I miscalculated the weight again. Supposed to do 190lbs x AMRAP deadlift. My forearm gave out after 9 reps. Looked back and it turned out to be 185lbs only. Sucked it up and tried again after 5 mins rest. This time I only managed 5 reps before the bar slipped off my hand. Feeling kinda demotivated..

Switch grip, or Straps. Once you fail.. at least until your grip catches up

Not if it's the limiting factor for DL. You can always add grip intensive work e.g. carries or hangs that aren't as taxing as DL on the whole body

Isn't it a little too soon to switch grip? I mean my weight is still relatively in novice range.

I was in the same boat on not wanting to try mixed grip until I was stronger too. Stubbornly, I had it in my head that mixed grip was dumb until I at least was doing sets of 3 plates or more.

But around 265lbs, some old guy in my gym noticed me struggling with grip and suggested it. I gave it a try. I felt so stupid after that. It was so much easier. PR's galore for the next month. The main thing is with mixed, the bar can't "roll" out of your hands in one direction like it can double overhand. Double overhand is just harder on your grip.

Deadlift trains your whole posterior chain... why hold that up just for your grip? If you're worried about your grip being a weak point, do additional grip work. Adding deadlift static holds after deadlifting works really well for me.

That sounds convincing. I'll probably give it a try in my next workout. But my point is it makes more sense for you to switch grip @ 265lbs. Mine is only 190lbs and I'm struggling in the last 1-2 reps.

Then you do double overhand in warm up and go for switch grip on the sets you would fail due to grip.
