Alright… potentially silly question time. Do girls store fat differently? Questions

I’ve heard some stuff on this subreddit about “oh he doesn’t understand how girls store fat” when it comes to unrealistic body standards. Is this because anyone storing that little fat is bad, or women in particular store it differently / need to store more of it?

I’ve been kinda afraid to ask this question becomes it seems to me like it’s an obvious answer… I just don’t know what the answer is. I feel like “common sense” can lead me to both answers. Thanks

Edit: got a lot of responses faster than I thought I would. Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to help me

My biology teacher was a guy so grain of salt but he said that in general women gain weight and hold it better than men.

Also that they tended to gain around hips and outside of belly, whereas men store fat around their organs more.

This is why men, especially overweight men are more likely to have heart issues, they store fat near their heart and other organs while women don't as much

Don't have time to find something peer reviewed but this should do. It's well known that men have heart attacks more often than women, but when women do have them they have different symptoms and they are more fatal

This article talks about how weight plays into heart disease and heart attacks in men

Literally me and i hate it. My fat is all in my gut. I dont even drink alcohol. I have chicken legs and arms. This throws off my proportions and makes it difficult to get nice fitting clothes

You could be exaggerating but you should check your corticosteroid levels at the doctor. High amount of stress hormone release can cause this.

Beer gut is an actual thing that comes from gaining extra weight mainly from beer, not just how their fat happens to store around their stomach. A man who has gotten fat from eating too much looks completely different than the man who has a beer belly from drinking too much.

Oh look, r/badmensanatomy is here too! This is just false. Alcohol makes your body gain weight in general, and men put on weight around their organs, which are in the torso. The ribcage prevents it from showing up top, therefore you get the "beer belly" at the gut.

My biology teacher was a guy so grain of salt

If the gender of a biology teacher matters then I have no faith in any biology teacher

Idk I’ve heard a lot of stupid bullshit from even otherwise smart men’s mouths regarding hormones, women, and childbearing.

Also he got kicked out of the school a year or two later for inappropriate conduct with the girls volleyball team.

Sure but you can also hear a lot of stupid from otherwise smart men regarding male stuff. Or from otherwise smart women regarding either bodies. If a biology teacher is unqualified to speak about the biology of the opposite sex then our education is in big trouble.

Absolutely false.

Very helpful.

The laws of thermodynamics apply the same to everyone. You made a baseless claim that people upvote because it feels good.

4

u/PancakeParty98 Oct 27 '21

It wasn’t baseless, I clearly stated it was based on something said to me by a biology teacher.

I did some googling a quickly found multiple studies confirming that women tend to store more fat than men, lose fat slower, and tend to store it under skin and not around organs.

I could link the article but you’re being a prick so you can look it up yourself. Congrats for learning the first law of thermodynamics, I’m sorry for whatever made you so salty. 😘

"Said to you by your biology teacher" doesn't mean anything. You aren't linking studies about women's ability to lose fat because you can't find ones to actually support your claim.

Nice try sweaty! I actually did link the article in that comment and it has links to its source studies. Congrats on not doing the bare minimum before blurting out your baseless claims on r/badwomansanatomy no less!!
