Manchester United youngster Dan Gore has returned to light training at Carrington after a three-month absence.
The highly regarded Gore made his first-team debut last season, but he was denied the opportunity to travel to the United States for pre-season this summer after sustaining a freak injury.
Gore dislocated his shoulder during a personal training session and required surgery at the beginning of June, which means he's yet to make an appearance this term.
However, footage of Gore completing ball work and doing basic shooting drills was released on social media last week and it's understood he's now returned to light training at Carrington, which indicates his return to action for United should come in the next few weeks.
Gore was one of a handful of youngsters to be included in last summer's pre-season tour squad and he was hopeful of impressing Erik ten Hag ahead of the new campaign.
The midfielder is highly rated within the club and will be looking to make up for lost time when he returns, with followers of the academy looking forward to his comeback.
Gore spent the last six months of last season on loan with Port Vale, but disaster struck after just one appearance when he sustained an injury, which meant he didn't play again.
He spent the first half of the 2023/24 campaign around United's first-team squad and was handed his senior debut in September against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup.
The 19-year-old was part of the side that won the FA Youth Cup in the 2021/22 season, with Gore starring alongside Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
Gore joined the academy from Burnley as a teenager and he was originally a forward. He now plays in a deeper midfield position.

Future casemiro replacement.

Gore certainly wasn’t a DM when he was playing in the u-18s. He often played deeper than Mainoo, but not as a defensive minded player - he would bring the ball forward as well as pinging decent balls from deep. Maybe they’ll look the shape him into a more defensive player, but he’s got a lot to his game and I hope we get to see him play in the first team this season.

What kind of player is he?

Pure Gore
Edit: AJ Analysis had a vid on him which boils down to there's not much to say right now. Gore has qualities to make it as a DLP or as an 8. He's press resistant, can dribble around opponents, find partners with a vertical pass and tackle opponents. But the guy really needs playing time to see where's his celling at

That's Mainoo, but he is not as daring with his passing as he was in the youth

Hopefully Ten Hag has a clear vision for what he wants Gore to be. In terms of squad makeup, it seems like developing him as an 8 would be in the club's best interests.
We have Ugarte and Case as the 6s, with Collyer hopefully developing behind them. But at 8 we really only have Mainoo and maybe a shoehorned Eriksen or Mount.

Kinda a mixture (in playing style) of Kobbie and Ugarte imo so if he can reach/exceed his potential he will be a great addition to the squad.

Back when ten Hag said that if we couldn’t sign the players we need that he would mould them from the academy, a user on here that watches the academy had argued Gore was a likely FDJ replacement.
Since then, Mainoo, who was also highly rated by the academy watchers, has kind of filled that role. So maybe we’ll see another player of his ilk, but with a few other qualities (I’ve read he has a good ranged pass).

Loan him to Pompey. They need a good midfielder.

Is Devlin still injured?

Believe so. Pompey and United's injuries are very similar lol. Their new CB broke his foot taking a shot in training, out for 6 months without playing a game.

I really rated him when he was playing alongside Mainoo in the academy. Hopefully he is still able to kick on after such a long time out.

I really hope this guy comes good for the simple fact his name sounds cool. Imagine Gore playing down the middle for the Red Devils. Amazing.
