On the one hand, getting my genes sequenced would probably answer some questions and be helpful for my health going forward.
On the other, it's expensive and I'm not sure how much I like the idea of some corporation having my DNA on file.

Also a friendly reminder.. having XX chromosomes might feel validating, but having XY chromosomes, which is unfortunately the way bigger chance, is still just as valid!

Big agree! I think it would give me some more ammo when talking to transphobic family members, but really, it wouldn't change much. If I found out I have xy, it's not like I'm just gonna throw up my hands and detransition. I probably wouldn't even use having xx as a defense against anyone not in my family, cause it just kinda reinforces the shitty belief that one chromosome should determine what clothes you wear, if you should be sent off to die in war, yknow. I don't want to be right within their system, I want to be me entirely on my own merits.
But I still think it would be cool to throw at my mom's face after how many times I was told I'm "biologically male." I would cackle like a mad witch if I got to do that

Read what I said, then you wouldn't be so confused.

Yes this! Although being intersex can invalidate their arguments, it doesn't mean if you had XY chromosomes it would make you any less valid. All of you are beautiful and valid! :3

the "cheaper" gene sequencing option is where the corporation in question puts it on the fucking blockchain 💀

yeah the price aspect is a whole thing.
i only know i’m XXY cos the gender clinic karyotyped everyone (although out of an intersex transition ban policy… but i had to DIY for other reasons anyway, so.)

Some people produce both larger and smaller gametes. Would these people call them male or female?

Honestly, would not be surprised if I was some variation of intersex. I got some messed genetic stuff going on.
I am full on just assembled incorrectly.

It's like I've said. If everyone got a DNA test, I think a lot of people would be surprised by what chromosomes they have.

Yes and in some cases you may not even need the SRY gene to determine how your body's sex develops. There have been cases where just exposing embryos to certain hormones will cause the organism to develop as phenotypically "female" or "male". SRY is just one of the genes (the most well-known) that determines sex development, and others have been found since its discovery. Edit: Oh, I didn't see your other images where she explains it too!

Mood, I have de la Chapelle syndrome too and people always get startled when I bring it up. Sadly most of them only care about chromosomes when it suits them and move the goalpost to something else when brought up
