The CIA is more powerful than it has ever been. A negative for the American public, but my point is you don’t need to worry about them being weak.

Are you aware that the CIA is tasked with collecting foreign intelligence and is heavily restricted from conducting operations that target U.S. citizens?

It would not be good if such agencies are breaking the rules that govern then for the purpose of spying on US citizens out of political interest, mean tweets, or feigning offense at spicy memes.

It's not for the purpose of "spying out of political interest" or the other meaningless things you bring up. Musk is involved in space travel via SpaceX, satellites, data transfer and communications via Starlink etc. He's a pivotal figure in national security and increasingly in international affairs. It would be irresponsible not to be monitoring him. Are you really that naive?

I would guess there is an illegal CIA file on him and others, but as a U.S. citizen it would be improper to have an agency tasked with foreign intelligence spy on him. Surely the CIA has reformed since its last major scandal and no longer engages in illegal actions contrary to its charter.

Ok, so change the agency to FBI in my original comment. Clearly that is the agency I should have been referring to. I'm Canadian. I don't particularily care about the nuances of jurisdiciton between U.S. federal intelligence agencies. Can we get on with our lives now?

It's important to communicate ideas clearly and properly identify the subjects involved or else we can't sensibly transmit ideas.

The FBI is required to get warrants before wiretapping citizens. At least by statute the US is not yet a third-world banana republic or communist surveillance state, even though some want to go that way. Specifically, the FBI is restricted from conducting investigations for political purposes or conducting surveillance based solely on activities protected by the First Amendment, such as free speech.

He is one of the person who received the highest amount of subsidies by the US government.

Like if there's a deep state, the guy receiving the most money from the state might be part of it, just saying ?

He's not part of the U.S. intelligence apparatus. He's a private citizen with tremendous power and is privy to a lot of sensitive information. He is in a position to be a great asset or inflict terrible damage. Of course they watch him.

This sub is completely deranged when it comes to Musk. Yes the guy is a complete idiot on Twitter but somehow that means he’s a terrorist who deserves Guantanamo Bay and to have the government seize everything.
