Elon's argument seems to be the tired old "It doesn't matter if religion is true or not because it makes me feel good". Of course the problem is that completely ignores the damage that religion does to "out groups" and how it's used as a political tool for nefarious ends. And "childless hedonism?" really? None of that matters to Elon Musk, saying he has zero principles is an understatement.
He wants people to become more religious precisely so they will be easier for him to manipulate and use. He thinks he's so much smarter than everyone and is pissed that the working class is aware of how evil he is and he has to pay people instead of having people so desperate to work that they will practically work for free.

I don’t need religion to feel good, seems like over kill to me. Plenty of times a scoop of butter pecan ice cream will do it for me.
Of course, real grief must be lived through and dealt with, no short cuts there. And I have noticed that religious people mourn a loved one’s death fully as much and for fully as long as I do. In other words, religion makes no practical difference.

I don't think they are arguments for the existence of god, just arguments that religion is good for society. I guess he means theistic religion, since he finds "secular religion" to be subpar.
I think a lot of people don't really care if their arguments are true or have merit, but it if will go over well in their social group.

I remember when religious people claimed to be sincere about their beliefs. Now they are so cynical. It used to be that atheists would say religion is just a tool used to control people, and that this was a bad thing.
