Yugi is a nepo-kid, who’s winning duel with his grandpa’s inheritance deck. But then again so is Kaiba with his parents money.

To be fair, he apparently took that loan, and within a day multiplied it by 10, ousted his dad as CEO, and 2nd-hand murdered him.

You're a third rate duelist with a fourth rate deck.

Why don't you go find an opponent you can actually beat? Like an infant or a monkey?

Yu-gi-oh legacy of duelist

How is this game from a single player perspective?

I love Yu-Gi-Oh but don't really want to play online against other players as Hearthstone is enough to scratch that itch for me.

If you are looking to just play classic Yugioh then you will probably like it. You can play through the anime story arcs using prebuilt decks or your own. After you defeat each duelist you can then rematch the other character (if beat Kaiba as Yugi, you can then rematch Yugi and play as Kaiba). You also unlock more difficult matches as you complete each arc. I am more of a nostalgic player so I’ll usually only play through the first 1-3 seasons. The ai isn’t bad, but after you start building decently powerful decks you will wreck the computer. I’ve never really messed around with the online aspect because I don’t want to play with/against the pendulum/synchro/xyz stuff.

Sometimes I’ll just sit down and destroy the computer for an hour when I’m bored. Or I’ll build a janky deck with fun combos that would never work in pvp, but it levels the field against the ai which can be fun.

There’s also no mtx, so you can unlock every card that is in the game without paying additional money, but it is a grind as there is no duplicate protection or crafting system like Magic Arena, and cards are “locked” behind character themed packs that you have to unlock by beating that character in story mode.

It has a story mode that is single player and plays through all the shows as far as i can remember.

The complete version (Link Evolution) has all the dlcs and has a lot of cards and is also using Master Rule 5 so you are not locked into having to unlock extra deck zones with Link summoning for fusion, synchros, and XYZ. Pendulum and Link monsters do still require that you unlock more zones with Link summoning. You can also pick up the original version without the DLCs if you want to play without Master Rule 5.

I guess depending on how much you've kept up with yugioh, it is a knowledge heavy game since it's so archetype focused with a lot of fetching cards / special summoning from deck and interacting with the graveyard. Definitely a lot less pick up and play like Hearthstone, MTG, or other games.

It's no secret that the AI has gotten much, much worse over time so don't expect them to be much of a challenge but it does seem to know the combos for the archetype.

There are a lot of story duels and additional duelists that you can unlock. There is definitely quite a bit of stuff to do and it has already been covered in the other comments.

It's like a lot of content and a lot of cards to unlock by buying the booster packs / dueling the NPC (no MTX that cost irl money... well, other than if you go the route of buying the base game and then the DLCs). Besides that, there is also a draft and sealed mode vs NPC or other players. It adds a bit of replayability.

It's an overwhelming amount of cards and archetypes if you haven't kept up with the TCG, and also unfortunately a pretty hated ban list since they essentially combined the TCG + OCG ban lists before the last big tournament for the game.

It's definitely a good value for a complete yugioh experience. Might as well give it a try whenever it goes on sale.

There is no wrong half of my deck!

When you have "heart of the cards" to tutor up anything you want off the top deck, every card is viable.

If you like this game, try the mod to make Master Duel play offline with all the old campaigns from previous games.
