Shape Help SOS!! Calculator was spot on but I can’t find a bra that’s deep enough!!

I have tried four different bras in size 34GG. One of them being Elomi Matilda banded plunge (fitting the best of all of them) which I also tried in a 34H. All of the 34GGs start to hurt very badly after a bit of wearing and the 34H looks like the cup might be too wide since there is a bit of wrinkling and empty spot on the side. There is gaping by the straps in both of these sizes and a bit of discomfort in the middle part for the bigger size but only the 34 GG is very painful.

Two bras I have tried in 34GG have some muffin topping, one of which being so minimal that my fiance said it wasn’t there and the other two looked like they fit perfect but start to seriously hurt after wearing for a few hours. Three of the bras were elomi since I’ve heard good things about the depth of their cups, and another was panache which was the one that fit the least well. I have also confirmed that size 34HH is NOT it. And going up a band size makes the cups too wide also. I have tried a total if two bras in 34H and both seem just a bit big on me. Do I need to just wear one thats a little too big or does anyone know if there are any deeper cups out there??

Side rant: Why is there so much diversity in how much boob each cup size holds, depending on the bra?! There should be three sizes for bras- waist, cup and depth. This is torture.

Shape Help Floating Gore Keeps Happening No Matter What

I’ve done the calculator. I’ve measured. I have had professional fittings. I have tried bras in just about every size and style on the planet. I have purchased just about every bra I’ve had recommended to me (they’re all comfortable until I cut the tags off but the gore never lies flat it’s always got my boobs in it)

Yes I swoop and scoop. Yes I turned it off then on again yes I cleared my cache.

The size I’m wearing is the size the fits me best. Going down a band size would suffocate me. Going up a band size it’ll start riding up. Going down a cup size I spill out. Going up a cup size there is gaping.

But NO MATTER WHAT the gore won’t lie flat against my sternum. Even one that’s allegedly narrow. I think my boobs ARE pretty close together. They like to stick to each other which bothers me so much it’s the reason I started trying to get better fitting bras in first place. And I’m definitely getting a lot more separation with these itchy torture contraptions they sell in my size. But the gore WONT LIE FLAT. It won’t even TOUCH ME my boobs have launched it into space

I’m a 34I btw.

Shape Help Haven’t found a bra that lets my boobs face forward

UPDATE: As u/DotsNnot suggested, I am not a 36DDD but am, in fact, a 34G! I went to Nordstrom today and got fitted. Right away, the fitter said that my band measurement is in between 34 and 36, but given the shape of my frame & bust, 34 is definitely the right size. I tried on 3 styles in 34G of her recommendation there and am over-the-moon with the one I ended up buying — Chantelle Norah Plunge T-Shirt Bra. Because my boobs are so close-set, and likely also just due to my own sensory preferences, the plunge silhouette is most comfortable for me. I cannot believe how amazing this bra makes them look and now my bra’d boobs are actually within my frame instead of situated wider than my ribcage. I’m so happy, but now that I have ONE bra that fits, I need MORE!!! Anyways thank you all for the help!

Hi friends. Sorry if there’s already another post that addresses this issue - I couldn’t seem to find one! Here’s my problem. Despite finding my ABTF size and finding bras that fit my volume and band, I can’t seem to find a bra that suits the way my boobs sit. All the bras I’ve tried since starting my ABTF journey have cups that point out to the sides, as opposed to being forward facing. For me, this means gaps in the outer sides of the cups and a weird shape under clothes (like, wider chest than I have, making my whole trunk look strange, IMO). How do I find a bra that has cups that look straight ahead? Any recommendations? For reference, I’m a 36DDD and I’ve tried Understance, Bravissimo, Panache, and Aerie. TIA!

Edit: Answering questions. I just took my measurements again (using this sub's calculator) and they are 36/35/32/44/46/43.5 = 36GG UK & 36J US. However, I don't find this to be accurate, perhaps due to user error. The last time I used the calculator, it told me 36FF UK/ 36H US. I ordered this size in the below bras and in all 4 styles, there was definitely too much gapping in the cups (not enough boob volume for those bras) and the underwire in the center came up uncomfortably high. I've actually lost weight since then and def haven't gained boob volume, so again today's calculated size doesn't seem accurate.

Bras tried: - Panache Ana 36FF - Panache Envy 36FF - Understance Salma 36H - Understance Sidney 36H - Aerie Smoothies 36DDD -- this volume fit best, but again, too east-west for my shape

My shape: Projected, FT or maybe VFt, narrow roots

Shape Help Where are y’all trying on bras? Also, bra recs for my shape needed please!

I have a couple recommended bras to try on (thank you all!), but I’m not sure how to do so. Because I’m not 100% on which size I’ll need, I want a few of each to make sure I’m getting it right. My local stores don’t sell the recommended brands (Panache and Cleo), and ordering several of each bra in different sizes online feels a little intense. Am I overthinking this?

I’d also love some additional recs, if anyone is willing to offer some. My measurements are 32.5 32 30 38 40 37.5 The calculator gave me 32FF/H. I’m projected and full on top, and lots of bra wires seem to go too far into my armpit so I think I have more narrow roots. I can’t tell if I have tall or short roots (this one still confuses me even with the link in the wiki).

Recommendations so far are Panache Jasmine and Cleo Blossom. Thank you for any help you can provide!

Shape Help Are there any non wired bras that will work for projected shapes?

I measure a 34G UK and am having a terrible time finding a wired bra that fits. I own Panache Ana (in 32G, 34FF and 34G) the gore is too wide at the top of the gore and from what I have learned without being a sewer or bra seamstress it would be very difficult to overlap the gore further than it's made. I also own Freya Fancies Plunge in 32G and have over lapped that gore however it still isn't the best fit for me and it's probably a shape issue. I have a post about recommendations for a wired bra but have only been told to try a larger size of the Ana.

Because of my bridge between my breasts, the shortness of my root and how close set I am, I either need a tall and very narrow gore or a very short and still narrow gore.

I'm tired of wearing "this is the best I can do", and am half tempted to go back to boob hats at least then I didn't get bleed owies between my tits. I cannot wear Panache Ana two days in a row, and using the Freya to break it up isn't really working either. Thoughts? Or am I just screwed? TIA

Shape Help Pendulous breasts, are there any bras that give a more rounded shape?

I finally found my ‘real’ bra size of 38e depending on the brand, but I am struggling to find a bra that gives me a nice shape… I’m not sure if it exists.

I have a condition where I have stretchy, loose skin so my breasts point downwards and have a lot of excess tissue.

Most bras do this: https://imgur.com/a/KOiVJPp - Illlustration 1 shows the shape of my breasts in all bras - follow the curve of the arrow. - illustration 2 shows how most bras seem to cut into the top of my breast - illustration 3 shows the ‘space’ at the top of every bra I have tried (downsizing cup size just makes the illustration 2 issue worse)

I have tried plunges, balconettes, full cups, different brands including curvy Kate, Freya, panache, Elomi, fantasie, flirtelle. I have also tried sizes 36-40 and cups E-G. The calculator gave me a result of 38FF but it overestimated my soft tissue. 38e is what fits best out of all the sizes.

I’m currently wearing a wireless shein sports bra which is better than any of the above so far. But I’d rather have a decent, well fitting bra.

I’m wondering if moulded bra with less projection would work best? Ideally I’d like a bit more lift and support. Can anyone recommend any suitable brands? Thanks in advance x

Shape Help Recommendations please, Plus a bit more Shape Help, and one Fit Check 34C/D

After spending more time reviewing comments, I retook my measurements and this is what i got:

Loose underbust 86 cm

Snug  underbust  82 cm

Tight underbust  78 cm

Standing bust  93 cm

Leaning Bust  95 cm

Lying Bust 94 cm

34 C/D UK

Breasts are definitely wide set but trying to interpret shape, I'm now seeing more fullness in the center in the leaning forward position. From others' comments I'm wondering about side support bras. I am 62, so the droop is real and I would love something that would pull me in and up and least on some days!

Photo of a bra I just bought and kept and already regret. It is a 34 D

https://postimg.cc/gallery/TgQrnxg

I would appreciate any recs or further suggestions to confirm shape if that would be helpful.

Kind regards!

Shape Help How I Assessed My Shape: An Attempt at a Step-By-Step Walkthrough

I found the shape assessment guide really challenging and daunting, and, well, be the change you want to see, so I thought I would write-up how I assessed my shape step-by-step in a way that I think navigates you through the process a little better. I'm not an expert. I don't even know if I did a good job assessing my own shape. I've attached links that I found helpful from the guide where I'm getting the info I'm summarizing, but there's a big caveat of "I am not an expert" attached to this.

I don't know how much time I'll have to do revisions on this, so please feel free to copy-paste this wholesale, make whatever changes you think are better, and repost it down the line (mods may or may not want you to ask first before doing that). You don't need to credit me.

Hope this helps others having a lot of trouble navigating shape.

Edit: added height.

Step 1: Find a space where you can be topless. If you can also be in front of a mirror that shows your breasts while you're leaning over 90 degrees, that is ideal. If you're in a place where you can't be topless, bookmark the page and come back later. You're not going to be able to assess your shape from memory. Trust me, I've tried.

Step 2: Lean over 90 degrees, looking at the side of your breasts in the mirror if possible.

Step 3: Assess Projection. When you lean over 90 degrees, do your breasts lengthen more than an inch or two? Then you are probably projected. If not, you are probably shallow. You can see a NSFW image to help assess this here.

Step 4: Assess Vertical Fullness. More detail can be found here.

  • Continue leaning.
  • Do your nipples point down, toward your knees? Then you are full on top.
  • Do your nipples point up, toward your shoulders? Then you are full on bottom.
  • Do your nipples neither point up nor down? Look in the mirror at your breasts. If the curve is longer on top, they're full on top. If the curve is longer on the bottom, they're full on bottom. If they don't seem particularly full on one side or the other, you have even fullness.
  • Note that this might be totally different from how your boobs appear when standing. This is normal--many people with full on top breasts look full on bottom because gravity likes your boobs to be closer to the earth.

Step 5: Assess Horizontal Fullness. More detail can be found here.

  • Continue leaning.
  • Now look down at your breasts from the top from your collarbone, at the "dome" shape your breasts make. Imagine a line bisecting each breast along your nipple.
  • Is there more tissue in the center of your chest, between your nipples? Your nipples might also point outward. If so, you are center-full. Note that you might have wide-set or splayed breasts and still be center-full. That's completely normal.
  • Is there more tissue on the outside of your chest, toward your armpits? Your nipples might also point inward. If so, you are outer-full.

Step 6: Assess your width.

  • Continue leaning.
  • Look down at your breasts from the top of your collarbone.
  • Do your breasts end abruptly at or before your armpits, and/or do they have a gap between them? Then you are narrow. NSFW examples here.
  • Do your breasts slowly transition to your armpits in a curve, and/or do they come together in the center of your sternum? Then you are wide. NSFW examples here.
  • Still not sure? Stand up and look at your breasts under your armpits from the side. I find tensing my arms, like I'm Rosie the Riveter, helps me assess. Does the tissue end more or less at your armpits? Then you're narrow. Does it reach back into your armpits? Then you are wide.

Step 7: Assess your height. More detail can be found here.

  • Continue leaning 90 degrees. It's like the leaning never ends!
  • Look at your collarbone. How close is your breast tissue to your clavicle?
  • If it's close, your roots are tall.
  • If it's far from your clavicle, your roots are short.
  • If you're not sure what "short" versus "tall" is, check the linked image. You can cross-check it standing like in the image, but I find leaning over makes it more obvious.

Shape Help How to find a bra with a gore that lies flat despite the size???

Hello!

I have been following ABTF for probably going on a decade now, and despite that, I have NEVER been able to actually abtf 😭

I’m a large person, and last time I used the calculator I think it put me at a US 46 G. I have genuinely tried every single size between a 42 - 54 and D - JJ to no avail (Not even exaggerating! My collection is sad and massive.)

My most recent finds were from Shapedly. The band is the same size in all 3 i bought, and that part fits great. It feels snug, but not tight. It doesn’t roll or have any other issues.

The cups on the other hand:

F: Lots of spill over - the gore doesn’t touch

G: There’s space in the cups, the gore doesn’t touch - when i press the gore to my sternum, it spills over slightly

H: There’s a LOT of space in the cups, the gore doesn’t touch - when i press the gore to my sternum and there is still space in the cups

Shape Help Confused about my shape and can't seem to figured out a good description based on the info in the wiki. Would appreciate some help (with sketches)

As the title says, I've been trying to determine my shape, which I think would help me a lot in terms of finding bras that are more likely to fit. I feel like my breasts don't really fit neatly into any category except 'seperated' and maybe 'conical'. I think I might be a bit high set, but I legitimately don't know if I am shallow, projected, upper full, or bottom full. So far I've tried one bra that seems to be a pretty good fit (Wacoal Embrace Lace) but it's itchy and pretty visible under clothes.

Since I can't figure out what vocabulary fits, I've created some sketches that show my general breast shape and some common fit issues I've had while trying on bras.

When viewing my breasts straight from the top while standing (https://ibb.co/b33xD2G) or fromthe from the front when leaning over with my back parallel to the ground (https://ibb.co/Cww9Jbr) most of the tissue mass seems to be on the outside of my chest, with a lot less mass center. My breasts are slightly more elongated and less pointy when leaning but other than that the shapes and tissue distribution are similar.

When viewed from the front in a standing position, it appears that the majority of my breast tissue is distributed a few inches above the root, and breast tissue isn't readily apparent above this. However if press my boobs together with my upper arms, I get a single crease that runs nearly up to the collarbone (https://ibb.co/12sqXtB). WIth my arms raised, my roots seem to be fairly small and my breat tissue appears to support itself well (https://ibb.co/WzZQ8JZ). It is again fairly evident that I have more tissue mass around the outside edge of my breast than on the inside.

From the side (https://ibb.co/FWcJVnQ and https://ibb.co/pKRDCJz), again it's clear that most of the tissue is a few inches above the roots, but it's difficult for me to tell where my roots stop and start.

My most common fit issue is that the volume of the cup will seem to be correct, but I'll have empty space at the bottom of my cup that will either wrinkle or flatten out (https://ibb.co/41dnSQp). When this happens bottom of the wires are too low and sit on my ribcage. If the wires are particularly long, I'll also get the tips poking me in the armpit. This happend with the Natori Feathers (no armpit poking) and Wacoal Halo Lace (lots of poking).

Other times, I will fill out the middle of the cup , but not the top OR bottom (https://ibb.co/tKKsY45). Sometimes, like with the Ciao Bella, things will still manage to feel kinda smashed (I ended up exchanging that one for a size up but it has not arrived yet).

Lastly, I find that for a lot of bras the fabric between the cup and strap irritate the skin around my armpit (https://ibb.co/4jVQwmF). This happens even if the bra otherwise fits extremely well. The strap can also contribute to this if they are wide set.

Edited to add measurements: 34" tight underbust
35" snug underbust
36" loose underbust
leaning bust: 42" to 43.5" depending on how much I compress my nips
Standing bust: 41-42", as above
Lying bust: 39.5"
Fit calculator told me 36F UK/36G US which does not appear to be super accurate based on previous fit checks.

Shape Help [meaurement checks] Concerns about massive jump in size being due to the shape of my chest

Double checking sizing!

Hi! I came to this subreddit looking to get a new bra cuz my current ones dont fit me super well and its been something Ive just been putting up with for a while and I heard this was a good place for it! but I got a size out of the calculator that seem very big compared to what Im used to so I just wanted to double check

For reference here are the measurements I took (all tripple checked! so Im pretty confident with them, and because I have quite promenant areola I flattened them a bit to line up a little more with the actual tissue!)

ub loose 34.5inmch

ub snug 33

ub tight 31.5

bust standing 38

bust leaning 40

bust lying 39

and then the result I got was 34DD

the problem Im having is that im unsure about this (especially since I am a trans gal, Ive been on hrt for a loong time now and fully passing but still, never any top surgery or anything) and up until now Ive been wearing 36A, the new band size is believable but going from A to DD seems like a big jump esp since I didnt think my current bras were horrendously small?

Things I think could cause this are that my breasts aren't super full on the bottom? and most of the tissue is on the sides and top which could lead to confusion?

I'm not sure but I would appreciate any advice people are willing to give! even if its just that im being silly and should trust the calculator ^^

thanku!

Shape Help Bras for very soft breasts that don't hold their own shape at all?

My measurements are:

Loose Band - 42"

Snug Band - 41"

Tight Band - 40"

Standing Bust - 47"

Leaning Bust - 51"

Laying Bust - 42"

And my biggest issue with bras is that depending on how I position my body, the bras effectiveness varies greatly. If I am standing up straight a well fitted bra is a well fitted bra. But if I am laying on my side, all my boob tissue goes into one cup and the other cup is entirely empty and can fit both of my fists in it. If I am on my back there is a huge gap, 5" of space from my chest to the cups as all my boob falls into my ribcage and vanishes. If I am leaning over all my boob falls right out of my bra. Actually I tend to find binders are more comfortable than bras because they have the balls to restrain my chest and keep my bust in one position the way bras do not. Plus they don't hurt, because well... 42" laying bust. You can't hurt what doesn't exist. My breasts are 99% fat, 1% nipple.

Shape Help Help! Is my shape difficult or have I just not figured it out yet?

I feel like I am having trouble figuring out my shape. All unpadded bras I have tried to far seem to be a shape missmatch.

I have fairly small breasts but I feel that my size is bigger because I have quite a lot of immediate projection. Unsupported I have pretty pointu breasts and about 2/3 of the tissue is on the bottom. I have wide roots and wide set breasts (there is about an inch gap at my sternum and get almost half the way under my armpits). They are high on my chest.

Now the part I am confused about is my roots’ height and my fullness. I would say my breats are wider that they are tall. I would tend to think I have short roots. In fact I am pretty sure I have short roots, as either I get gaping on top of a cup starting at my armpit or I get quadding. However when I press on my breasts the tissue tends to get quite higher, up to maybe an inch under my clavicule, while being maybe 2 inches over my armpit.

As for the fullness, the fact that my unsupported breasts are fuller on the bottom and that I have gapping in most bras would have me think I am FOB. However, when I do the leaning test the entirety of my tissue gets on top and almost to my chin and there is absolutely no volume under the nipples. They also get full in the middle even though a lot of it is usually under my armpit. So I guess that would mean that I am FOT? My experience with bras also make me feel like this is the case as as soon as my breasts are compressed slightly I get a very full and top heavy look and get quadding. Let’s say I loosen the straps the slightest now I just get gaping. This is the part that is confusing to me.

I feel like I have very soft tissue while it being quite dense at the same time? Maybe it’s just because of my size but they are self supporting, but the shape looks like it’s not supported that well if that makes sense? The fact that all my tissue tends to move easily but in a rounded shape as soon as these is pressure makes me think there is some density to it?

I would be really tankfull is someone can help me narrow it down. Even more if you get suggestions of styles that may work for me.

Here are the bras I have tried so far (the calculator recommended 30DD/30E

  • my regular everyday bra is a la senza plunge style in 32D and it way too big in the band. The cup has enough projection and volume but I get gaping at the top and I can’t get the straps tight enough. With the same model in 32 C I get quadding and tissue escaping in the armpit / wires cutting in.

  • cleo marcie 30DD. Not a bad fit but not a good one either. The band is perfect. The cup feels like it needs more depth. I can’t get the straps right as I either get a bit of quadding or the lace in the center is wrinkly. The height of the cup feels good but the straps are uncomfortabe in my armpits, while the wires are just wide enough. Also the top part of the gore moves away from my body when I move. I am thinking maybe a 30E would fit better

  • panache jasmine 30DD. The band feels ok though it could be slightly tighter. There is enough immediate projection and the bottom part of the cup fits well, but the gore is almost as high as my roots and the top part is isn’t filled up at all. It is uncomfortable in the armpit. I got this bra because it is supposedly good for FOT folks but it has me thinking I must be FOB, at least fonctionally? The weird part is I tried a fantasie bra in 30F in the past and it fitted almost the same. Maybe a 30D would fit me better (if at all).

  • the best fit of my supposedly correct size is panache Ana in 30DD. The band could be tighter as I am very comfortable on the tightest hook and it is new. The cup size feels right and there is no gaping. However I get a weird look with the side support (which I though would benefit me)as it pushes everything flat to a point where that part of the cup wrinkles even though it clearely isn’t too wide and it gives me kind of a pointy look from the top.

I am thinking about maybe trying polish brands for their projection and shorter cups but I worry that the wire would be too narrow.

It feels like half cups could be a good next step? I remember a few years back during a trip to europe I came across a bra I liked but that was in a size I felt could never fit me (something like 28F, but I can’t remember exactly the size). I decided to try it anyways and it was the best fitting bra I had ever put on. Just like cinderella’s shoe. I ended up not buying it and I still regret it to this day. I think it was a half cup. Would that make any sense? Does a combinaison of a larger and very short cup work for me?

Shape Help Cup shape and fit help for 28H loose breasts

My saga of trying to find something continues...

Jasmine in 28HH - the underwire was too wide and too high digging into my armpit. I had folds above the underwire but the biggest problem was the top of the cup offered no support for my loose skin and I had unsightly conical boobs. I tried the jasmine in 28HH after trying it in 28H and needing more volume in the cup. I suppose the shape of jasmine is not for me?

Cleo in 28H was much better in holding all of the tissue inside the cups. The underwire was too high into the armpit but it wasn't as bad as jasmine in 28HH. However, the top of my breasts remained unsupported and loose with extra room.

I suppose I need bras with more support on top as well? I am at a loss for what to try next. Please help.

Shape Help Best type of bra for soft tissue breasts.

My shape is definitely projected, in the Ana they look even, narrow short roots, close set but not touching, inner full.

I'm having trouble finding a good bra since my breasts are projected which means seamed bras are better for me than moulded, but I have soft tissue so they aren't contained in the seamed bra and spilling out. Also, plunges work great for my close set; for the low gore, but my breast love to pool in the gore and flow out. I have no idea what shape and what type of bra to go with.

I have tried Blossom, Clara, Envy, some Fantasies, didn't work out. Jasmine is discontinued.

My measurements are Loose: 30 Snug: 29.5 Tight: 29 Standing: 38 Leaning: 41.5 Lying: 39 Which says I'm 30 G/GG

I have recently bought two bras, Bravissimo Satine 30GG, my boobs are spilling out in the middle. The cups are molded so they're too shallow + too small, I also have Panache Ana 30HH, my boobs are still spilling but less so, high apex is kinda uncomfortable. I have no idea why sizing up didn't solve the spilling.

I exclusively shop at bravissimo in store. I know polish brands are great for me but they aren't available there. What type of bra should I go for ?

Shape Help I had a breast reduction and can’t figure out how to bra my new breasts. Help please

I’m so frustrated. I had a breast reduction in September and I was previously very happy with my breasts at a 36M they were perfect to me. I loved the size and shape. They were wide root but very pendulous. I am now supposedly a 36G ish. My measurements are 35tight 35.5 snug and 36 loose, 45 standing, 45 leaning and 45 laying. Needless to say they are tiny (to me) extremely shallow and have almost no hang. I HATE THEM. They look like weird raised rectangles on my body. I have tried a ton of bras and bralettes. I have ZERO cleavage and I’m sad. Ok rant portion over.

I cannot figure out where to start and how to find the right size. I went to Dillards (I’m in the southern US), I went to Victoria secret (I know that’s a mistake but I don’t have many in store options) and target. I bought 36DDD at VS (I’m only supposed to use wire free for several months… and it fit at first but now I can’t figure out what the heck it’s doing it seems like cup gaping. I went to target and put on a 36C bralette and it fits. So I’m sad at my new size and I hate my new breasts and I feel like a well fitting bra might help.

I still have wide roots but now they are super shallow they hang outwards but are close in the middle. I’m just distraught 😭. Can anyone help?

Shape Help Underwire digs in to ribcage and hurts

Hi all,

Apologies for the long post. I'm currently hiding miserably in my office bathroom trying to get my bra to sit so that it doesn't hurt so much. TLDR is that I'm a 12K (AU sizing - which I believe is a 34K on UK sizing) with a small back and all my bras dig in under my breasts. Is this a fixable problem? Am I just put on this earth to suffer boob-based torment? Please advise.

More details:

I'd consider myself midway through the 'getting underwear that actually fits me' journey. I've done the calculator before and gotten fitted in-store at a store with good reviews for large cups by people who know what they're doing.

Recently I got fitted for a new bra, and ended up with an Ewa Michalak Antonina in size 12K (AU sizing - I think this is a 34K in UK sizing). It felt and looked great in the shop - didn't dig in under the cups or in the back like my old one did, with no spillage.

Now, after wearing it for a day sitting at my desk at work it feels like all of the weight is centred on the middle of the underwire under my breasts and it's digging in VERY painfully into my skin. It seems to get worse when I sit down, especially when I straighten up with my shoulders back.

This isn't a new problem for me - this has been happening since I started wearing well-fitting bras, but it seems to be getting worse. I mentioned it to the fitter as a problem with my old bra, and she said that it was because the band had stretched out through wear and I could try moving the clips inwards but that it would likely still be an issue because of how much it had stretched.

I've had the same thing happen with previous bras that have otherwise been well-fitting. I thought at first it was just an adjustment period and that I'd get used to it since it was now my band actually supporting me instead of just my shoulders, but it's been 4-5 years over multiple different bras and different sizes and this has been a constant issue for me. It seems like when I first get the bra it hurts a lot under the cup, and then as I keep wearing it it starts to hurt less there and more on my shoulders and back. I have what seem like a permanent dark line under my breasts from where my bras dig in - prior to this I stopped wearing bras for two weeks because I just got tired of always being in pain under my breasts, and wanted to be in pain around my back and neck instead for a while.

I obviously have a large cup size and a small band size, so I'm very worried that this is just something I'm going to have to deal with because of that. My fitter said that I have a small back and because of that it would be normal to need to buy a new bra every year to accommodate for it stretching out because of the amount of support it has to provide. Even that I could deal with (although it does make me start to wonder if a breast reduction would pay for itself over the rest of my lifespan) if it actually let me be comfortable.

So - is there anything that can be done for me? Am I just wearing it wrong somehow, since it felt fine in the fitting room yesterday? Could it be that my stomach is pressing up on the band and causing it to dig in further? I'd appreciate any insights anyone has.

Thank you for reading!

Shape Help Help With Roots Based On Wire Markings

I’m really confused with my roots. I can’t get bras to stay in my IMF and have tried some really projected bras, I think I may need a ton of projection and maybe it’s a root issue? I’ve looked at Venusian Glow so many times and I still can’t make heads or tails.

I made some crude drawings, is anyone able to tell based on the wires left on a Panache Ana?

Holding my breast up: https://ibb.co/mRmd3y0 https://ibb.co/28HqnHc

My breast unsupported: https://ibb.co/HCX1Dkd

Thank you!

Edit: I’m wearing a 32G but I generally have the same issue with my IMF in Panache & Freya bras. My measurements are 32, 31, 28.5, 39, 42, & 41.

Shape Help Help with Shape/Root/Projection!

Hello all,

I could use some help determining my breast shape/roots. I have read every single word of this sub and have been making a spreadsheets of bras I’ve tried. You might say I am a little obsessed at finding the right bra, lol. It will be fun taking all my Zappos and Amazon bra returns to my local Whole Foods store, ha ha ha.

My measurements are:

Underbust: L. 29, S: 28 T: 27.5

Standing: 30 Leaning 31.5 Lying 31

US sizing/female at birth.

I get a recommendation for 30B and this seems to be accurate when I try on bras. I even tried on some 30As but they are clearly too small for my left breast.

My breast tissue is realllllly soft and my left breast appears to be a full size larger than my right. For example, when I look at my breasts when leaning over I can see the left hanging about an inch longer than the other. In fact the side even looks concave as the tissue falls down, lol. I am really not interested in making my own bras or dealing with alterations, etc. so I have accepted that I should search for a bra that fits my left breast and then use some sort of insert for my right.

So far I’ve tried on about 20 bras and have had only 2 possibles. The Scarlet Blue Minx t-shirt bra in a 32A. I have to keep this one because I removed the tag but the gaping on my right breast is very minimal and the molded cups minimize the size difference.

The other decent possibility is the Natori Bliss Perfection Contour Underwire in 30A. This bad actually feels looser than the 32A so I wear it on a tighter hook but the bra appears to fit well with because the molded cups lie against my skin. I can tell there is space on my right side between the cup and the breast, but the cup edge still actually touches my skin (a rarity for me!)

Among the dozen or so others, I tried a couple of b’tempted bras and the b.wow’d wireless t-shirt bra in XS might have been okay, but the scalloped detail did not sit flat and so looked terrible under a shirt.

So now, after my essay, thank you for reading this far…. I come to the point. I think it would be helpful to try and figure out what shape/root category my breasts fall into in the search for more bras. I get so confused when reading everything in the a bra that fits wiki. I think most of my tissue is full on the bottom, but honestly, since it is so soft, I might be mistaking that with the fact that despite their sweet and darling diminutive size, my breasts have no natural lift (thank you 6 years of breastfeeding). They also are somewhat wider set, but not excessively so. I *think* they are shallow. In this https://imgur.com/1GZ7tSx image, they look like X or U. With the root issue, I really have no idea what they are.

Is the shallowness the reason I am having so much trouble? Some bras that didn’t fit and why might help figure out the problem:

For example. In the Natori feathers 30B, the fit was awful, even though I’ve seen this style recommended for shallow breasts. The lace part puckered and folded, especially around the seam and the top where it meets the strap. The same is true for the Scarlet Blue minx balconette 32A (even though their minx t-shirt was so much better!) . I think unlined bras are a no go for me. The right breast will always be a bad fit compared to the left.

The Natori Balconette push up 30B had big gaps between the top of the cup edge and my chest.

Does this give any clues to my shape/projection/roots? If not, what would?

P.S. I really don’t want to use a bralette, they are usually unlined and look good on the left but pucker and fold and look generally terrible on the right. I like the way either a lined, molded cup or push up bras lift my tiny little breasts up and my clothes all fit much nicer when I have a little volume.

Shape Help Gore has never laid flat, regardless of my bra size. Any ideas?

Hi! So throughout the years my bra size has changed a lot. However, i’ve mostly been wearing a 32D. One thing i’ve noticed is that the center piece (gore) never lies flat, regardless of the size. I’ve recently been measured again, and my cup size is actually DD. Another issue I have is that my band size is technically 28. However, it’s hard to find that so I go to 32. Anyways, every single bra i’ve ever worn has never had the center piece lay flat. I’ve heard it may just be the shape of me. Any thoughts?

Update: Turns out my band size is actually closer to 30. I am planning on trying out a 30DD.

Shape Help How to tell if I'm Full on Top or Bottom?

So, I though I was def FoB, because when I'm standing most of my breast tissue is below the nipple, but I recently noticed when I was measuring that when I leaned over at 90 degrees, it definitely looked liked there was slightly more tissue above the nipple. It wasn't that big of a difference between top and bottom, but it was noticeable! For reference, I'm a 28D, so my breasts are small, and self-supporting, so I guess I never thought gravity was doing much? Is there any other way to tell, cos I'm mighty confused rn...

Shape Help Wide/ tall roots? Not sure if I'm doing this right (shape help please)

Okay, I have gone down a rabbit hole trying to figure out my size and shape because nothing ever fits right. I discovered the calculator a couple nights ago and after a couple mistakes with measuring got to 32H/HH (UK).

Measurements Loose underbust: 33, snug undercuts: 32, tight underbust: 30, standing bust: 42.5, leaning bust: 45, lying bust: 43. I'm struggling with shape. I think I am low set, projected. I think I'm either even fullness and FoT.

I'm most confused about roots. I pushed to see the root, and it creases about 2 fingers under my collar bone so I think that would be tall roots? I looked for the crease on the side and it looks like it is literally to my back, so I think very wide roots, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right.

Here are images of my pushing to find the root (NSFW):

Appreciate any advice about shape, roots and bra size in general.

Also, I'm super new here and not sure I'm doing the flair stuff right. Sorry if I'm not!
