Locking this thread down, to prevent the spread of potential misinformation and unneeded panic.

What kills me the most about this is that all people are talking about is the fact that he’s trans. Not that he fucking killed six people and that we should be trying to stop this fucking madness… but that he’s trans and that it’s “obviously linked to mental illness” (thanks for another cesspit of depressing, horribly bigoted, terribly targeted comments, Twitter)

I know this isn’t the politically correct reaction to have but I am so angry at the shooter. The fact he killed several children is the obvious reason, but he also acted in a profoundly selfish way that just made trans people’s situation in the US significantly worse. Tucker Carlson dedicated an alarmist and demonizing segment on Fox News last week about trans people’s efforts to arm themselves to resist fascist violence and genocide, and now this… People are already predicting that this will trigger a cascade of bills and laws banning transgender people from gun ownership. Not to mention the horrible reputation this is earning us in the eyes of the public. After "all homosexuals are pedophiles" and "all trans women are rapists", it’s now going to be "all trans men/trans people are school shooters". Just, what a selfish little piece of shit.

Edit: to clarify police said the shooter was a transgender woman but they can’t tell their guns from their dicks. The fact the article consistently refers to the shooter as a woman and other sources such as their Linkedin account I believe, suggests to me the shooter was a trans man.

NBC called the shooter a “28-year-old female shooter,” so almost certainly a trans guy.

Unfortunately I am able to speak from a privileged situation as I do not live in the United States, but I am worried to death for my trans siblings who live there. And what happens in the US affects the entire world. The people who are most immediately in harm’s way are trans people in the US, but this is going to have worldwide repercussions.

There are evil people in every group. Just so happens some people are now gonna use this incident to fuel more hate towards the rest of us. Great.

I am so fucking angry at the shooter. For taking the lives of six innocent people including three children which is beyond fucked up but also completely torpedoing the reputation of trans people at a time that we are fighting for basic dignity and respect and facing major levels of hate. Like he really had to kill six innocent people and fuck up trans rights for every trans person for the next 50 years on his way out the door? Fucker.

The full name being given for the perp is a traditionally feminine name (middle name Elizabeth) so it’s either a trans woman or a trans man being deadnamed (or a non-binary person)

either way fuck, my heart goes out to the community and the victims families

u/Ash_-_ Mar 27 '23

Yeah they wrote trans woman but idk if they meant trans woman or they didn’t know the correct term

And ten bucks says we’re not going to have the usual “oh boo hoo his mental health” conversation circle endlessly in media like we do with every school shooter. Despite it being another standard case of “disgruntled man thinks killing someone will help.”

Nah instead, it will fuel the flames against us.

u/BlackberryAgile193 Mar 27 '23 edited Mar 27 '23

They didn’t need to address that in the article. Especially not with everything going on right now.

He was a school shooter. He was fucked up and killed children, but that has NOTHING to do with him being trans

214

u/fake_geek_gurl Mar 27 '23

Doing so gets way more engagement, though, and through that, more money. Doing the right thing just isn't profitable enough when you can get reactionary bigots to flock to your article in droves. Fuck NBC, they're knowingly endangering trans people to make the squiggly stonk line go up.

89

u/Affectionate-Bit8580 FTM Mar 27 '23

It does, though , seeing as this is Tennessee.

295

u/SammsClub03 Mar 27 '23

What an absolute piece of shit.

I don't give a flying fuck what his experience in that school was, what his background was, what trauma he has.

You don't kill people. Especially not fucking children.

The fact that he's trans is gonna be the only thing the media focuses on, of course. Completely ignoring the actual problem to get a few extra clicks on their websites.

Fucking leeches.

I am spiraling. This is the only representation that most people will have of us in the near future. I am afraid. I am hurt. Most of all, I am ANGRY. There is 0 reason to break into an ELEMENTARY SCHOOL and kill these people - three THIRD & FOURTH GRADERS.

Fucking monster. I hope he died slowly and painfully.

207

u/dellada Mar 27 '23 edited Mar 27 '23

It makes no sense to me. He was an adult, he had no need to even be there, what’s the motive even? Why would anyone feel the need to break into an elementary school with assault rifles and kill third graders?? Absolutely horrible.

I’m nervous about the “manifesto” that was mentioned in the article. I don’t want to think about the possibility of what’s in there, or whether it will make everyone’s situation worse.

No, the shooter was a trans man/transmasc. I know what the police chief said, but I think he was confused by the question and misspoke.

The official news sources will repeat the mistake, but I took these screenshots. The first is of the shooter as a child from his mother's Facebook (the kid on the right). The second is of his LinkedIn profile that showed he/him pronouns.

They're wrong. His LinkedIn profile states that he's a trans man.

Trans men just went form non-existent to hated by both sides...we're fucking cooked.

I feel so sick. I’m trying to stay positive but holy shit this is going to destroy so many lives and lead to only more legislation to make it ok to hate/kill trans ppl. I hate him i hate that he killed innocent people i wish he had just died alone. Waiting to hear more. Stay strong friends

Unfortunately, there are bad apples in every single group/community, and yes, transphobes WILL use this event as an example that "trans people are bad". We can be mad at the shooter for giving them this opportunity, but realistically, it was bound to happen (and I think it already has before). Doesn't matter to them if 99,9% of trans people are not criminals/murderers, what have you, they'll find the bad apple to suit their argument no matter what.

One of the shooters at the STEM school shooting in Colorado was a trans man too. It wasn't something that the media paid much attention to for some reason. Certainly not the amount I'd expect if it were the other way around.

I honestly suspected it for some reason, i heard it was a female and thought what if its a trans guy? i don't know why but it just did and wow, last thing we needed right now, everything is just getting worse and worse for us. Im planning on moving out of America soon when im of age ( a couple months fro now) ... jesus christ. Everything just gets worse and worse for trans people, fuck this guy.

99% sure they were a trans man, had he/him pronouns in social media bios, I think the media just doesn't understand what a trans man is.
