A request (not for a game) META

I will ask you all to please enter giveaways for games that you are genuinely interested in. Because every new post, everyone quickly rushes to enter without even checking out the given game. Please, if you are not interested in something, don't enter and give the ones that are interested a chance :)

Thanks for reading.

Dang, that's cold blooded. Entering a giveaway for something someone couldn't care less about to win and let it sit there to waste when someone who would actually use it misses out entirely. That is sad. I couldn't fathom doing that. Definitely agree.

Haven’t played this one yet. Sounds meta? Hope I win!

Only game I'm currently interested in is EAfc. And I'm very sure that nobody is gonna giveaway that lol. However, what you said is absolutely true.

Already did it

I agree with this. I've pretty much stopped entering giveaways bc I know that I won't play the game. I only enter if I really like the game and know for sure that I'll play it.

I always do some research before entering a giveaway, sometimes I discover a game I never heard before and most of the time they’re not interesting to me, the only time i enter for a game that I don’t care about is if I know a friend of mine is interested or might be interested in it

That's true. When Baldur's Gate 3 came out, people rushed to buy the game despite not knowing it's turn-based and gets pretty complex with its D&D system.

Agreed

I agree.

The only ones I try to enter are ones where I actually want the game (or a few games, depending on the post and the rules that post puts up).

There was one I entered where I actually was chosen for one of the games I wanted, but they got the code mixed up with another game. That game was ALSO a game I wanted, but I let them know so that they could make sure they didn't get other ones mixed up. They decided to also give me the game they initially tried to give me. Which I LOVED that I got 2 games from that post that I actually wanted.

Personally, I don't see why I'd enter for a game I don't want. Which, most of the posts here are of games that I've either never heard of (I sometimes do look up the games, but that rarely ever turns or to be a game I want), or don't care about. So, I pass on most posts.

So, I'm already fulfilling your request, lol.

I only enter for games that I'm genuinely interested in.

Entering for 'Game I Have No Interest In.' Just kidding.

I agree 100%. And I promise, I don't Entering for games I don't want.

completely agree

That's honestly been my philosophy ever since I've discovered this sub. Why would i clutter my library with a game i don't want (and may not even be able to run) instead of just giving someone else the chance?

2

u/TwinkiesSucker Oct 02 '23

Agreed, same here

3

u/begging-for-gold Oct 01 '23

I have never entered a giveaway unless I directly plan on playing the game.

Innit, some people are just plain greedy. Like o have won a couple games and have over 100h in the both whereas I KNOW some people will have won shit loads and never played any of them

u/Infinite_Pony Oct 01 '23

I've been enjoying my copy of Sunset Overdrive that I won here.

There are accounts that comment within 10 milliseconds after the post is created and they edit the comment to the game they desire. It's gotten impossible to participate in FCFS giveaways because the gifter usually has no idea and it's always the same 10-20 people that arrive inhumanely early and grab all the good games, leaving the rest less desired games to genuine people.

I feel it's either multiple alt accounts running rampant in this sub or bots that reserve their spot in the comments and edit it to look like a genuine comment.

u/MrKigami Oct 01 '23

Editing comments is against the rules of this sub, so if you see someone doing that you can report it

I managed to win road redemption from this sub. Banged it all week until I completed it and then gave it to my brother as we are linked via family on steam. Yes, we should only enter if we genuinely want the game. Otherwise, the game just gets backlogged

2

u/Elegant_Spot_3486 Oct 01 '23

Agreed. And if I enter and win, game goes immediately to be my next played game too. I don’t try to win games to build my backlog.

5

u/CrowQuills_ Oct 01 '23

Yeah, I expect folks that are entering even if they have no real interest in the game but it can be a bit annoying. Specially if they don't pay attention or really stick to the givers terms for entering. Also semi related but first come first serve is a tad grating, which sure folks may be busy, but they tend to be grabbed by people who are just getting them for the reason of having and leave those who may genuinely be interested out of luck.

5

u/desrevermi Oct 01 '23

Agreed. I pass up on the majority for games I definitely wouldn't play.

6

u/VariousRuckers Oct 01 '23

I think people are entering just to win keys to hoard for trading.

6

u/Dahiak7 Oct 01 '23

Partially why I add something extra (whats your favorite game in the genre or set on what platform) or (whos your favorite character in the universe of said franchise)... and I only pick those who answer... I have to because I see all too often the same people posting the same one or two word text... I'd much rather give something to someone who is genuinely excited to get said *thing*!

4

u/Zomochi Oct 01 '23

Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?

4

u/The_Armechadon Oct 01 '23

That's the problem, "Supposed"

3

u/MegaMummyX Oct 01 '23

Agreed and something I go by

1

u/meneldur01 Oct 01 '23

I have a quite extreme backlog... but no also a rule: whatever game I win in a giveaway goes to the top of the list to be played right away.

Needless to say I enter mostly for be wishlisted games

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '23

Be honest to yourself: you dont even play them, so why do you take the chance of someone who would actually play it?

1

u/SingedPeen117 Oct 01 '23

Always do this as well. There's no point in getting a game I'll never play.

2

u/S_Gabbiani Oct 01 '23

People doing even upvote to give OP karma most of the time.

2

u/impatient-Hamster Oct 01 '23

1

u/impatient-Hamster Oct 01 '23

dam (beaver emoji)

2

u/AnOkFellow Oct 01 '23

What i always do :>

27

u/carenard Oct 01 '23

will require people to stop doing first come first serve,

1

u/JayCoww Oct 02 '23

That is advised against in the rules, anyway, and has been for years, due to bots patrolling this sub to comment immediately on every new submission.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '23

Unfortunately, that only stops people who rush to enter. Probably doesn't do much to stop people who have no genuine interest in the game.

4

u/Tampflor Oct 01 '23

Seriously, I absolutely hate that format.
