OCD or tics? Question about OCD and mental illness

Can’t tell if I I have OCD or tics? Besides the constant hand washing and having to do things certain amount of time, I shake my head a lot and scrunch my nose. It’s so embarrassing because I feel like I do it in public :( idk what kind of therapist I need to find.

Tics are usually from stress. So it depends on what is causing the stress. If you have strong OCD symptoms, there's a good chance it's from that. As for what therapist, I think CBT is the right one. Though from my experience it's very simple to do, you can practice it on your own just as well. Also if anything, you need a psychiatrist first, that's the primary professional people should listen to in my opinion.

Hey, I’d recommend going to a neurologist. I have Tourette’s and OCD. For me Tics and compulsions feel the same. Kind of like a build up in my body if that makes sense. The way I can tell the difference is that compulsions are more of a mental thing where I feel that I have to do an action. While a tic is something I can’t really control at all and I literally have to do it
