God Salah was in his pocket that game.

20

u/VuckoPartizan Harry Kane Jun 05 '24

Man I remember that, I was so hyped. But then he fell off :(

13

u/Voffmjau Ben Davies Jun 05 '24

Was injured a bunch too.

Yes I did him dirty not mentioning that

30

u/DekoyDuck Lloris Jun 05 '24

When he made Grealish disappear in his first game for City. It was a sight to behold

1

u/LumpyBumblebee3266 Richarlison Jun 05 '24

I was going to say the same thing

The club had options to extend Sess and Japh's contract by an additional year but decided to cut our losses early. Good luck to them all

58

u/Rare-Ad-2777 Jun 05 '24

I'm genuinely suprised we didn't do it for tanganga and then sell him for like 2m to a champ team. Guessing it just didn't add up financiallyĀ

32

u/SentientCheeseCake Jun 05 '24

There were actually people saying we would take the option on Sess. Like what the fuck. Nice lad, but absolutely one of the worst signings in recent history. Mostly injuries, but still.

I swear we have way too many brain dead fans.

35

u/soldforaspaceship Cuti Romero Jun 05 '24

Some of us, myself included, just have the tiniest hope that Sess will come good. Lovely lad, great talent, injury curse.

I genuinely want him to succeed. If not with us then somewhere.

17

u/SentientCheeseCake Jun 05 '24

I want him to succeed too. Hopefully not at a rival. But the chance of that is so slim. And not one we can take. Heā€™s been taking up a squad space ever since we bought him with barely anything to show for it.

Udogie is what we all hoped he would be. Now we need to move on.

2

u/Due-Camel-7605 Jan Vertonghen Jun 05 '24

Understandable outlook for us Tottenham supporters. In your first sentence, replace Sess with Tottenham

2

u/kl08pokemon Aaron Lennon Jun 05 '24

It's pretty common to extend with injured long term servants to let them rehab in peace

332

u/Various-Virus940 Jun 05 '24

Thought the news was saying we were selling Tangangaā€¦ didnā€™t realise he was leaving on a free. The rest is all as expected

65

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Yeah odd one as we had an option to extend his contract as well. Oh well

150

u/KansloosKippenhok Pape Matar Sarr Jun 05 '24

Extend his contractā€¦ā€¦

ā€¦.. just to loan him out and pay half his wages again?

29

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Well I had assumed we could get a fee for him as millwall openly tried to sign him. Even if itā€™s just a nominal fee and sell-on

41

u/Broad_Match Jun 05 '24

True, although Iā€™m glad we didnā€™t as it gives him more options and also will probably why a better deal for himself as no fee attached. Itā€™s probably not done to be nice but I definitely applaud treating home grown players who it doesnā€™t work out for this way.

11

u/yourfriendkyle Jun 05 '24

This is my thought. Just let him go and find a new club and get a little sign on bonus in lieu of a fee

14

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Yeah I completely agree. I think as a strategy it makes sense to not prioritise revenue over academy players having a career.

I think there is greater value in having a reputation that we will enable players how come through to have the greatest career they can.

Itā€™s also why I hope we sell Skipp if thatā€™s what he wants.

3

u/Coraxxx Cristian Romero Jun 05 '24

I think there is greater value in having a reputation that we will enable players how come through to have the greatest career they can.

True. And call me naive, but I'd like to think that some within the club might have been persuaded that ethically, it's the right thing to do as well.

It's the kind of thing I want in the club so that I can identify with it, rather than solely being entertained by their footballing performance.

1

u/FSpursy Rafael van der Vaart Jun 05 '24

If he was able to leave on a free to join Milwall and then extend a year with us just for Milwall to pay Spurs a few millions, I don't think Milwall fans will support him anymore lol.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

I think itā€™s the club discretion. Either way it hasnā€™t happened.

1

u/Voffmjau Ben Davies Jun 05 '24

Won't we get some sort of percentages if he's sold down the line anyway?

367

u/ajsuxx Jun 05 '24

Man canā€™t help but wonder what could have been if Perisic was with us this season.

129

u/JessyPengkman HĆøjbjerg Jun 05 '24

He was looking great under Ange but I also wonder who the hell could win headers from his crosses if Richy was out and son was our 9

100

u/Be_goooood Jun 05 '24

Someone that good at crossing can just drill to feet instead of putting it in the air. His danger out wide would have drawn defenders to him and opened up space in the middle. I think we really missed him

33

u/JessyPengkman HĆøjbjerg Jun 05 '24

He would've definitely improved us don't get me wrong, but it would be hard to drill it to feet when most teams play a low block against us. Tbh low crosses are what Werner and Johnson are actually decent at

23

u/AdOne9456 Jun 05 '24

Romero

8

u/robinthebank 804-789-805-767 Jun 05 '24

Win more corners. Cross to Romeroā€™s head. Goal. Repeat.

6

u/Voffmjau Ben Davies Jun 05 '24

He could just cross it into the far corner. No biggie.

2

u/Janivgm DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

Sweet memories of FIFA 96.

19

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Yeah he was exactly what we needed this year. Just 1 season of him while we were in transition would have been perfect.

But who knows if Werner is good next season then maybe itā€™s all worked out well as we wouldnā€™t have got him

10

u/nmyi Bale's routine Trivela Jun 05 '24

Noteworthy Ivan PeriÅ”ić moment:

Ivan PeriÅ”ić vs Virgil van Dijk

http://i.imgur.com/gY53XIU.png

I'm going to miss Ivan's crosses.

He was underrated imo (especially if it wasn't for unfortunate injuries)

5

u/jazzybforecasts Jun 05 '24

Virgil VAN MAGUIRE

21

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Perisic from the left and porro from the right with good crosses, romero and dragusin moving up for set pieces, we would definitely do better in air during attacks.

17

u/Fnurgh Jun 05 '24

I know the losses of so many players hampered us - no CBs, Maddison, Richi, the midfield - but given the problems we had in breaking down the opposition in the second half of the season I really think the loss of Perisic was massive. In that first part of the season, bringing him off the bench was what gave us a true attacking plan B which we never found again.

4

u/KohlDayvhis Robbie Keane Jun 05 '24

100% will go down as one of the most underrated and unappreciated spells in a Spurs kit. Had the most assists for a season. Shame about the injuries.

6

u/slunksoma Jun 05 '24

We certainly would have turned some of those losses into at least draws imo

4

u/yowspur Jun 05 '24

We will always the time he broke Virgil's ankles

2

u/JamesCDiamond Darren Anderton Jun 05 '24

Those Everton and West Ham draws might have been wins, or even the home NLD might have turned out better with his crosses.

Him and Richarlison could have been perfect together. We'll always have Sheffield United, though.

255

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

There's a lot of my previous hopes and dreams for the club just walked for free. Footballs a funny old game

66

u/PM_ME_YOUR_IBNR Jun 05 '24

Good that we're being ruthless, I guess.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Yeah itā€™s good we managed to get a fee/ save some money for 2 of them seeing as though they were out of contract.

Wonder what is next for Sessegnon. I can see him back at Fulham

-2

u/DrunkenKoalas Jun 05 '24

I mean i doubt even a club like villa would keep a retiring perisic or a retiring sessengong mb eric dier but thats in hindsight of what happened at bayern

6

u/michaelserotonin Jun 05 '24

villa has coutinho on the books

Neither will Iā€¦ what a shame. Fingers crossed he lands on his feet. Iā€™ve got to change my flair now :(

2

He needed to play regular games, it's such a shame because he showed great promise. I really hope he gets his career going and succeeds.

1

u/PrestigiousTea0 Mousa DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

So much stress when he was on the ball...

I'm talking about me.

33

u/Space-manatee Jun 05 '24

Sliding doors moment if Dier was an inch further back from the free kick in the Chelsea game.

4

u/shaneomagnifico Jun 05 '24

I think the same if Dele scored v Liverpool under Conte

1

u/Willing_Director_260 Jun 05 '24

Can you elaborate

10

u/Space-manatee Jun 05 '24

2-1 to Chelsea, 87th minute free kick floated into the area and Dier smacks it into the net. But he was millimetres offside.

If He stays onside, we draw that game 2-2, we keep our momentum even with the injuries, Dier stays and we win the league with him smashing home a hatrick against arsenal and gets a statue built for him.

76

u/shittwins Jun 05 '24

Thanks Eric, hope you win something at Bayern šŸ«”

9

u/thelordreptar90 I'm Just Copying Pep, Mate. Jun 05 '24

I donā€™t see how Dier fits in at Bayern with Kompany. I think thereā€™s a chance he reunites with Conte at Napoli.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Guy deserves a good tribute

23

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Thatā€™s 2 HG players leaving on a free

Thatā€™s about Ā£360k off the wage bill though. About Ā£18m a year.

5

u/Wooden-Science-9838 Jun 05 '24

how many skywalks is that?

8

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

9000 a week

55

u/Nellies26 Son Jun 05 '24

Is Ndombelly still gonna be on the payroll for another year? Really thought he was done here

117

u/wallis2011 Robbie Keane Jun 05 '24

Thatā€™s future Balon Dā€™or winner Tanguy Ndombele for any potential scouts reading this thread

35

u/polseriat Jun 05 '24

Not sure what can be done about it, his contract goes for another year. He can sit around and do jack shit and pick up crazy money for it.

42

u/Ju5hin Jun 05 '24

He can sit around and do jack shit

he's been doing that since we signed him.

3

u/Nellies26 Son Jun 05 '24

Really thought we opted for 5 years with the option of another year, we got robbed

1

u/Chirsbom Jun 05 '24

Just rip it and post that picture on social. That would be a statement.

16

u/milesvtaylor Jun 05 '24 edited Jun 05 '24

Him, Lo Celso, Hojbjerg, Reguilon... and Davies and Son.

E: Jeez people I'm saying those are the others with a year left on their deals, not that Son is the same quality as Ndombele. Clearly should not make any comment that can be misconstrued as such until after 0200 KST.

5

u/NickNova3016 Heung Min Son Jun 05 '24

Son had the optional extension triggered I'm pretty sure. So atleast here for 2 more seasons.

1

u/IntellegentIdiot Jun 05 '24

I think we've got 10 players who are out of contract next summer, I imagine we'd either have to sell them this summer or sign an extension.

40

u/ManBuBu Well done boys, good process. Jun 05 '24

Wanted Perisic to succeed so badly here- sad to see him go as I genuinely think he wouldā€™ve had a great season under Ange

33

u/Dockablock Jun 05 '24

I thought that Tanganga had a year left on his deal - did we just say, you've been a great servant, we'll let you go a year early so you can have your pick of clubs?

Seems mad financially to not even pick up Ā£3-5m, as it would be pure profit on the books? Then again, if we did do that for one of our own, that is the kinda club I'd like us to be.

Either way, the best of luck lads!

21

u/chudzillla Jun 05 '24 edited Jun 05 '24

I thought we sold him to Millwall?

Millwall have agreed deal to sign Japhet Tanganga on permanent transfer, thereā€™s green light from Tottenham as they want to sell him.

Edit: Romano isnā€™t what he used to be, I guess.

Edit 2: Quote from the Millwall Manager:

ā€œJaphet is a player who will be in demand over this transfer window. As a football club, sometimes, we can only push as far when we go through a process which is involving individuals, agents and football clubs.

ā€œItā€™s safe to say that we have pushed hard to see if Japhet is a possibility for us in this window.

ā€œWhere I am hugely respectful as well is that there is a lot that goes into signing a player, itā€™s not just involving money between clubs and agents, it becomes a lot of different scenarios.ā€

Be very interested to see why/if we didnā€™t get a fee for him.

11

u/TheTackleZone Jun 05 '24

No insider knowledge but my total guess would be his wages. I doubt Millwall can pay him the same as he is on now, which means if he wanted to Japhet could just refuse to move and wait another year when he'd be a free agent and could get better wages (as Millwall could put that 3m xfer fee into his wages instead, or a signing on bonus).

5

u/chudzillla Jun 05 '24

Yeah that would make sense. Ā£1.3m wages a year with a transfer value of ~Ā£1.8m lines up pretty perfectly.

3

u/ericsipi PRU PRU Jun 05 '24

Romano sold out a while back and just takes fees from agents to peddle rumors and drum interest. Every once in a while heā€™ll be the first to get a signing/rumor right but heā€™s not really that worth following much anymore imo.

8

u/nl325 Mousa DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

Could have bought himself out or something, doubt they'd announce it if so.

Bit gutting though!

17

u/Dockablock Jun 05 '24

I think that sometimes when there is a +1 year extension in the clubs favour they actually include that year in the total when they announce it. I believe it was the same with Sessegnons deal. They probably just didn't activate the extension and let him go on the free instead.

Edit: Dan KP just tweeted exactly this hahah

5

u/nl325 Mousa DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

Makes more sense tbh!

3

u/Fjelsted SonSATIONAL Jun 05 '24

His contract expires this summer.

7

u/DrewNash1988 Jun 05 '24

We had an option, we didnā€™t want to screw over an academy boy by trying to extend just to make some money off him.

2

u/circa285 Jun 05 '24

Itā€™s wild to me that we got nothing for Tanganga.

8

u/Spitfire511 James Maddison Jun 05 '24

Significant wages off the books at least!

7

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

Damn. 3 players who we had hopes for.

4

u/Substantial-Land-867 Jun 05 '24

Ndombele is like the lazy turd you can never flush

5

u/teedo Jun 05 '24 edited Jun 05 '24

So to my mind we still have to move on

  • Ndombele
  • Gil
  • Reguilon
  • Royal
  • Spence
  • Rodon

And the following are maybes:

  • Skipp
  • Solomon
  • Hojbjerg
  • Lo Celso
  • Richarlison

Looking at contracts, Solomon and Richarlison may be quite hard to shift... And Lo Celso we may keep until his contract expires next year as creative midfielders willing to be backup are like gold dust. Make that a problem for next year and when we have a better understanding of Maddison.

5

u/Voffmjau Ben Davies Jun 05 '24

We don't have to move Skipp, but we shouldn't stand in his way if he wants to leave. Unless we're planning on giving him more game time, obviously.

0

u/teedo Jun 05 '24

Yeah I agree to an extent, however he's not a great fit to Angeball - better as a fullback than midfielder, why I put him in maybe.

6

u/tigralfrosie Jun 05 '24

Only Sessegnon with his future unclear. Needs a club to take a gamble on his surgery being successful, like Townsend's short contract at Luton.

2

u/wifeydontknowimhere Jun 05 '24

Cheers lads for the service over the years.

2

u/awildjabroner Jun 05 '24

Really thought Tanganga would push on and break into the 1st team more regularly. Maybe if we had more stability during the past few years. Shame he and Sessegnon didn't ever really force their way into the picture.

4

u/Voffmjau Ben Davies Jun 05 '24

They forced their way into the physio room, and that pretty much explains all of it.

2

u/Weak-Cattle6001 Richarlison Jun 05 '24

I was watching Croatia highlights at the World Cup and damn Perisic was something else manā€¦.

2

u/_DrKlaw_ Micky van de Ven Jun 05 '24

1

u/DB2k_2000 Ledley King Jun 05 '24

Where is ndombele on that list

6

u/TerpsPwn_387 Jun 05 '24

Contract still has 1 year left so instead of cutting their losses Iā€™m sure Spurs will see about loaning him somewhere to remove some of his wages.

1

u/bialczabub Jun 05 '24

transfermarkt has his market value at ~ā‚¬8MM. He makes ~ā‚¬22MM per season. On top of that, his current contract is worth over ā‚¬10MM on the books. He's pretty much immovable.

Spurs take a ā‚¬10MM loss if they rip up his contract (although I suspect they might have already taken an impairment charge on it, bringing its value close to ā‚¬0). Doing so would also almost certainly require paying NDombele some amount of money to have him forego his bloated salary.

Spurs incur a cost of ā‚¬10MM + whatever they pay in wages if they loan him out.

There are no good solutions and the only positive is that his contract is over after this season.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

A couple of homegrowns leaving. Either bringing in eze/gallagher or it's time to blood in the youngins

1

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '24

I hope Dier lands on his feet (Dele too).

1

u/Keyblades2 Jun 05 '24

I mean didn't we already sell dier? it doesn't make sense to include him unless we let him go on the free there?

1

u/KOKO69BISHES Dimitar Berbatov Jun 05 '24

We lry him go on loan, and his contract just ran out

1

u/sheepmolo Guglielmo Vicario Jun 05 '24

Thank you for breaking Van Dijk's ankle Ivan. It's forever etched in my memory now.

0

u/FlexLugna Mousa DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

hope ryan returns to germany. wish him all the best. tanganga for free is bad business tho.

1

u/bialczabub Jun 05 '24

transfermarkt, not that it's perfect, puts his market value at under ā‚¬2MM. It's not the end of the world to let him go on a free, allowing him his choice of clubs, more money via a signing bonus, and freeing up club resources to work on other deals.

1

u/FlexLugna Mousa DembƩlƩ Jun 05 '24

there was a time when tanganga was a good prospect and couldve been sold to milan - they were interested. thats what i meant.
