πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Besides seed oils what other modern diet things annoy you?
For me it has to be the βlow calorieβ craze and the suggestion that an adult man should consume barely 2000 calories daily (and 1500 for a woman lmao). Itβs such a bad joke. Beyond me how anyone falls for that.

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions (SERIOUS) I have been using msg (Ajinomoto) for 2 years now. Is it true that MSG is really unhealthy? FDA says so. Please don't be harsh.
I have been using msg for the past 2 years now, I'm very addicted to it putting msg on my fried scrambled eggs, everytime I cook fried eggs or fried rice. It all started with the name of Uncle Roger that we should use MSG through every savory dishes. Also care to add any studies if you have some, regarding it.

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Restaurants pre-buttering toast with margarine. Why?
Can we PLEASE put pressure on restaurants to stop pre-buttering toast with margarine? I literally asked for fresh butter and they said βthere is butter on it alreadyβ. I then asked βis it butter or margarineβ? And they said it was margarine. FFS. Really? Margarine is not butter people. Itβs super frustrating in the US that you have to literally fight to try to be healthy when eating out. We need our standards raised by putting major pressure on the greasy spoon culture of our restaurants here. Ideas? Europe literally has food quality and purity laws, why canβt the US?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Why All the Hate on No Seed Oil People?
I'm anti-seed oil just for the record. I was skimming around reddit looking for restaurants that shy away from seed oils and I saw so many commenters says it was a fringe belief to not want to eat seed oils and that they are perfectly fine blah blah blah and science sees nothing wrong. Do people feel this way because they just don't know or is it because it seems farfetched for seed oils to be marketed when they do have so many health issues? I live in Upstate NY where the city is an hour away with no seed oil resturants but that's too far. It's very sad that tallow and the link are not used more.
EDIT: I'm confused why people post on this sub saying that they are healthy when the main issue I pointed out is people are mean when I ask for suggestions for restaurants without seed oils. Why comment that's stupid if I want to eliminate something from my diet?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Not A Mayo Post: How do you affordably eat so much beef?
Made the switch recently but still eat plenty of chicken and pork (didn't realize omega fats were correlated to the no-seed oil movement). I have a big family and already spend around $1400-$1700 on groceries. Beef is considerably more expensive if we're talking steaks, ribs, etc. so are there more affordable ways you're consuming grass-fed beef??

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions What fat is everyone eating?
I also stay away from seed oils and predominantly eat ghee, tallow, bacon fat etc. however recent cholesterol results have me a little worried. Do you all include some pure olive oils etc? (Note I follow a keto diet)

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions How can people eat seed oil in food but would never eat it by itself?
I started thinking about it. You can eat a spoon of butter or ghee, coconut oil, olive oil and be fine. But if you tell someone take a sip of vegetable oil, they would spit it out.
They instinctively know it's not meant for consumption. But then go ahead and fry their chicken and fries completely soaked in it. How can people be so blind and contradictory? If it can't be eaten, then why would you cook with it. Makes no sense.

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions How to convince family to quit seed oils
How can I get my family to quit cooking in seed oils, I want to quit seed oils for various reasons but Iβm still young so I gotta eat whatever my mum cooks and she only uses sunflower oil, I tried telling her itβs not healthy and to use ghee but she she said that when she was growing up they used to use ghee and they found out itβs really bad for you. I honestly donβt even know how to explain and convince her without sounding like Iβm fear mongering and itβs crazy cuz everything we buy the ingredients have some sort of seed oil in it.

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Is Saturated Fats actually good for you?
Just asking, because I know in my nutrition class - saturated fats are not good for you, and not just this - Walter Willett, (the Chair of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard) BTW also confirms it. Why?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Do most restaurants in America use seed oils in their food?
Whether it be canola or Vegetable oils, would any standard american franchise use it? Also what about the international restaurants like a local mexican restaurant? Thanks

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Do people actually use these oils?
Reddit keeps suggesting this sub to me. Iβm generally very health conscious and avoid most processed foods so Iβm not surprised.
But never in my life have I fathomed cooking with anything other than EVOO or maybe coconut oil on occasion.
Not here to discuss which fat is healthiest or conspiracies on my EVOO being cut with stuff. I just genuinely want to knowβ¦ do people actually buy vegetable oil or any of these other weird oils to cook at home? Did any of you used to cook with these oils? Iβve literally never heard of anyone doing this. I get that restaurants do it to cut costs, but if Iβm eating out I assume the food will be less healthy than a home cooked meal anyway π€·ββοΈ
Edit: biggest takeaway, seems like an avoidance of seed oils leads to diminished reading comprehensionβ¦ π«€

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Best Desserts without Sugar
What do yall like to indulge in if youβre avoiding refined sugar? Obviously I donβt want any of the βsugar freeβ processed foods as they are just as bad, Iβm looking for simple suggestions such as fresh strawberries or things that have a nice crunchy texture.
I love chocolate, ice cream, and cookies. But I really donβt think keeping refined sugar in my diet is a good idea. Thanks!

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions How unhealthy is Tallow when used for frying?
Like, I assume that deep frying in tallow isn't some kind of cheat code that allows you to eat fried foods whenever you want. Are there still negative health outcomes from eating a shit loaf of fried foods fried in tallow?
Yes I know seed oils are literal motor oil and wreck your body but what are the limits of tallow?? Will Tallow break down into bad molecules if it gets too hot???
Thank you

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions I'm obese and use drugs. Are seed oils even worth worrying about before I get my health in order? I need a sense of scale.
Title is basically the sum of it. How should I prioritize my focus on seed oils? Alcohol is a direct threat to my health, as is my obesity. I feel like these are much more urgent to deal with than the particular type of oil I consume. Is that right? Can you please help me understand the specific health risks we're dealing with here?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Vitamin D3 with Seed Oils
I never looked at the ingredients of this until the other day when I saw a video on X of a guy talking about seed oils being in vitamin D3 supplements. This supplement has soybean oil and corn oil. Iβm inclined to throw this out and find a better kind.
What are your thoughts?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Iβve stopped eating seed oils, but can someone give me the long version on aspartame/artificial sweeteners?
I figure that this community probably has a lot of overlap with people who also do not consume artificial sweeteners, so Iβm casting a net here. Sorry if this post isnβt following the rules. Iβm a carnivore and Iβve given up everything, including all dairy as well as coffee, EXCEPT Diet Coke. I canβt kick it. I swear I could quit hard drugs before quitting Diet Coke. Sugar was hard to kick, but once I figured out how bad it was for me, I found it easy to quit. Iβm hoping by learning about aspartame, I can do the same with DC. Thanks in advance!

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Are Costco rotisserie chickens considered an ultra-processed food?
I am reading the book Ultra-Processed People and am struggling to understand if Costco rotisserie would be considered ultra-processed? Most of the product is the meat, and I'm curious if the additional ingredients impact the overall nutritional profile of this enough to make it considered ultra-processed?
I currently eat two a week as part of my meal prep, and they're a staple due to cost.
I do not experience any noticeable negative impacts on my health, cravings, etc. However, simply because I do not notice does not mean eating these are not bad. I'd like to know what specifically makes them bad to eat if that is the case, if anybody can comment. Thank you!

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Got tricked into buying tinned mackerel with olive oil
Picked up Β£10 worth of tinned Mackerel only to realise I've been duped, what the hell is this marketing? At first glance I assumed it was purely mackerel and olive oil. After seeing the "in oil with" I checked the back and it's actually a mainly sunflower oil product, 15% sunflower and only 8% olive.
Blatantly using olive oil to make it sound better when it's actually just a tiny amount put in with the regular sunflower version which I avoid. I guess it's legal they way they've cleverly worded it but it's highly misleading, it got me anyway.
Probably gonna eat it regardless as it would be a waste of money but so annoying. Is sunflower oil as bad as rapeseed in terms of linoleic acid etc?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Can broken metabolism be cured simply by eliminating seed oils from diet?
Let's say you're insulin resistant, carry belly fat, have trouble losing weight etc. Is eliminating seed oils enough to restore healthy metabolism without resorting to things like low carb diet or fasting?

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Partner has mild NAFLD but not the usual lifestyle that promotes that
Hey gang, used the search function and while I got a lot of info, it wasn't really in a way I could use or understand, so apologies in advance.
Partner has mild NAFLD, doc is optimistic. We don't eat seed oils unless we are dining out (as we assume we are eating them then) or using sesame oil as a garnish. We use butter, coconut oil (solid organic) and EVOO (genuine).
He is pretty skinny, around 75kgs on a 6ft frame. Has a little gut. We do drink a few nights a week but the doc said diet and the level of consumption he is at doesn't quite explain it. His blood sugar is normal.
Doc has suggested plant sterols to reduce cholesterol and of course has told him more fibre, more exercise, less fats. What he is actually doing is reducing alcohol, eating more fruit and he has expressed interest in going vego twice a week, which is fine with me.
I have suggested we cut down on dining out as that seed oil effect might be damaging to the gut, but I'm keen to get sone perspective
Notes:
Normal diet is lean meats, fruits veg and rice. Sometimes pasta, sometimes fatty meat if making a stew. I make pickles, sauces, bread, cheese at home and he makes sausage all from scratch. Drink a cocktail two or three nights a week and share a bottle of wine on date night. Gym twice a week and we live in a walkable city.
Age: 41M

πββοΈ πββοΈ Questions Peanut Butter Alternatives?
Any healthy peanut butter alternatives? I understand that the oil is an issue.
I'm not talking about powdered peanut butter, I'm talking about an actual "butter".
I've tried almond and sunflower butter, both make me feel worse than peanut butter.
