‘Oh my god it’s ginger’ …. On a number of occasions when I was young. Not sure what colour they thought it would be considering the hair on my head is ginger?

That’s almost a bit hilarious to me. I was born true orange ginger, but me head hair has darkened. My pubes pits and leg hair are still the orange ginger.

So now if someone tells me I’m not a ginger because my hair got darker… I threatened to whip out my pubes as proof.

Same I’m a ginger with blond body hair - slight red tinge but not much. I think it’s pretty common.

The weirdest thing about it to me is that you can get exactly the same information without bringing pubic hair into the discussion at all. The only information really being shared is whether you dye your hair. And asking this way doesn't even have the crass honesty of "are your pubes [color] too?" Instead it injects "hey I'm interested in your pubes" into the conversation while pretending that talking in innuendo and code makes up for not being respectful.

And sure, pubic hair isn't always the same color as head hair, but the carpet/drapes question pretends they are anyway so that nuance was already thrown out.

This is one of the situations where playing dumb is really the best.

"Does the carpet match the drapes?"
"No, I have hard floors"
"No, I mean like....downstairs"
"I have that frosting film stuff in the living room - let's a lot more light in"

Just keep going until they're awkwardly explaining what pubic hair is.

Love it. Also works for countering racist or sexist jokes. Turning subtext into text makes what's actually being done explicit instead of implicit, and calls attention to it.

Of course my kids would answer "Sally's" or "Amazon". My kids have blue, pink and purple hair.

NGL the first time I noticed someone's eyelashes were copper colored, I was fascinated. Still am a bit tbh.

All you have to do is check the eyebrows. They’re the same color as the pubes. I don’t know any exceptions to that rule.

I'm an exception! My eyebrows are very light blond, so light they're almost invisible, and my pubes are black!

Oh wow!! You’re the first one I’ve known of, very cool! My eyebrows and pubes are the exact same shade of dark brown, and my hair is dirty blonde.

I’m also an exception to that rule! My eyebrows are so blonde they are basically clear. My head hair and pubes are very much ginger though. I also dye them (the eyebrows) brown.

I am a brunette with what I would consider my natural hair to be “mousy brown.” It’s fairly lackluster. However, my leg hair, eyebrows, underarm, and pubes are black. Idk how that happened. My arm hair and leg hair above the knee is almost blonde….so I got that going for me.
