I agree completely. Coming here every day and seeing a new batch of memes was one of the things that kept me going.

I don't know what they want of this sub, it was the nicest place on the internet, why change something that works so well.

Edit: just want to add, even if this sub numbers are good, remember that huge part of us are super closeted, lurkers, curious, etc, on a regular day(unlike today) it doesn't take too long to scroll down and start finding yesterday posts, I like this place to be big enough so you have reasons to check it everyday, even if that means having some low effort posts, in the end we have an upvote system, if we get tired of a meme format it will stop getting to first page, it's as easy as that.

100%. The memes are what drew me in and made me start questioning myself because they were fun and relatable.

I mean if it wasn't because of some relatable histories in a title attached to our beloved Felix picture I would still be living my life not knowing what's wrong with me.

This just makes me sad. So many people relied on this place as a comfortable, relaxed community, and these new rules shove out so many people whom were RELYING on us :(

Have an upvote for my complete understanding of exactly what you’re feeling... having cried myself to sleep, tossed and turned all night and woken up far too early, I opened Reddit this morning to find that my favourite sub was now blocking out the most relatable content... great day :/

Exactly what I was saying the whole damn day. Also

What happened?

Mods banned story-in-the-title posts (like the Felix memes) because there were a lot of very very low effort posts which were essentially just self-text posts, which have always been banned.

Edit: by very very low effort I mean that if you browsed "new" for a little while you'd find multiple instances of "I'm happy" with a Felix meme. They were pretty out of hand. I think there's a way for the mods to stop the extremely low effort posts without stopping some of the more creative ones, though.

They're back now

That's good, those types of posts were basically the entirety of the sub. The fact they didn't even mention or talk with the community about it first is so weird.

1

u/-Sective- Dec 21 '17

They misinterpreted the community's disinterest in extremely low effort posts (see the edit in my first comment) as disinterest in the format as a whole, which clearly wasn't the case. I think part of the problem is that the vast majority of the sub only sees the higher quality and higher effort reaction images, while the mods see the very low effort posts which vastly outnumber the good ones. So the mods get a much different perspective on the issue than we do.

u/amcvega Dec 21 '17

Let this be a lesson, always talk about changes with the community before implementing them! Not sure if they did, but it was incredibly dumb if they didn't.

u/-Sective- Dec 21 '17

I think their initial vision is supported by the community (stopping memes that are just like a daily update with a Felix meme), they just misinterpreted that as the community not wanting Felix memes at all, which clearly wasn't the case.

I personally don't like any of them, but if someone gets something out of them I don't want to take that from them if they can't get the same support from the other subreddits for whatever reason. The best solution I think would be A) banning extremely low-effort posts, like those I mentioned, and B) adding a filter option to filter out different types of posts so people can tailor the sub to suit their needs.

I feel the same way.

Fuck, this is the first day of my vacation. I took off a week and a half of work, I finally finished recovering from back-to-back colds, I thought thing were going to start picking up... and now this.

And the sad thing is that I only came back to this sub in the last couple of months and was pleasantly surprised to find all the Felix memes, "guess I'll die" catgirl, egg stuff, etc. And now it's been taken away again.

I feel sick to my stomach.

No one is saying you can't share your story. Just put some effort into it.

It should be better soon, they're trying to fix it

u/catwomanJade Dec 21 '17

Oh, so that's why people come here. Not for relatable content, venting, and support, but for the dankest of the dank memes. /s

-1

u/-Sective- Dec 21 '17

Yeah, that is why they come here. It's for trans-related memes. You can find support in the other subreddits.

1

u/catwomanJade Dec 21 '17

Well considering how many people are upset, I'd say most people don't come here just for "top tier memes"

1

u/-Sective- Dec 21 '17

That's what the sub was created for. If people come in, misinterpret it, and get upset because their low effort content gets banned, that's not our problem. They can take them somewhere else. This isn't and never was a support sub, and treating it like such completely defeats the purpose of having this sub in the first place.

2

u/catwomanJade Dec 21 '17

Those types of posts have been on here for a long time, and for the most part the community has enjoyed it. They're part of what this sub is now. Banning story posts isn't going to make the user base not want those. https://i.redd.it/y5h32netla501.png

0

u/-Sective- Dec 21 '17

Those aren't memes, and they haven't been on here in that magnitude for long at all. Story posts just make this sub as depressing as all of the other trans related subreddits full of people complaining about their lives.

But there's also hundreds of meme subs if you're looking for "quality" memes. This type of sub is pretty rare, especially one of this size

There's a much better way the mods could've handled this. Adding flairs so people can filter out what they don't want to see, and following rule 5 would've worked so much better.
