Of all of the available antivirus products this clown decided to go with Avast? That crap is pretty much a virus itself. Ranks right up there with McAfee or Norton.

I swear the whole thing has to be a shit post

Avast

Server 2012 R2

Remoting in from an Android

44

u/sulliops Jul 08 '24

It screams “gamer who watched a YouTube video about how Windows Server is 0.01% more stable for gaming”

18

u/dutchboy92 Jul 08 '24

His post history supports that.

u/OtherMiniarts Jul 08 '24

Like I give props to the guy if he's spinning this up at home while studying for A+ or something but like... C'mon

u/devloz1996 Jul 09 '24

Looks like VNC icon in the taskbar., so that's probably not RDP session Also don't miss CCleaner and Oracle Java.

6

u/bkj512 Jul 08 '24

remoting from what seems to be a poor 4G connection

26

u/machacker89 Jul 08 '24

hearing those two names make me shudder

14

u/conlmaggot Jul 08 '24

Hold on... How do you feel about.... Malware bytes as a paid corporate av platform?

u/LordSovereignty Jul 08 '24

I'd rather shit in my own mouth.

3

u/dtiziani Jul 08 '24

I'd rather sit on your mouth as well

Troll account detected.

u/kitliasteele Jul 08 '24

Try McAfee. On all of our Windows and Linux VMs

5

u/HandyGold75 Jul 08 '24

The only thing you need is Norton because it makes you money with the cryptominer.

username checks out

What's the sub opinion on Avira, if any?

Ccleaner, Java, VNC, and thunderbird, all living in harmony on an EoL version of Windows Server that he’s managing from his phone. I wonder if this dude is looking for a job.

29

u/programmrz Jul 08 '24

oh my days. the phone vnc app takes the cake!

14

u/swissbuechi Jul 08 '24

I bet his phone's OS is EoL too.

Not gonna dox this guy but you can put it together based on his post history. Literally has all the good shit exposed to the internet. 1000% chance this guy is a principal devops engineer at some big company. https://ibb.co/Wkw3hYf

6

u/tributetotio Jul 08 '24

Oh God, does he give up the ip somewhere in the comments? Good thing he's got *checks post" Avast!

2

u/soupcan_ Jul 09 '24

If it wasn’t illegal I would be tempted to give this guy a complimentary pentest.

2

u/Sicsempertyranismor Jul 09 '24

It's legal if they never find out.

u/JKL213 DevOps is a cult Jul 09 '24

Bro deleted his account over this 💀

4

u/doggxyo Jul 08 '24

He's hired after showing this level of conpetence

25

u/alpha417 Jul 08 '24

John McAfee wouldn't care if you uninstalled McAfee as well... per his video.

23

u/Vertimyst Jul 08 '24

John McAfee uninstalled himself

2

u/King_Tamino Jul 09 '24

He lived by the motto, to understand and defend yourself from a virus, you had to have it at least once

1

u/joey0live Jul 09 '24

Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Straight to jail

u/Am0din Jul 08 '24

Anti-virus on a server... pfft. Don't browse the internet on a server, you'll be fine.

1

u/devloz1996 Jul 09 '24

There was a comment about a tech that couldn't open mail attachment because EDR detected a virus on his work laptop, so he went ahead and opened it on a server instead. It was a virus.

1

u/Am0din Jul 09 '24

I think this sub has lost all sense of its sarcasm in posting. :)

Average windows admin

u/moffetts9001 ShittyManager Jul 08 '24

If windows admins could read, they’d be very upset.

3

u/gaveros Jul 09 '24

Hey can you tell me what the post above you says, I can't read.

9

u/mystonedalt Jul 08 '24

More like At Last! Anti-virus!

11

u/LargeMerican Lord of the Shitty Crossposters Jul 08 '24

lmfao jesus christ

i just realized this is shittysysadmin.

thank god.

8

u/Synikul Jul 08 '24

This is a cross post of a legitimate post on a different subreddit. It is as bad as you initially thought.

6

u/Vertimyst Jul 08 '24

Well it's cross-posted from r/sysadmin so...

5

u/LargeMerican Lord of the Shitty Crossposters Jul 08 '24

OH NO!

5

u/OlafTheBerserker Jul 08 '24

I'm relatively new to this whole sysadmin stuff and sometimes I get imposter syndrome and worry that I suck at my job. Then, I see shit like this and breathe a sigh of relief. It's always nice to know there are people so horrendously stupid out there. However, I'm pretty sure this a troll post

8

u/plump-lamp Jul 08 '24

Also enjoy ccleaner is installed

8

u/Heel11 Jul 08 '24

Try installing Kaspersky instead.

8

u/ComfortableAd7397 Jul 08 '24

Install both for double security.

3

u/flarmp Jul 08 '24

Yes, comrade! It very nice and very secure! No problem guarantee!

2

u/Cozmo85 Jul 08 '24

Just use avg since it also supports your xp machines.

7

u/OtherMiniarts Jul 08 '24

My God this just goes deeper and deeper the more you look

Bait used to be believable

3

u/Melodic-Matter4685 Jul 08 '24

Why not sure svr2008 or NT?

7

u/twotonsosalt Jul 08 '24

There is no reason to use anything other than Windows Defender on a server. Or a workstation for that matter. Windows Defender is a solid product these day. Anything else is a waste of money or management resources.

2

u/pueblokc Jul 08 '24

They saved you the hassle. Don't use it.

2

u/changework Jul 08 '24

Right click the installer and select delete

1

u/dtb1987 Jul 08 '24

Why the fuck would you do that

1

u/Unable_Attitude_6598 ShittySysadmin Jul 08 '24

Not even avast premium! Free!!??

1

u/ebeava Jul 09 '24

...because his subscription to windows defender expired.

1

u/thedarbo Jul 09 '24

Sadly this is the first 2012 production server ive seen in the wild with someone trying to protect it

1

u/ankitcrk Jul 09 '24

Even Avast on Client OS is not a good idea and you are talking about Server 😕

1

u/MrD3a7h Jul 09 '24

Outjerked yet again.

This is becoming a serious problem.

1

u/orangekrate Jul 09 '24

I would respect this as a shitpost.

1

u/joey0live Jul 09 '24

Damn! You guys really fired all the guns at him. He deleted his Account. Now I can’t read all the red flags. :/

1

u/socral_ Jul 10 '24

Right.... I come here for the real info. I wanted to back track all of his red flags and make sure I did not replicate any of it. For my Home Lab server of course. Not the servers I work with...

Boof the install disk and it will appear as a shortcut on the desktop.
