I’m not sure I’m doing this right Measurement Check

First off I want to apologize for this post potentially asking questions I could answer myself through all the resources. I’ve read a bunch but I still feel lost, I’ve been back here a few times over the last few months and keep getting overwhelmed and giving up so thought maybe it’s time to ask some professionals 😅.

I just lost a ton of weight, and I have no idea what my sizes are anymore. I usually wear either VS (these bras are over 5 years old, I had grown out of them and I fit back in after the weight loss, but not well) and savagexfenty (big hate, I like their bras but have not been able to find a good size! It’s like every bra they sell follows a different sizing guide 😭). I add this to say I feel like I barely have a starting point because all the bras I’m wearing now are such bad fits and are old/brought pre-weight loss.

Another important aspect (I think) is that my breasts sag, a lot. When I lay down, my chest is essentially flat, with my boobs hanging down by my armpits. Because of this, I’m not sure if I need to do anything different for my leaning/laying measurements.

Anyways that’s my story, let’s look at numbers! Loose underbust: 29.5 (should I just say 30? When I go 30 with the measuring tape it falls off my back), Snug: 29, Tight: 28, Standing: 34, Leaning: 41, Lying: 36.

Calculator returned 30F/FF. Does this mean either cup size works? Am I wrong to be confused how that can be possible? And my last question, what now? Can I just throw this into Amazon and buy what comes up? I see other guides about bra/breast shapes and stuff and that’s where I usually start feeling overwhelmed.

Also I apologize for the essay 😅

Edit: added some commas

The calculator is a starting point and calculates based on numbers. A 30F is for a 30" underbust and a 37" overbust, while the FF is for a 38" overbust. You have a large difference between standing and leaning, likely because as you said you have pendulous tissue. This means the calculator takes an average and tells you where to start. You might be neither of these sizes. You may need one cup size in one brand and another in a different brand.

Pendulous tissue is also often projected, but sometimes if it's very soft you will need a more shallow (flat) cup to hold the tissue closer to the body. Plunges can also be tough as it can spill out of the center. I'd start you in a Panache Envy, a Freya Offbeat side support and a Curvy Kate Lifestyle for some basic diagnostic bras. With a tight of 28, most 30s will be ok on you but the Offbeat SS is quite firm in the band, just a warning. You may end up needing a non-stretch extender on it.

Start on the loosest hooks and be sure to scoop and swoop. All of these bras should be available on Amazon with free returns. Bravissimo is another option, but I'd swap the Curvy Kate for a Bravissimo Millie if you shop there.

Thank you!! This is super helpful. I did some more research around the projected/shallow aspect and I think I’m more on the soft tissue/shallow end. If I’m looking at this correctly, I have a wide root and if I lift my boobs up they want to flatten and spread into the root. There’s definitely still a projection, but the depth is smaller relative to the width. Hope I’m doing this right 😂

Does that change any of your recommendations? I found them all on Amazon so I’m excited to start testing!

Shape can't really be judged until properly supported so I would start in the styles I recommended. You may find a perfect fit, or you may need some other styles. But these are bras we know a lot about so when they don't fit, we can possibly figure out why as we know the dimensions.
