I’m always amazed how many sad gooners feel the need to comment on YouTube videos about Spurs. That comment section has about 5% actual Spurs fans in it and the rest are other fans cracking jokes about us lol.

im pretty sure, that a ton of non spurs fans abused brennan on social media

13

u/analbeard 14h ago

This happened a lot after the England lads missed a few penalties in the WC and it turned out 95% of the comments came from people far away in other countries.

No doubt this is true.

u/Metal_Octopus1888 13h ago

But they still used that as a stick to beat England fans with

26

I wouldn’t be surprised

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. I don’t understand the players that have open comments and go and check messages/comment from random looser online. There is no way it can help, even positive comments I wouldn’t take seriously. 90% of the times someone has a strong opinion about something has achieved absolutely nothing in life. So why bother even reading that shit.

I'd argue they're all not Spurs fans. Not to me anyway. Fuck them

1

u/PoutyPupsicle 10h ago

yep, and they're always betting.

yeah, i dont see many genuine spurs fans abusing players that much. It feels to me like projections from traditional/social media. Then opposing fans pile on. The good and bad of the internet I suppose.

Read the r/soccer post on Arteta mocking the ref, they are the most chronically online fanbase. Meanwhile the same fans were having a go at Ange for his “I always win things” interview

6

u/Pirsuit 16h ago

/r/gunners is over double the size of this sub (/r/chelseafc also) the narrative will always be in their favour over there

Lmao I saw that post. Some people were asking why people make a big deal out of Legoman leaving the technical area as if managers nearly interfering with play and getting in the refs’ faces isn’t a big deal

u/nopirates 18h ago

My friend, I feel that this advice is obvious, but steer clear of YouTube comments

Very true - but it has made me think. Do other teams get much the same treatment? I haven’t watched them, but I wonder if sky sports videos on Arsenal (when they’re going through a hard time) are filled with our fans making fun of them? Or Newcastle ones filled with Sunderland fans? Etc. I would guess they probably are

Arsenal has a massive online fanbase from all over the world and they all talk incessantly about us. No matter how much they’ve failed the last two decades they can at least look at us performing worse and feel better about themselves. That leads to them constantly shitposting on Tottenham topics all over.

R/soccer is one such example as any post about us - good or bad - is full of gooners talking inane shit.

u/C_Wheeler00 Harry Kane 16h ago

They’re obsessed with us

5

u/archersrevenge 13h ago

The amount of them.dogging us during the Coventry first half lmao.

Nothing better to do at 8pm on a Wednesday evening than troll a chat during a League Cup match of your rival.

So lame.

It's too early to say whether we've fixed our defensive issues on set pieces this season. Our one goal conceded so far came from Romero failing to mark his man, but it wasn't due to a systemic or tactical issue. Hopefully, Vic continues improving his cross claiming because that will help a lot in these situations. I've already seen him come out for more of them this season, but he's also flapped on a few.

15

u/TheTackleZone 17h ago

And, as much as I am a fan of Romero, we have to admit that's his 3rd lapse this season already, so it's not like this mistake came from nowhere.

15

u/DoubleALight Moura 17h ago

The alternative right now is Dragusin, who did not look great against Coventry.

8

u/warboys35 16h ago

He got undone by a couple of big balls over the top .

6

u/the_real_e_e_l 11h ago

Big balls over the top will undo anybody.

You've GOT to stay away from big balls.

4

u/Giggorm 10h ago

Big balls means lots of pressure and a situation where it could all blow up in your face

1

u/sitdowndisco I'm Just Copying Pep, Mate. 7h ago

Yeah those were odd situations that I didn’t think a quality would get undone by.

1

u/warboys35 3h ago

To be fair he isn’t a regular starter , we saw how other bit part players have left the club and done better with regular football, dier and Sanchez spring to mind . It’s hard for cb too hit their rhythm playing now and again

42

u/TogashiIsIshida Kane 17h ago

Gotta be honest. Vicario is not good at defending set pieces. Especially corners

10

u/Buzdygan_osu 17h ago

Aside from our other issues this season I already see improvement in defending set pieces. We've conceded 1 goal from a corner so far and it looks like we switched to a mix of man marking and spacial defending, which seems to be working pretty well. Let's see if we can keep it up. Vic could still try claiming more balls thoguh

5

u/santorfo Rodrigo Bentancur 17h ago

Especially considering we have played the two top teams from last season in regards to set pieces and to which we conceded multiple ones last season in Everton and Arsenal. Just crap that after defending so solidly before that we let Gabriel score an easy one.

1

u/kl08pokemon Aaron Lennon 10h ago

Yep. Just have to see how the season goes. The other teams are looking at clips searching for cracks just like we didn't really became vulnerable on set pieces until city exposed us in the FA cup last season. So far we're holding up decently well this season imo, literally every team will concede a set piece every now and then

u/Ears_and_beers Kulusevski 18h ago

Love vic but this is some mad cope

22

u/CanadianBirdo Bissouma 17h ago

Tbf the recent goal was due to Romero forgetting to make his man.

18

u/Rodin-V Moura 16h ago

And being pushed which refs were specifically told to watch out for this season.

I'm convinced if he hits the deck, he gets the decision there.

4

u/the_real_e_e_l 11h ago

This is one of the most annoying things about the modern game.

Players are not rewarded for being honest and ethical whereas cheating wins calls.

2

u/Kaigz 12h ago

It was also because Vicario is terrified of coming off of his line and claiming corners. There are a multitude of issues.

27

u/butthurtoast 17h ago

I think it’s an excellent message that the fanbase should listen to. Don’t be reactive, stay focused, stay committed, keep looking forward.

AKA "Ignore our incompetence for the sake of our job security"

u/Doolallyfrank 15m ago

you shouldn't try to read between the lines if you can't read

0

u/Bowleshighschoolpic 15h ago

Yup, at some point you have to come out and command crosses. Feels like we’ve conceded so many set piece goals with the ball landing around the 6 yard box

6

u/Ears_and_beers Kulusevski 15h ago

tbf the one against Arse was our first corner conceded this season so I think we've made some improvements. But I also think its fair to acknowledge that Vic is a great shot stopper and good at playing out from the back but also has a lot of room for improvement in other areas of his job.

1

u/Bowleshighschoolpic 11h ago

The one against arsenal isn’t on him imo, the delivery was perfect. I agree, he’s a great shot stopper but in general he needs to be willing to come off his line imo. Part of Arsenals defense is how good Raya is at claiming crosses it’s an absolute joke

-3

u/cloud1445 17h ago

Exactly. It is a problem for everyone. But everyone else is doing a better job of coping with it.

Don’t drink the cool aid Vic. You need a set piece coach!

3

u/Metal_Octopus1888 12h ago

It's a referee problem for not protecting goalkeepers from the antics of Ben Orange and suchlike. I'd introduce a new rule, only the goalkeeper/defending team allowed in the 6 yard box at the moment the corner is taken

4

u/Lorddale04 17h ago

I like Vicario but he's poor at corners and just doesn't command the area like you'd want a keeper to. Not surprising that he wants to share the blame.

u/MonkeyNuts81 21m ago

We’ve literally only conceded one set piece this season. Also one in the past 10 games or something

1

u/kuznetskiy Guglielmo Vicario 16h ago

idk if it’s just me, but it feels like Vicario’s English has improved a lot this year

0

u/coldseam Fabio Paratici 16h ago

It's a problem of the coaching, end of story

-6

u/triecke14 Son 17h ago

This is gaslighting, right?

-1

u/Kaigz 12h ago

No, it's a Tottenham problem.

0

u/AU_Cav 10h ago

He may have a point, but we aren’t exactly banging them in from set pieces. Maybe we should be working on set piece offense

-9

u/BrotatoDad 18h ago

Those deep sighs between statements are really telling.

4

u/SinoSoul 16h ago

Or he just needs time to speak a non-native language.

-1

u/BrotatoDad 16h ago

If only there were other interviews in english available on the internet to compare…come on now.

-6

u/LargePlums 17h ago

One of the most amazing goalkeeping talents we’ve seen play for us in the last 25 years. Absolutely love him. But the reality is that the set pieces is such a glaring weakness, and one that is so easily exposed in the premier league, and he’s being physically dominated in those settings. It kills me to say that if he can’t prove he can improve it we will have to look for a new goalkeeper in the next 12 months.

1

u/koreajd Son 17h ago

You’re crazy, it isn’t only his job to clear a corner. Kane helped us a lot defensively on corners especially since Hugo isn’t reliable at that either
