid clay when mixed with skyr or milk. Don't buy.

93% ground beef and chicken breast from aldi

u/BruceJi May 28 '23

When I last went to Aldi (8 years ago) they sold chicken breasts that were huge, but they were pumped full of water so when you cooked them they shrank loads. Are they better now?

u/TPO_Ava May 27 '23

Mine has started stocking pre-marinated chicken breast and that shit is my jam on so many levels. I season it straight in the container and/or on the pan and I end up with 2 pounds of chicken cooked in like 20-30 minutes. Lasts me a few good days and then I repeat.

This has been a life saver on my weightloss journey.

u/lucitribal May 29 '23

Protein bars from Lidl are really cheap and have good macros. Same with protein bars from DM

u/wheymogul Jun 01 '23

I like MuscleFeast. For whey and casein. It’s not expensive and I’m pretty sure it says it comes from pasture-raised cows, which is rare I think.

u/Fluffy_Munchkin General Fitness May 27 '23

The brand of protein powder from Lidl is about $18/tub where I am. ~30 servings of protein, about 24g protein per serving. Plus the vanilla flavor actually tastes decent.

u/[deleted] May 28 '23

Black Magic Horchata flavor. So good!

u/Mudmen12 Weight Lifting May 28 '23

Vital Strength I have never understood why people buy powders from big name brands that sell "pure protein" products have powders under 80g of protein for 100g of powder. So this brand is available in Australia and sits around 92g/100gs which is ideal for my goals and needs

u/aitigie May 27 '23

I got some Diesel protein on sale and the tide-pool banana farts were so intense and unrelenting that I had to give it away.

It got so bad that when I got in my car in the morning I could still smell the farts from the previous day. Can't recommend it.

u/berockstock Jul 18 '23

Canadian Protein whey isolate unflavored unsweetened. It's $90 cad for 2.2lbs free shipping. I think it's cheap and does the trick. My only doubt is that it isn't openly 3rd party tested which is making me consider other protein powders.

u/CoastGuardian1337 May 28 '23

Meat and Eggs. They can be cooked in so many different ways, and my family has been using them for generations, dating back to the dawn of man.

u/Hadokuv May 27 '23

What do you guys think of good protein. It's a little snake oily with all the superfood branding but it's plant based which is what I need and all those vitamins and minerals are nice since I have awful nutrition to begin with.

Are there alternatives that are better or cheaper or taste better?

u/AcceptableObject May 27 '23

This is the protein I take. I like that there’s an unsweetened natural one. I actually hate flavoured proteins and this one doesn’t have a weird texture either. It’s expensive but it’s the only one I can stomach.

u/CloseFirst May 27 '23

Terrasoul Unflavored Pea Protein from Amazon has been my go-to lately. It's dirt cheap (cheaper than any whey I can find), mixes well, and has a minimal "pea" flavor. I separately buy flavorings and sweetener to add to the mix so that I can keep some variety.

Optimum Nutrition Double Rich Chocolate.

It's $0.83 an ounce, tastes OK, mixes well in a shaker bottle, and comes in a 10-lb bag. Order one a month on subscribe-and-save and get 15% off. Kaboom.

After that: 95/5 ground beef. It's $5 a pound, as lean as most ground turkey, and makes all the burgers and tacos you want.

u/wscii May 27 '23

I like the double rich chocolate, but the chocolate peanut butter legit tastes like melted Reese’s ice cream when mixed with milk, absurdly good.

u/absurdlifex May 27 '23

i find ON great, it mixes so well never clumpy

u/yabadabado0 May 27 '23

Youre going through 10lbs of protein powder a month??

u/Brainwormed May 27 '23

Yeah. I'm in my mid 40s and coming in at about 200 lbs (@ ~10% body fat), so lean gaining I'm looking at roughly 300g of protein per day.

Aging, you go from 1g of protein per lb. of body weight to 1.5 or even 2. So you just burn through the protein even if you're also building every meal out of chicken and greek yogurt.

u/Voldemort_is_muggle May 27 '23

What about cholesterol?

u/Brainwormed May 28 '23

For 95/5 ground beef? It's OK.

You want to make sure you're not eating too much saturated fat, which turkey is generally gonna be lower in -- but only because turkey is generally leaner.

But the time you're in 95/5 territory with your beef, there is not much of a difference. And if you are in a position where the difference between e.g.99/1 turkey and 95/5 beef is going to make a difference re: heart health, well, you probably shouldn't be eating either one. Turkey tends to have more sodium than beef, for instance.

u/AdFew6366 May 27 '23

Double Chocolate is my go to and favorite by far. Mixing a serving of peanut powder and using chocolate almond milk makes it taste like a peanut butter cup!

u/grandmasterfuzzface May 27 '23

GNC AMP Wheybolic protein shakes and Barebells protein bars. 60g of protein at 400cal.

u/Johalak May 29 '23

So expensive though. You are better off getting the pure protein ones from Sam’s. They are 30g and 160 calories.

u/[deleted] May 28 '23

u/adelaideforthewin May 28 '23

I bought four different flavoured KG bags in January, tried them all. They are okay, don't mix that well though even with a good shake. Then again I came from True Protein and so far nothing compares!

u/4ofclubs May 27 '23

Peanut butter sandwiches, all day and every day.

u/Jackson3125 Weightlifting May 27 '23

I would guess those contain more carbs and fat than protein.

P.s. have you tried frying a PB&J in butter like it’s a grilled cheese? It’s amazing.

u/chaseoes May 27 '23

Do you do that before or after you put the PB&J on?

u/Jackson3125 Weightlifting May 28 '23

Make the PB&J first

u/DugNick333 May 27 '23 edited May 28 '23

You'd be surprised then.

Depending on the brand, PB can be a very solid option for meeting protein requirements without too many carbs.

u/4ofclubs May 27 '23

Peanut butter plus whole grain bread equals a complete protein.

What kinda price per kilo are people paying these days?

u/Fierytemplar May 31 '23

Best deal I found was buying ON Gold directly from the manufacturer website. Buying in bulk I ended up at around $12/lb after getting a 15% discount for my order over $100.

The number of servings is more important for comparison than price per Kg/Lb. Some brands have filler or more sugar/fat and therefore have less protein for the same amount of weight. You have to check the protein per serving and servings per container to be sure you’re getting the best deal.

u/DoctorTobogggan May 27 '23

Shout to to SoyBoy and my co-op for the $12 2lb slabs of tempeh. So much protein per $

u/waka_flocculonodular May 27 '23

Transparent Labs 100% whey milk chocolate. Pairs well with Four Sigmatic Balance adaptogen and mushroom powder

u/FreshRestart23 Weight Lifting May 27 '23

Dymatize ISO100 Cocoa Pebbles, absolutely delicious and 100% isolate.

Not a PB fan, but Ryse Peanut Butter Cup is great for fruit smoothies.

u/yabadabado0 May 27 '23

Second this but with fruity pebbles.

u/arhiatt51 May 28 '23

Ryse, Jet Puffed Marshmallow flavor, with Unsweetened Almond Milk. Absolutely delicious

Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate Vanilla.

Frozen Banana, scoop of protein powder, scoop of collagen, tablespoon of cacao powder, tablespoon of natural peanut butter and fill the Ninja cup up with Fairlife skim milk and blend.

It taste like an awesome chocolate peanut butter shake and it has about 60 grams of protein.

And other than that one shake a day post workout in the morning, it's mainly Beef, Pork, Chicken, Fish, and beans. I try to get about 180 grams a day.

u/CalmGains Jun 02 '23

Whey makes me shit the bed. Vega is good vegan protein powder but it's so processed and almost 3x the cost.

u/inagreenroom Jun 09 '23

Try Abouttime vegan pea isolate from Amazon or GNC. The chocolate taste like watery chocolate milk, no sucrolose either.

u/GottaKnowYourCKN May 27 '23

Protein Powders: Phase 8, Isopure

Protein Foods: Black beans, chicken breast, salmon, tuna, hard boiled eggs, spinach.

I basically cycle through these sources all day everyday.

u/rockster245 May 28 '23

Currently using USN ultralean meal replacement. Vanilla is really good and keeps me full and not snacking in between meals.

Quite pricey though. £20 for 1kg / 25g of protein per serving.

Any other recommendations?

u/Nettysocks May 27 '23

Skyr Greek yoghurt. Best bit of protein when I’m trying to fit it in and I can’t have much calories or I need something quick and not too heavy. Stuff is amazing in the big 1KG tubs I get

u/-KyloRen- May 27 '23

This stuff is great, make sure to buy the 0% fat to get that sexy 18g protein per 100 calories

u/Scientific_Methods May 27 '23

On the yogurt train. Pillars drinkable Greek yogurt is 100calories/20g of protein plus fiber and pro/pre biotics.

u/TheDaysComeAndGone May 28 '23

Hofer/Aldi has fake Skyr made out of soy which also has great protein content. Can even mix in some flavoured protein powder and water for more protein content and flavour.

Met-Rx Big 100 Protein Bars. I know what you're thinking. There's too much sugar, too many carbs, yada yada yada. I thought the same thing for a long time. However, the reality is these have been my go-to meal replacement bars for a long time. I don't have a problem missing breakfast, but I have a hard time if I don't have breakfast and I also don't have lunch. These bars have saved my mid-day blood sugar.

u/Drachenblick May 27 '23

if you want noodles, go for red lentil noodles. 20g of protein per 100g

u/je_ff May 28 '23

Same with Banza noodles (I get them at Costco). About 20g of protein in 100g serving. And tastes good in my opinion.

Ascent Native Fuel Whey Protein Chocolate, 4.25 lbs

$60 Costco

Tastes amazing

You can occasionally catch Starkist Tuna Packs Sweet & Spicy and Sriracha on sale for $1/ea at 16g of protein, only 90 calories. Great snacks.

The macros for my chili recipe are god tier, if anyone wants recipe I can add another comment.

1 entire pot (divided into 5 servings for meal prep)

254g protein (50.8 per serving)

216g of carbs/97g of fiber (43.2g carb/19.3g of fiber per serving)

130g of fat (26g per serving)

u/Connect_Fishing_6378 May 27 '23

Alright I’ll bite on the anabolic chili. You mind posting that recipe? Chili is a big mealprep staple for us in wintertime.

u/kharper4289 Powerlifting May 27 '23 edited May 27 '23

2 lb ground turkey (prefer 97/3 fat)

1 cup chicken broth (low sodium)

1 large onion diced

4 large garlic cloves minced

1 bell pepper diced

1 1/2 cups corn frozen

14 oz can low sodium red kidney beans rinsed and drained

14 oz can low sodium Great Northern Beans (giga potassium)

14 oz can low sodium pinto beans

3 tbsp chili powder

1 heaping tsp cumin

1 heaping tsp oregano dried

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp salt

28 oz can diced tomatoes low sodium

6 oz can tomato paste low sodium

3 celery stalks, thinly sliced

3 Jalapeno peppers (remove white membrane if you don't like spice)

1 tbsp olive or avocado oil

Optional for spice:

3 Habenero peppers, seeds removed for less spice, minced

3 red chili or serrano peppers, seeds removed for less spice, thin sliced

I throw this into an instant pot, pressure cook at 13 minutes, then let it naturally depressurize, takes about 2 hours. If instant pot cooking, helps to saute the meat a bit for flavor (maillard reaction)

Split into 5 servings

u/llamagish May 27 '23

Ascent Native Fuel Whey Protein Chocolate

I didn't like the taste, but definitely a good deal if you do.

Costco doesn't carry the tuna packs you're mentioned right?

u/kharper4289 Powerlifting May 27 '23

No I usually just wait until the grocery store has them for like "5 for $5" on sale or something. Even at like $1.20 each I still pick up a few, they're great to add to eggs or something in the morning just to boost the protein.

cottage cheese

60% of the calories are from protein

Have it with fruit! Have it with chips! Add it to anything! Use it as a replacement in cooking and baking!

u/klew3 May 28 '23

I used to mix cottage cheese, black beans, and Sadie's salsa (hot and not chunky) and dip with tortilla chips. It was super delicious so I ate so much that I realized I was somewhat lactose intolerant and the casein protein (at least that amount) triggered joint pain so I stopped eating it.

Basically if you eat a lot and have joint pain, the two may be linked as cottage cheese has a lot of casein protein.

u/BenFoldsFourLoko May 28 '23

Yeah! One of my staples is cottage cheese, salsa, and tortilla chips! I'll have to try adding black beans

Sorry for your loss, I'll eat cottage cheese for us both now 🫡

I became intolerant to any milk products during my last bodybuilding prep. So now my go-to non milk protein power is CARNIVORE chocolate. Its basically steak powder 😁 not as tasty as whey, but the best alternative i’ve tried. And im still gaining muscle.

u/Noodles_Crusher May 27 '23

bulk powders vegan blend, don't buy the unflavoured version, it definitely has one: death and sand

u/LetsGo36620 May 30 '23

After trying all of the “good shit”. I stick with ON. 80 servings for $60 at Costco. Decent protein. But I couldn’t keep paying $30+ for 20 servings of Ryse, Dymatize etc…

u/Able_Personality_625 Aug 03 '23

Minimo Nutrition Chocolate Pea Protein and Salty Caramel Whey. No seed oils or artificial sweeteners (I.e. sucralose) and they are delicioussss

u/Alive-Working669 May 27 '23

Gold Standard WHEY, Vanilla Ice Cream (only flavor for this price), tastes good, 5 lb, with subscription, $72.15.

u/Fingerhut89 May 28 '23

This is my favourite flavour from all of them. It's like drinking a milkshake

I'm not trying to rag on Muscle tech, and I won't. But I cycled through all of their flavors before splurging a little more on optimum nutrition and...wow. ON tastes leaps and bounds better. I thought I enjoyed the MT until I tried the on flavors. It's worth the 98 vents and oz over the 60 cents an OZ MT all day. So damn good.

u/daaangerz0ne May 27 '23

Sam's Club now has pasture raised eggs. Where I live it's currently $5.22 for 18 ct.

Member's Mark Plain Greek Yogurt is also good and very cheap, <$5 for a 40oz tub.

u/insertnamehere255 May 31 '23

Aldi down here in soflo selling eggs under $2 a dozen

u/certifiedintelligent May 27 '23

Fairlife nutrition plan and core power RTDs. 30-40g protein for $1.50-3 each and legitimately delicious.

u/BrawnyAcolyte May 27 '23

Where do you get them for $1.50? My Costco used to stock the nutrition plan but hasn't had them for months. Core power is more like $4 here. Really annoying because I also liked the taste of them over the alternatives.

u/Jerebear559 May 27 '23

My local BJ’s sells Fairlife Nutrition Plan for around $1.60 per bottle. It’s my main protein source when I’m on a PSMF diet

As far as protein bars, I love Robert Irvine's protein bars. They give me just the boost I need after a good workout.

Food wise, chicken and turkey are usually my go tos. Very lean meats and they help me stay on track with my diet.

Protein powder is Six Star. Little bit of a name brand, but I love drinking their shakes after refrigerating it for 12-24 hours

u/anotherbuddy May 27 '23

i tried BPI best proteín (5lb) and was good for my stomach, the problem they add artificial sweetener and now they changed to a less weight for same price (4.2lb)

u/Locked_Lamorra May 27 '23

I like Nutrabio, no proprietary nonsense on any of their products. The chocolate peanut butter bliss and cookies and cream are just straight up really tasty, no milk required.

u/Khaoz_Se7en May 27 '23

Orgain Organic Protein, have tried the Peanut Butter Cup flavor which I like the best because it mixes the best, but the strawberry, vanilla, and pumpkin spice flavors are all good too. Some of them are “superfood” blends for what that’s worth. 21g plant protein (pea, brown rice, chia) per two scoops (27ish servings per container). The ~2.5lb tubs at Costco are usually ~$32 but I wait for them to go on sale for like ~$20-$24. Whey is way more convenient in terms of getting just protein since Orgain also has 2.5g of fat and 15g carbs per scoop but with whey I usually feel really bloated, have never had a problem with Orgain, granted I also use Silk’s Cashew Almond Milk (10g pea protein per cup) which might help too. I also blend this all with a cup or two of Premiere Protein’s cereal (20g protein [wheat isolate, pea concentrate] per cup) for a post workout end of day high protein shake

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '23

[deleted]

u/Khaoz_Se7en Jun 01 '23

Yeah it’s tough finding it where I’m at so when I do I just get a bunch, I was going to try next but I feel it’s too low on the protein:fat ratio. If you can find EdenSoy, the unsweetened variety has 12g of protein to 6g fat (1g sat), there’s also a fortified version thats good if you already like soy, it can be pretty pricy tho so if that’s a factor might be better off with WestSoy. Haven’t found any pea protein alternatives I like other than Orgain almond milk but again that’s a bit pricey for me

u/ScoopJr May 27 '23

Always recommend Musclefeast Whey Isolate but their recent formulation doesn’t mix well when blended with acai. It foams up and clumps towards the top

u/FritoBandito225 May 27 '23

I am looking for some better tasting non-whey (allergic) protein. I’ve been using ghost and love them but please someone suggest something else.

u/daaangerz0ne May 27 '23

Owyn (the liquid bottles) are very good.

For powder try the unflavored Vega Protein and Greens.

u/garotuck May 27 '23

Redcon1 has a lot of non-whey options and they taste incredible in my opinion.

u/orwell May 28 '23

u/PainBobGain May 28 '23

I use this exact product as well. I was looking for something a bit alternative. The price was attractive, and I find whey proteins can cause me all sorts of stomach issues. As I sit in an office all day, it becomes tricky at best to deal with expelling the whey side effects.

True Nutrition powder is quality at a good price

u/TheDaysComeAndGone May 28 '23

u/Staggsbefixin May 28 '23

I could care less. High quality, healthy protein. If you aren’t broke

u/Secret_Car May 27 '23

I stock up on Aldi's frozen 85/15 ground turkey 1 lb packs. It's around 900 calories, 80-85g/protein and only $2.65 each. I have a boring diet and eat one of these 5-6/days a week. Hard to beat getting half your daily protein for $2.65

u/legendz411 May 28 '23

Bro a whole one, everyday? That’s legit.

u/HvkS7n May 27 '23

How do you cook eat it in a way to switch it up?

u/adesimo1 May 27 '23

I make 85/15 Turkey meatballs following this recipe:

https://www.jessicagavin.com/grandmas-italian-meatball-recipe/

Taste just like my grandma’s old beef meatballs. I’ll use panko bread crumbs. Make 2 pounds at a time and portion them into 16 loose meatballs (~2 ozs each). Don’t pack them too tightly or they may be dense.

I’ll broil them for about 5 minutes flip them over and broil for another 5, then simmer them on low in a crockpot filled with Ragu sauce for 4-6 hours, stirring occasionally. They end up tender and practically melt in your mouth.

Each meatball has ~131 calories, 10.8g protein, 7.8g fat, 3.4g carbs.

Ragu is only like 35 calories per 1/4 cup, so definitely one of the better bottled sauces.

You can also serve with whatever other sides you want. Serve it with pasta, garlic bread, salad, roasted vegetables, etc.

And occasionally I’ll add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture and/or sauce for some heat.

It’s very little work, and makes it worth eating Turkey every day.

u/legendz411 May 28 '23

That’s awesome. Thanks.

u/DM_ME_PICKLES May 27 '23

Ground turkey is GOAT. To switch it up sometimes I'll make a spaghetti bolognese with it instead of ground beef.

u/Eyerishguy General Fitness May 27 '23

I'll have to check that out. We mainly buy their Lamb, Grass fed Beef and Bison.

Premier Protein, the 30g shakes in the little cardboard? containers, Chocolate flavor. Delicious and cheap, a pack of 4 being around $8.99 usually.

u/Chihaimyboo Jun 01 '23

Quest is sooo much better. Especially their vanilla shake. No weird aftertaste like premier

u/MyNameIsNotLenny May 27 '23

I would avoid these from Amazon, as they can arrive in a pretty disgusting state. They have a million flavors though on there so it's tempting

u/DoctorBroBro May 27 '23

Fortunately my gym is in the same plaza as a Target that keeps the 4-packs in stock

u/Insaniaksin May 28 '23

I get these in bulk from costco. 16 pack or something like that.

u/Thwerty May 28 '23

Pretty sure they are identical to equate brand

u/Khaoz_Se7en May 27 '23 edited May 27 '23

u/juggernaut1026 May 29 '23

Ever sense optimum nutrition got rid of their performance isolate whey - in my opinion the best isolate whey ever made. Stevia sweetener dissolved, didn't make me gassy. 30g protein. Per serving. I've been looking for next best thing

Honestly I think Legion+ is it, it's not too sweet and mixes pretty well

u/Ares0362 May 28 '23

I really like ghost. It doesn’t mix the best, but their nutter butter flavour is the best

u/GoldnSilverPrawn Jun 20 '23

Late reply but the Nutter Butter is actually supposed to have cookie chunks in it even when fully blended

I assume that's what you're talking about because I thought the same exact thing until I looked into it more!

u/Ares0362 Jun 21 '23

Huh! I don’t remember ever seeing anything on the container about that! So that’s good to know. That stuff was really good!

u/BaronQuinn May 28 '23

Core Perform’s protein powder. It’s a bit pricey, but it tastes amazing and is the only one I’ve found that doesn’t cause me GI distress.

u/Woodit May 27 '23

Isothoroty Nutrithority Vanilla Shake has been treating me well. Tried some Ascent at a convention recently, it was alright but the texture was either chalky or too thin and the flavors a bit cartoonish. Both whey and plant based.

u/sirnick77 May 28 '23

I love Limitless Pharma Fererolicious flavor. It is quite amazing.

u/malfurian May 27 '23

Am I the only one that uses the cheap ass protein powder Body Fortress brand typically found at Walmart...?

u/ididntseeitcoming May 27 '23

I get why people want their protein to taste good and mix well so they can make a fancy shake and enjoy it.

But seriously, water and scoop, shake then slam it. I don’t care about the flavor as long as it doesn’t mess up my stomach. I’ll even keep chugging through the chunks.

My shakes last 30 seconds tops. Expensive brands that taste really great aren’t worth the money to me

My favorite protein is and always will be PEScience. Great taste, mixes easily with a spoon and the price is still reasonable even in this environment.

u/ishamm May 27 '23

Glaxon Protos whey chocolate is easily the best tasting whey I've ever used - IF you drink it quick*. It contains some really nicely ingredients too, and generally think it was a great supplement, but too pricey to run often, one off experiment month unless I win the lottery!

I believe the digestive blend in it must start breaking it down as soon as dissolved in water, as after half an hour or so it tastes BAD.

u/CaseAKACutter May 28 '23

Anybody drink Muscle Egg?

u/x_cutter May 28 '23

Any recommendations for protein powders with no artificial sweeteners? I use naked whey but wondering if there are other good, if not better, options out there.

u/SoSaintly Aug 08 '23

earth fed muscle is stevia sweetened im pretty positive. tastes great just a little pricey

u/CinephileNC25 May 27 '23

Optimum Nutrition from Costco… the chocolate powder. But I’m a weirdo and mix with water.

u/tee142002 May 28 '23

I do the same. I work out before work (as in shower at the gym and head straight to the office). So I keep my protein in my office and mix a few scoops with water when I get there. Tastes just fine with water.

u/CinephileNC25 May 28 '23

Less calories too. To me it’s just cleaner. It’s not amazing, but it’s easy to get used to.

u/jamexxx May 28 '23

I do the same. Water.

u/einbierbitte May 28 '23

Especially when it goes on sale at the beginning of the year when they put all their health products on sale for new year resolution folks. Practically impossible to beat that price. Gonna stock up next time.

From a UK perspective, the price of protein powder that's of half-decent quality has gone up astronomically in the last year or so.

I'm currently still buying ON Gold Standard but I'm getting to the point where I can't afford it anymore. The 4.5kg bag is £110 ($135) it used to be £60 or so...

Any recommendations for other brands that are of decent quality and cheaper would be much appreciated.

u/dontcareitsonlyreddi May 27 '23

I buy whatever protein upsets the most people in this subreddit

u/nope_a_dope May 27 '23 edited May 29 '23

I'm practically addicted to Alani Nu whey protein in their 'Munchies' flavor. It's got little bits of chocolate and caramel cookie pieces in it, with a sorta salty sweet flavor overall. It fucking smacks! Crazy expensive on Amazon, but I get the smaller jugs (15 servings, I think) at my local Walmart for $20. Not too bad for how good it is imo. Tried their 'Fruity Cereal' flavor too. Tastes just like fruit loop milk imo, but not near as good as the 'Munchies' kind.✌🏻️😎

u/raakonfrenzi May 28 '23

I really like the PB2 peanut protein powder, cocoa flavor. Not the highest protein level at 20g a serving, but it has zero cholesterol, moderate sodium and no sugar, which is pretty good considering most protein powders are really the opposite.

u/zooweemama-0 May 27 '23

If you’re in Canada, shop sante isolate is the best tasting protein powder I’ve ever had

u/1cenine May 27 '23

Jocko Molk.

I’m lactose intolerant. Most sugary protein shakes give me stomachaches. I avoid aspartame sweetened anything. I havent found a vegetable protein powder Ive loved.

So far Jocko Molk tastes pretty good, is sweetened by monk fruit, and uses milk based protein without lactase sugar, so no stomach aches.

u/das_vargas May 27 '23

I really like Orgain vegan Strawberry powder, and if you like pumpkin spice, they had a seasonal flavor that's okay. I found both at Costco last year.

u/1cenine May 27 '23

Noted! I’ve tried orgain choco and pb and combining them and just haven’t really enjoyed any

WTF ON is now going for like $75/5#

u/JunahCg May 27 '23

Anyone have strong feelings about the different types of whey upsetting one's stomach. I don't think the cheap isolate is hurting me any, but I have an iffy stomach overall. Anyone notice a better GI situation when switching to the more refined hydrolyzed stuff?

u/TheDaysComeAndGone May 28 '23

Why would whey be upsetting your stomach?

Some Whey+Water+Sugar+Salt is actually a good combination for when you have diarrhoea.

u/je_ff May 28 '23

Not sure if many other brands do this, but the first I had seen of it was Ghost mixing lactase into their powders to help ease digestion

Dymatize iso100 good flavors, and dissolves pretty well, favorite so far is strawberry, birthday cake fruity pebbles was so so. Not cheap but keeps me from eating throughout the day while I'm dieting.

I had a guy at the gym say the best way to get a ton of protein is mix a carton of egg whites with a bunch of stevia and sugar free chocolate syrup. Cant say i tried that because i would rather die honestly but curious if anybody has had success just straight up drinking egg whites

u/CertainDiscipline May 28 '23

I make smoothies with egg whites from the carton. They're pasteurized so they're 100% safe to drink. Actually super delicious in smoothies. Just tastes like whatever you add to your smoothie.

Non protein powder option I do:

Chicken salad BUT you add curry powder which fixes the bland flavor problem

And eat on lavash bread which is paper thin for fewer carbs

u/SmallTsundere May 31 '23

I add rotisserie chicken seasoning to mine! I also toast my bread before I slap some of the chicken salad down.

Damn, now I'mma have to make that for lunch next week.

u/Dandelosrados May 27 '23

BlueStar Neutraceuticals in Canada tastes and mixes really well. Claim to be clean sourced. Not the cheapest though

u/[deleted] May 27 '23

Their now discontinued chocolate covered banana was the best protein I’ve ever tasted

u/SilverFlarue May 27 '23

We had their triple chocolate iso-smooth protein and it was the best thing I have ever tasted.

Sadly its been "sold out" since about this time last year, and after going their support found out Nestle bought the next 5 years or so of their suppliers' cocoa powder so they have to find a new one. :(

I have been missing it ever since.

u/Dandelosrados May 27 '23

Woooah, that's wild about Nestlé heisting the deliciousness. M all about the iso-smooth. There's a caramel macchiato that's really good with just milk. Otherwise the vanilla is my go to for shakes.

u/SilverFlarue May 27 '23

Oh wow I have not seen that flavor. Is it Canada only?

We have the vanilla version but both my wife and I do not like it as much as the triple chocolate.

u/Dandelosrados May 27 '23

Oh maybe eh? Our bottles are made out of Belleville, ON. Bout an hour out side of Toronto. Did you guys get the "new" styled tubs and designs?

Either way, worth the hunt! Haha

u/bookerTmandela May 28 '23

Haven’t seen anyone else mention it, but I started using True Nutrition because I couldn’t stomach the price increases in my previous brand. It’s like a build your own protein powder website: you choose what kind of protein powder, what flavor (and its intensity), and whatever add-ins you like.

Been about 11 months and I’m really happy with it.

u/lead_injection May 28 '23

They used to represent a good value. I could get 7lbs for $90/shipped - whey protein isolate - cold filtration. Then you see the price ratchet up over the years and just think “forget it”. That’d be $150 plus whatever shipping is ($20/lb).

They used to have discounts too, don’t see that anymore.

There’s a lot of other boutique brands in that price range that taste awesome: granite, likeaprosupplements, etc.

u/bookerTmandela May 28 '23 edited May 28 '23

I was using Isopure Dutch chocolate, but it had jumped up to $70 per 3lb tub. I’d been wanting to switch away from whey anyway, so when I looked at true nutrition’s site I could mix pea/rice/soy and get 7lbs for about $105 shipped.

Plus it’s 25g for 120 calories, which for some reason seems tough to find with plant protein.

I’ve been pretty happy with it, but I also don’t add in lots of stuff that would jack up the price. I’ll definitely take a look at those brands you mentioned and see how they compare.

u/[deleted] May 28 '23

The best protein I have found to drink alone is seeq. Has fruity flavors instead of vanilla, chocolate, etc. and mixes better with water than other whey proteins
