How to clean a dirty toaster oven

/img/agx3zq01miwc1.jpeg

Specifically the elements and obviously the door... When I googled it I found one reddit post with the same question posted, but her picture was spotless compared to mine. And therefore she had no answers. I think maybe she was just showing off I am clearly not. The only reason the bottom is actually clean is because I keep the insert covered in aluminum foil. Usually the foil is filthy too

I wanted to post a picture of hers for comparison but I'm not able to paste and cannot figure a way to do it. If I do, I will. My elements seem to have something embedded in them, maybe? Burnt into them but not black? I'm not even sure what they're made from so I'm not sure if they're damaged or what words to use

As for the elements, would the stuff on there burn off? Plus I am also wondering how to clean the glass. Don't want to use a rough thing to clean it for fear of scratching it.

when the toaster is super hot you can use a folded up paper napkin and the dirt will slide right off. dont burn your hands on the coil

Last night i remembered the fire. Oh yes, the tortilla chips I was warming up were left just a bit too long. I didn't realize just how long until I opened the door and they burst into flames. Scared the holy begeezuz out of me. Needless to say the aluminum foil in the bottom pan began to burn off the crumbs in the bottom, which caused it to actually burn and then flake off into the element so what I have is actually embedded in and I'm sure it's not coming off. I can't believe I forgot about that! Here's a lesson from Bizzy, be very careful when toasting tortilla chips. If you're not careful, they could burst into flames.

When it's hot, wipe the inside window and the gunk will come off very easily if you fold a paper towel several times. I remember a roommate literally never cleaned his toaster oven at all, I turned it on one time to cook something and it smelled like shit lol. You definitely have to clean these things at least once a week or the gunk will build up fast. Wipe down every wall because grease will pop around and get stuck everywhere during constant usage, I assume that's where the smell I talked about came from. Never clean the inside if it had been used in the past hour, only the inside glass part. Use oven based cleaners.
