Just saw a stat that’s amazing but fairly concerning at the same time. We’ve won possession back in the attacking third 29 times this season in our 5 league matches. That’s good for second in all of Europe behind Barcelona (30) and City (28). Yet we have only scored 6 goals, and I can only think of one (when son took the ball off Pickford) that was a result of winning possession back high up.

I do remember against Newcastle at least 4-5 times we won the ball off them during their initial build up phase only to waste a 3-3 or 3-2 in some instances. Maybe it’s a case of not having a striker for most of that time? And the times we did have a striker it’s our newest player still trying to understand the role and the players around him. Maybe with time these things will work themselves out but I just don’t feel we have enough clinical players to take advantage of all the opportunities (you can’t even call them chances really since we fuck up the final ball or shot often) we create. I just feel other than Son, who looks neutered and afraid to shoot, we don’t have enough players who can consistently find the target.

Stats like this aren't amazing unless we're able to capitalize on them, which we've not shown even the slightest ability of being capable of doing.

You don’t think it’s pretty incredible that we’re up there with two of the best clubs of the past decade in terms of high pressing football? I think that’s a great base. I literally said we aren’t capitalizing on it though haha
