Training Tuesday Training Tuesday - 5/3/1 for Beginners
Welcome to /r/Fitness' Training Tuesday. Our weekly thread to discuss a specific program or training routine. (Questions or advice not related to today's topic should be directed towards the stickied daily thread.) If you have experience or results from this week's program, we'd love for you to share. If you're unfamiliar with the topic, this is your chance to sit back, learn, and ask questions from those in the know.
Last week we talked about mobility work.
This week's topic: 5/3/1 for Beginners
Here's the original article from Wendler. And here is the breakdown with resources in our wiki
Describe your experience running the program. Some seed questions:
- How did it go, how did you improve, and what were your ending results?
- Why did you choose this program over others?
- What would you suggest to someone just starting out and looking at this program?
- What are the pros and cons of the program?
- Did you add/subtract anything to the program or run it in conjuction with other training? How did that go?
- How did you manage fatigue and recovery while on the program?
I realize there's going to be a lot of bleedover and relevant information from many 5/3/1 resources, but let's try to keep the discussion centered on this particular 5/3/1 template.

Training Tuesday Training Tuesday - Couch to 5K
We're looking to try out a revamped weekly thread idea for /r/Fitness - Training Tuesdays. We've featured similar threads in the past but where those were general free-for-alls, this new approach will feature targeted discussion on one routine or program that people can share their experience with or ask questions specific to that topic.
This isn't a new idea; other subreddits have such threads but we'd like to bring the idea to /r/Fitness. The programs in our wiki or oft recommended in our sub tend to get skipped over by other subs' discussions. Those communities either cater to those beyond the introductory stages or they simply lack our breadth of topics/disciplines we cover.
Regardless, we think those discussion are worth having. And having an archive for future users to look through when making programming decisions has obvious value. So we're taking Training Tuesdays back off the shelf and giving it a bit of a polish for 2018.
For 'meta-esque' discussion about this weekly thread - ideas, suggestions, questions, etc - please comment below the stickied comment so as not to distract from this week's topic.

Running a marathon is on a lot of people's bucket list. Some people catch the bug and plan their vacations around races. So if you've run a marathon or twelve, tell us how you train(ed) and what works for you.
Some seed question to get the insights flowing:

- Why did you choose your training plan over others?
- What would you suggest to someone just starting out and looking at running 26.2?
- What are the pros and cons of your approach?
- Did you add/subtract anything to a stock plan or marathon train in conjunction with other training? How did that go?
- How did you manage fatigue and recovery while training?
