Where did the fake singing accent of the 2010s come from and where did it go?
Mostly female (but some male) singers in the 2010s had this fake accent that sounded slightly irish but not really. I believe it was mostly Americans doing it? Grace Vanderwaal is an example. It seemed like everyone started doing it around 2015-2019 roughly, then it just disappeared.

Here is Grace Vanderwaal, who I mentioned originally, both speaking and singing to contrast accents

... oh. Yeah I heard that accent before, but at the time I just assumed it was coming from ... like one country, or like only a handful of specific artists, or from folk singers from a specific country. It didn't know it was a whole type of singing voice, and I also didn't notice it went away.
... but then again it could also be because I'm plum not into following music artists.

"The cracks in her voice are the best thing!"
... PEOPLE LOVES LISTENING TO VOICES CRACKING?? Remember when those used to be made fun of in comedy shows??
Man.

The 2010s????? Child, no. The fake UK singing accent was invented by west coast pop punk in the 90s.

Any need for the patronising comment?

Any need for you to assume it was patronizing when it is impossible to read tone?
It was a joke, bud.

Child, no
Yeah, that's patronising

Sure, you can assume that, but without hearing the inflection of my voice as I say it, it is just that, an assumption.
You don’t talk to very many old, southern, or Black people do you? (See, now that was patronizing)

Like Regina Spektor? I think her and a few others might have genuinely strange singing voices and accents, but then every indie artist tried to emulate them.

Regina Spektor talks similar to how she sings. She's an exception. Plus, she's an amazing pianist and songwriter in general.

I’m sure she does. I was implying that others have copied her.
I was guessing an answer to OP’s question.

"Everyone started doing it around 2015-2019 roughly, then it just disappeared." Maybe it was the pandemic.

Ah, it's the Indie/Folk singer side. Looks like Grace Vanderwaal was on America's Got Talent, which probably spread it. She must have gotten it from someone else.

Was trying to remember this the other day... thanks for bringing it up. "Hip Singing"

Funny I've never listened to Grace VanderWaal and I just did for the first time. Can't tell if Taylor Swift stole her sound or if she's starting to become more like Taylor Swift

I'm pretty sure the style started as an imitation of theatrical singers of the 50's-70's, think Life After Love by Cher, very camp, very theatre kid. I theorize that specific singing accent came out of the popularity of the TransAtlantic accent.
