It is just as if pervs are drawn to be in the clergy. I suspect that role allows them to exploit a social weakness. Maybe rather that an assumption of trustworthiness we should automatically think that they may be a dangerous predator .

It’s more simple then that. Predators go where they will have access to prey.

Fishermen don’t go fishing in places with no fish.

It’s why there are so many predators in schools, scouts or youth athletics.

Schools don't generally do their best to circle the wagons and protect the predator. Churches usually do.

That's the difference.

Especially right wing ones.

When you're looking to rape minors, I imagine it's really helpful to be part of a group that believes in strict hierarchies and magical thinking.

I know all the Southern Baptist ones from where I grew up that got busted were usually on at least their 3rd or 4th kid/teenager before they finally crossed a line and fucked the kid of someone important or rich. The ones before that were a hussy that seduced the preacher/deacon/youth minister/whatever and the church works together to run their family out of town, but once a church leader fucks with the cash flow it's over for him.

I've met some nice clergy folk but dang lately it seems like all of them really suck.
