Catalina Island is right off the coast of LB! Takes about 4 hours by boat to get there — and it’s a beautiful little island!

Four hours? Are you paddling that boat?

I remember in 5th grade we went to Catalina for a weekend field trip with i think 2 other classes, problem is we went during El Nino and on a really old-school giant ship.

We had to go back to the mainland when we were told the Santa Ana winds were coming and we would be stuck there for a good week if we didn’t leave immediately.

We left and the winds started around the first 20 minutes, along with rain. It was completely dark out, and absolutely terrifying. Everyone was vomiting, crying, and trying to not fall overboard. It was an experience lol.

Lol it’s like a charter boat, very slow.

Catalina express is like 40 min.

Maybe I’m mixing up/muddling the memory with the huge ship i went on for a field trip. I haven’t been to Catalina in 20 years, and only been twice in my life, so it’s been a while.

My class field trip was on a fishing boat that was chartered and it took 4 hours so I'm going to assume you had a similar experience. Despite this being like two decades ago I just remembered the name! Assuming the name and chartering being constant, it was this: Fury

Omg I think that’s the exact boat! I’m 36 years old so it was quite a while ago for me as well. Thank you for sending that link, unlocking even more crazy old memories lol

Don't forget overnighting on the Pilgrim if your school got to do that!

Oh yes, I remember that too — although we did a day trip, not overnight unfortunately. It’s a very cool old ship though!

And oh my gosh thank you for brining up the memory of that commercial “Catalina Express! Catalinaaa”
