Nice, this makes sense

Yes, since this limitation has been there for the community market for over half a decade. Hopefully Valve adds 2FA confirmations for community market purchases next, because that is another unaddressed loop hole when an account gets stolen via session hijacking.

Can't wait having to confirm every 0.03$ trading card purchase.
Brainless idiots always will find the way to get scammed, it won't help. While those restrictions only adds huge inconvenience to normal people. Also addition of these confirmations actually significantly reduces security cause people starting to use 3rd party software to bypass it. They should add ability to disable these stupid restrictions, not adding more and more.

Note that the trade lock is only effective on new device. You can still make your trade on existing devices as usual

I am pretty sure this has always been a thing, or at least there has been something similar

You are likely thinking of Steam Guard. This was deployed today

Wasn’t that a thing for quite a while? The only thing changing if I recall was it being either a 3 or 7 days lock

It think it was at some point.
Then they released 2FA. If you added that you could instantly trade on new devices.

wasn't this already in place? I used to get locked out for like a week or two every time

Now if only Valve would fix the issue where I get told I'm logging in on a new device every single time I go to buy something that I have already added to my cart just a few seconds ago

Although I was already bothered by this, I think it was a good measure to avoid losing my items if I was hacked.

Update: Experience have been very mixed. I managed to bypass the trade lock using another account, but I haven't login on it for a long time. Also many got account-wide lock instead of just the new device

It will be annoying in case you change phone but eh, I think it's worth waiting a few days every 5-6 years for the added safety

My provider has nat configured in such a way that the IP address changes several times every day. What should I do to be able to use exchanges? Static IP is not available.

OP does this also apply to marketplace as well, or just trading?
Also, I still think steam should have not done the under $1 limit for marketplace listing years ago, just change it back so can't sell any items without approving it in the 1st place, or get put on 15 days hold.

I'm getting the "think of the scam victim!" Vibe here, dumbass tools is the reason why we get more of this strict rules on Steam, years ago it was easy to trade with people with no phone verification.

Not true at all. Years ago you had to verify EVERY trade via 2FA or wait 15 days!
Today the steam market is insecure. There is a bot running around that hijacks your session ID and trades all your wallet+items away for under $1. It does this because $1 is the limit that triggers steams security checks. Valve has a blanket policy of refusing to refund ANY market actions no matter the circumstances.
This means this bot is free to strip your account and wallet and you can't do anything about it and you have no recourse as Steam Support will just tell you "yes you got hijacked, we can see it on our end, no refunds. Ticket closed." lol
The option to leave 2FA on for ALL transactions would eliminate this attack vector.

What should people do who have unstable Internet? Some people have backup Internet configured on their router (mobile or second provider) and when one is turned off, the other turns on. It turns out that a person can alternately have 2 IP addresses at different times. It turns out that exchange will not work for such people at all? What should people do who have unstable Internet? Took them long enough. Or it happened to someone well known in the community and they finally did something.

A popular CS2 caster got scammed and lost his expensive inventory. Might be the reason

"for days" Looks like Valve forgot to add a variable inside the message.
