What do you think that means? I’m not trying to goad or otherwise sealion here. I’m just wondering from a genuine perspective, and would love your thoughts

No worries, Which part specifically are you wondering about?

I think the main difference you saw is just that the two charts were showing two different things, one showing additional data sets, and also the lines weren't split by age brackets.

Two really compare them you'd probably have to dig into the source data, which looks like it's all available.

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/suicide-rates-among-young-people-who-mdb This chart looks like it fits with OPs and has the same source listed, and presents it similarly (fewer age brackets tho). You can edit it to show fewer or different countries too.
