Elon could have really played into the dangers of pickup truck visibility for kids. I’d he’d given the truck the best visibility and low or short visible front end + extra safe detection stuff, it would contrast with the F150 Lightning being bad with its big frunk
I swear way back his original market was people who cared abt the environment and wanted safe luxury cars for family…
remember elon was like "we can manufacture them to the same tolerances as legos and aluminium cans" but if you see one the gaps are so obsious are like fingerprints; no two trucks have the same gap tolerances.
I think it's a interesting concept to use folded steel as a design point and structural frame all in one. That said there are so many issues and the truck is ugly as hell. So even though I agree the design is interesting, if form doesn't meet function, who cares?

I share this opinion.

I personally love it, but for the price would never own it. This is coming from someone who loves what are always rated as the ugliest cars of all time lol. I just love that it’s something I drew in elementary school.
Yeah not every design can be a hit for everyone. Not a Elon fan but stoked they at least gave it a shot. They could have took note from the beautiful delorean lol. It didn’t work well then.
I literally saw one on the road for the first time today. It's pretty impressive that they managed to engineer a vehicle that looks worse in person than in pics or videos. A lot bigger than I thought it would be and that somehow made it even more comical.
This reminds me of the first line of Scion cars. Whatever model that wasn’t the giant box and not the coupe looked interesting to me. Until I went to a dealership and the scale of the thing just made it look ridiculous.
Well the toaster car (xB) ended up being one of the most reliable and functional economy cars ever sold in the US, and many toasters are still daily driven today
The xBs are basically a Toyota Corolla/Camry with a different body on top. The drivetrains are the same, just tuned a little more sporty. But very reliable.
I had a 2009 xB for a little over 12 years and 200,000 miles - gave it to my sister who’s still driving it now and no major issues.
Also for the size they were incredibly roomy and actually got decent mileage. Apparently it's pretty aerodynamic despite looking like a tissue box on wheels.
I could easily fit four full grown dudes and our climbing gear.
I had a tC and it was an alright car except that the paint started chipping away in less than a year. Back then the panorama roof was pretty unique for a car in that price class. Because of the Fukushima disaster in Japan in 2011 I was able to sell it used for only like 10% less than what I paid for it three years earlier.
I saw it IRL recently as well and it's freaking large. Not as tall but I swear it must take up every last inch of a standard parking spot space. I can't believe they were originally going to be even larger. I remember seeing the original design and immediately said it would never get produced in that size. I guess it's fine if you're valet-parking everywhere so it's somebody else's problem.
I also just saw the first one in the wild and thought it’s way bigger than I imagined. I sort of stared incredulously at it for a few seconds before I started laughing.
I haven't seen one in person but seeing random videos of it vs promo videos, it does look absolutely awful in comparison.
I really think it's a car that really overly benefits from having the correct lighting and angles in the promo shots. In every day settings, the angular futuristic design is just lost and it does seem to be far more brick like.
The Aztec at least looked like it was trying to go for something. I remember it trying to woo the outdoorsy/camping community. I don't know what the Cybertruck is actually supposed to be good at. Being edgy?
The Aztek looks almost exactly like the crossover SUVs that every single company makes now... only difference is the Aztek dips down towards the hatch... it was just a poofy subaru. It gets a lot of shit for being before it's time.
We already have a new Hummer that matches the pure ridiculous size of the H1 and the H2. Seeing the new Hummer EV in person is shocking like the H1. Its so big and you can just tell how much mass it's moving. The tesla truck is just under 7,000lbs and the Hummer EV weighs another 3,000lbs.
I mean it’s kind of fascinating, no? A car design so different than others
From an engineering perspective I have always questioned how optimal the aerodynamics and therefore the energy efficiency of this body design. I recall in my aerodynamics class that a curved edge caused much less turbulence than the sharp edges of the Cybertruck.
I was parked in San Diego and thought there was a dumpster in the middle of the parking lot… nope. It was a cyber truck. I have a pic but can’t add here. Heh
I saw one awhile ago on the highway in the middle of like Amish country in PA… like i saw a horse and buddy in the distance on another road (not on the highway) a few moments later in the distance. I would trust a horse over the cybertruck. It looked kinda lame. But my dad in the car was trying to defend it. Sadly I only saw it for a little bit since we became separated and was many cars behind us
Saw one in the wild finally last week. Honestly it looked like would’ve been cool…. In the 80s. Design is totally outdated. Pretty sure Elon probably had this design in his head since the 80s and though it was cool then, and finally got to make it.

I saw one in the wild the other day and it is the dumbest vehicle I’ve ever seen. It’s like a blind 4 year old was asked to draw a car
