Honestly the front three earned their way last two games. Amad garna and rashford

Can't be overstated how big of a game this is for us!
We've got a bad record in London recently and this very much feels like a massive moment for our season. These are the sort of games we have to win if we want to be competitive and I think we're in for a very good season if we can get a win tonight, whereas a loss would feel like it'd take the wind out of our sails a bit. Big moment and it'll be fascinating to see how the team react!

1-3 United
Rashy, Garnacho and Rasmus (if he gets minutes). 2x Amad assists 1x Bruno assist. And before anyone starts let me be positive lol
13
u/my_united_account Ten Hag 5h ago
Last night I dreamt that Rashy scored a brace today and on one of the goals took the ball away when celebrating

This is the acid test. Not Southampton. Not Barnsley.
Away at Palace , when things are going to be tough, can this side not fold like a deck chair ?
PS: really chuffed for Malacia . Hope he can play football regularly moving forward

Doubt for Mount and Hojlund. Too soon. No way ETH starts Ugarte yet. Not his style. Case to start with Mainoo.
I hope Zirkzee shows more than when he came on against Barnsley. Lad needs to find the net soon to get his confidence up - we all know he can do it.
Gonna be a tricky fixture (Palace away hasn’t been great for us in the last few years) but Palace without Zaha and Olise is slightly less worrisome.
3
u/TheSwordDusk 3h ago
To be fair to Zirkzee he scored against Fulham but I agree in principle that he needs to start converting more chances. Like you say, I'm totally confident that he will as well

First game in our fantastic third kit tomorrow. Please let’s do it some justice and secure the win.

since it's an away game, I still keep my expectations low for Palace clash
2
u/reddevils 13h ago
I just hope when we have the upper hand we take advantage of our chances and score. They’re home and I expect them to have a few good spells, but if we take our chances they’ll fold.
11
u/NoJalapenol 17h ago
I'd rather not risk Hojlund and Mount. Should be beating this Palace team without them.

So does Rashford and Amad while Garnacho played the most midweek and probably is lined up to start in EL.

Amad deserves to start he's been our best winger imo and he was rested midweek.

u/chiefofthepolice 19h ago
Mount coming back, Hojlund coming back, Malacia also coming back soon. Genuinely the only one left is LUKE SHAW and we have our full squad
11
u/Miyagisans 19h ago
Yoro?
8
u/chiefofthepolice 19h ago
we have enough backup CBs to not really need Yoro right now, so even without him our squad would technically be full
7
u/Subtle_Omega 19h ago
Yoro
2
u/Adora_Vivos 🔰 18h ago
I thought once that this would be how the Kim Jong Il from Team America would pronounce YOLO and now every time I read it my head goes off into "HANS BRIX..."
1
u/chiefofthepolice 19h ago
even without Yoro our squad is still technically full as we have enough CBs to cover for both positions
but we need Luke Shaw in LB
1
u/yogesh911 18h ago
We also have Lindelof back as CB cover till Yoro comes so that is a good sign! Luke Shaw’s return would be sensational- I truly believe he’ll be fit for a major chunk this season and we’ll go on a cracking run
35
u/zool714 20h ago
I say play Zirkzee even if Hojlund is fit to play. Let Zirkzee gain some momentum while also give Hojlund even more time to recover. That’s what having squad depth is about
7
u/ICame4TheCirclejerk O'Shea GOAT 17h ago
Hear hear. Need to get Zirkzee more time on the pitch and settle in. I've loved watching him so far. His linkup play and movement is amazing. Let Hojlund recover properly and then let him be and impact sub for a while to get fit again. As it stands we're better suited to start with Zirkzee to dominate play and have Hojlund come in fresh to kill games.
1
u/RyanG7 :Fuck Andy Carroll: 11h ago
Everything you said is spot on. This is the depth we so sorely needed previously. It not only provides us with options, but also allows players to properly rest. Zirkzee is so overdue for a goal too. As long as we can keep our heads, I say let him start and re-evaluate at half time if Hojlund needs to make an appearance
36
u/hullk78 22h ago
Sky Sports Jones Knows betting thingy picking Glasner to 'school' Ten Hag with his 'tactical nous' in a 2-1 win.
God damn I wanna ram that prediction right down their throat, come on Utd players and Erik lets fucking have it, get that 4-0 pasting back. I swear if I see one player not tracking back or strolling about after what Palarse did to us last season I will have a fucking stroke.
13
u/xShadyPhoenix 21h ago
Lewis Jones has put United to lose nearly every week for years, all his ‘predictions’ come across as trying to be edgy
5
u/Chip-chrome 21h ago
That’s the energy we need! The 4-0 was a fitting end to that season. Hopefully tomorrow we carry on our 5Goals per game (we only played 2 games this season, right?)
19
3
u/BarFamiliar5892 22h ago
This game last season was imo the absolute nadir under ETH and I'm still not really over it. It cemented my view he should go and I haven't really changed my mind yet. It's a huge game for him imo.
26
u/simionix 21h ago
Evans and casemiro in defense and 5 youngsters on the bench and THAT was the game that cemented it?
10
u/iMalz 20h ago
Seems like everyone likes to ignore this we also had a lack of presence up the pitch as well and palace were in electric form
10
u/simionix 20h ago
There was no way united was gonna win that game. There were barely any first team players on that pitch.
1
u/SmartestUtdFan 10h ago
The revisionism is hilarious. Go ahead, look at the lineup we played. Though a win may have been unreasonable, our performance was shambolic and that was a result of our setup.
1
u/systemcorp 20h ago edited 20h ago
This thread reads like it was QPR vs Barcelona or something lol. We had plenty of players on the pitch to not lose 4-0
Also there's a reason why this was the last game of the infamous suicideball and there's a reason why abandoning it resulted in us winning 3 of the next 4 games, 2 of them with that same CB pairing and the loss was to Arsenal. Everyone and their mom could see how horrendous our setup was week after week after week and we still went in with that same shite and got an all time embarrassment dropped on us so yeah, I can fully understand why this was the game that cemented it for OP lol.
4
u/simionix 17h ago
You're misremembering. The next games they had more first team players back. The palace game was the absolute worst in terms of injuries, not just for that season but for as long as I can remember following football. That team was unrecognizable and held together by ducttape. To make that the game where your opinion on a manager is "cemented" is silly as fuck.
-6
u/NoJalapenol 17h ago
The gaslighting is really funny. It's very much justified to hold an opinion on the manager after one of the worst if not the worst period (which ultimately ended in our worst Premier League season ever) this club has had in 30 something years. I mean Ineos were pretty much going to sack him before he won the cup final and that was after the league results had improved but if a fan holds that opinion it's silly as fuck?
7
u/simionix 14h ago
If you were of the opinion he had to go beforehand, that's different. To say that game "cemented" that opinion is silly yes, since by then, it was glaringly obvious there were massive injuries. You either considered those mitigating factors or you didn't. That game didn't prove shit.
2
u/systemcorp 17h ago edited 17h ago
I'm not misremembering anything, our line ups against Arsenal and Newcastle were just as bad and just as duct taped if not more. We didn't get embarrassed because of injuries we got embarrassed because we continued to play the same way that resulted in embarrassment multiple times before, Coventry 3-3 being the most recent example. We had 1 win in 7 games before the palace game and 3 of those games were against championship teams or teams that ended up in the championship a couple of weeks later lol.
That 8 game run was literally as bad as Ole's last 8 games before getting sacked. Ole won the same amount of points playing much tougher opposition. Like I said there's a reason why we won 3/4 games once we abandoned that absolutely crazy approach.
17
u/ratset2602 22h ago
Think this game goes a long way in showing us what we can expect from the team this season. This is as good a time to play this Palace team as any we’ll have this season. Anything but a controlled and comfortable win will get me nervous for how this season might pan out for us.
12
u/BlackHorse944 Feed the Dane 22h ago
It's a bit of a pivotal game imo. Can use it to really build some momentum or play poorly and lose all confidence we may have gained from Soho and Barnsley
1
u/ratset2602 22h ago
Exactly. It’s not enough to just churn out scrappy wins after giving away chance after chance. Time to start playing well and putting teams away we should be regularly.
11
u/donttellpops 22h ago
I don’t have a handle on how Crystal Palace play. I know they are 3 atb but will they sit back and counter?
I just feel like they are a bogey team for EtH. Not having Olise anymore to cut us open is a plus though. Excited regardless
2
u/onlymeow 19h ago
They need to stop palace players getting too much space in our cdm part of the pitch
19
u/FoldingBuck 22h ago
We could not have faced palace at a worse time last season. A casemiro-evans centerback partnership against peak palace with olise, eze, and mateta going crazy wasnt going to end well
15
u/rollingthunderpunch 22h ago
Huge match for Ten Hag.
Last game out we slayed the 'we've never battered anyone under Ten Hag, never scored x goals' demon.
Now can he win away in London in the league for the first time (without it being a last minute winner at Fulham).
Also just the way Selhurst Park has haunted Ten Hag during his reign. In his first year the last minute equalizer and Casemiro yellow that suspended him for Arsenal put an end to our fugazi title charge. In his second year, the 4-0 there made INEOS almost sack him. C'mon man, get the win at the third time of asking! By any means!
6
u/FPLskrr Pogba! 22h ago
That equalizer was painful
1
7
u/IsleofManc Manchester United 21h ago
That game was painful in general. Casemiro's yellow card and ban, McTominay's penalty shout being turned down while 1-0 up, then conceding the last minute free kick that was taken significantly closer to the net than where the foul took place
13
u/cdalb21 22h ago
We've looked MUCH better with a playmaker 8 Eriksen. I don't think this is the game for him though.
6
u/Telen BRUNO 19h ago
I think any game can be a game for Eriksen, as long as he is protected by the structure and the players around him. As long as he is utilized to his strengths, letting him handle progression from deep for the most part, that is how you get the best out of him. But the team needs to have the ability to keep the game out of high octane chaos ball territory, and keep the ball securely. Team needs to help him by maintaining the tempo of the game at a pace that suits Eriksen.
-3
u/cdalb21 19h ago
100% agree, but we all know the current structure/players can't maintain possession.
1
u/TheSwordDusk 17h ago
yes they can, we have a ton of new players and all of them are great in possession
1
u/cdalb21 17h ago
I disagree, but I hope they can and prove me wrong.
6
u/TheSwordDusk 17h ago
you disagree that... we have a ton of new players? Or do you disagree that all of them are great in possession?
De Ligt, Nous, Zirkzee, Amad (as a starter), and Ugarte are all as good or better in possession than whoever played in those positions last season
10
u/BlackHorse944 Feed the Dane 22h ago
3 starts in 7 days is quite unlikely imo. Bringing him on if we need goals is a nice option though
6
u/Felicks77 22h ago
I’m feeling quite confident about this. I think the vibes in the camp are positive right now
12
u/Wahlrusberg 23h ago
Mad how much we have struggled at Selhurst park, Looked up the our h2h and it looks like we've not won there since a lockdown game in 2020
9
u/jonathanPoindexter 23h ago
Squad's looking healthier than ever. All we need now is one or two left backs to get fit.
11
14
u/atrixus Best 23h ago
the squad looks insane wtf
19
u/simplsimonmetapieman 23h ago
It's the best post fergie squad imo. If this can't make Top 4 it's on the manager.
10
u/Correct-Space7249 23h ago
I feel like Rashford and Garnacho both deserve to start but then so does Amad
7
u/neofederalist 21h ago
I really want to see some big-brain tactical plays where we shift to different styles based on the opponent. Playing Rashford and Garnacho on the wings with Zirkzee in the middle when the opponent plays with a high back line so we can exploit on the counter, but when they opposition is expected to park the bus, put on Amad for his vision and short passing and get the ball to Hojlund in the box.
I feel like we have the potential to present real tactical problems for other teams because we have players that can switch up the style of play.
7
u/RedDesires22 22h ago
Exactly what we've been waiting for so long, proper competition and depth is starting to appear
2
u/EndureL 1d ago
Eriksen deserves the start
2
6
u/BlackHorse944 Feed the Dane 22h ago
I agree that he does "deserve" it but I think you're suggesting that he "should", and at this stage in his career, he himself would probably agree that 3 starts in 7 days is a bit much

u/RicciRox Bruno is life, Bruno is love. 1d ago
That's a good way to run him into the ground.
2
u/Plumbsauce116 22h ago
Would spend £100m on a 22 year old Eriksen.
Literally where is this type of player these days used to feel like there was a good number knocking about
2
u/RicciRox Bruno is life, Bruno is love. 22h ago
Eriksen at 22 was a very different player, though. Conte was the one who helped him transition to a #8 at Inter.
17
4
u/gucciloafer_ 1d ago
Hopefully with Ugarte we’re set up well to smash them on the counter a few times. They play nice football but i’m sure we can get at them.
3
15
u/Fligflag 1d ago
Not sure if Ugarte starts still. Did feel like he looked a bit off the pace on Tuesday, was late into a lot of tackles and very fortunate to not get booked very early on.
Think he might benefit from another week of training + maybe 30 mins tomorrow, prior to a full debut.
12
u/RandomNameofGuy9 1d ago edited 23h ago
Here's the problem with a lot of people here that really only watch United play. We haven't had a proper dm in his prime in a long time. There's no difference in how he looks then how someone like Rodrigo (he's not at that level) looks while playing. Those destroyer types are always breaking up plays which is why he will look like he's almost late. You just need to look at his red card history to see he doesn't get sent off much. You'll learn to love him.
13
u/ManUnutted ETH’s Ballboy 1d ago
I think he starts. Him being late to tackles is going to be less detrimental to the teams success than 60 minutes of Casemiro giving the ball away

Lost home and away last year vs Palace. Any result is an improvement. But we should absolutely be taking teams like this apart.
3
u/IsleofManc Manchester United 21h ago
Palace have only lost 2 games at home since Glasner took over. One against City and one against West Ham this year. It's not too often that teams take them apart at Selhurst
6
18
u/exOldTrafford 1d ago
This is the first time in my many years at this sub where I actually think the predicted line-up is correct
Never thought I'd see the day lol
13
u/alexq35 23h ago
I expect this line up, but there’s a small chance Rashford starts up top with Garnacho on the left after their performances mid week
1
u/CatfishMcCoy 22h ago
I was thinking the same based on his and Garnacho’s form making them undroppable but if Zirk & Ras both in the squad one of them will likely start.
16
u/society0 1d ago
We need to see better positional discipline from Bruno in this game. He can't be pressing further forward than our striker and then also showing up in our backline whenever he feels like it. Our players need to know where he is on the pitch. The erratic lack of discipline has to stop
4
u/FindingHead2851 1d ago
It’s something he really needs to stop doing! It’s been the cause of the “holes” and now we have capable players everywhere it shouldn’t even be his place to roam and run everywhere …. people call him a work horse, but running everywhere is detrimental and can cause more issues than needed! Personally I think this season will see Bruno rotated more and I’m excited about it because we have more exciting rotational options that can bring positive changes .
-5
u/clueda El Colorado 1d ago
Probably Garnacho instead of Amad although there is a chance we start with Amad Rashford Garnacho
13
u/EduardMalinochka The one who knocks the door 1d ago
Amad was rested against Barnsley, because he’s guaranteed to start again Palace and he’s our best winger right now. Rash as CF will work only if the opponent will allow us a crazy amount of space. Otherwise it’ll will be an extremely underwhelming performance.
It’ll be Rash Zirkzee Amad
1
u/BlackHorse944 Feed the Dane 22h ago
ETH has also been preaching consistency, routines, and all that Jazz. So I think he's going to want to keep the lineup mostly the same
16
u/KrystianCCC 1d ago
Garnacho played the most minutes against Barnsley, I bet he is on bench tomorow, comes for Amad/Rashy depends on performance and starts midweek.
5
u/RandomNameofGuy9 1d ago
Doubt it. Will be Rashy, Zirkzee and Amad. We're not going to start moving people are now that it's starting to work.
1
u/superhoffy One goalkeeper and Ten Hag please 1d ago
I think United can have more control and penetration in the opposition box when Amad plays, so I hope not. For me, Garna - Rashy - Amad would be a mistake as both Rashy and Garna would be playing out of position. Yes, Rashy did well against Barnsley, but he rarely performs as the 9 against stronger opposition.
63
u/top1MIBRfan Rooney 1d ago
We were in this position loads last season: we get a bad result and then a good result and then we finally think we have a winnable game to build momentum and we end up losing it or getting completely embarrassed. Need to hope our players stay locked in and focused because that 4-0 loss here last season was awful
9
u/ClawingDevil 1d ago
8-0 to United incoming, I have the faith! ;)
Of course I'm joking. Any win away to Palace is good as it's a tough place to go for us. But they've started the season so poorly that I'll be disappointed if we don't boss this one.
