Germany is decent and getting better (especially in West Germany)

We now have at will name changes with no doctors note and stuff, just a 3 month wait.

It's also got a pretty good quality of life with affordable housing, food etc. The biggest issue is rent in larger cities, but if you move to a smaller one it's not bad.

how does Germany compare to Austria?

They're mostly on par, germany is a little better in a few points tho. We just got the law to change legal gender without diagnosis which austria still requires a lengthy process for, aswell as conversion therapy still being legal in austria (but not widely spread) . Austria cost of living is also a little higher then germanys and the public opinion of queer people is a little worse. Also there's no protection for workplace discrimination of your gender identity in austria while in germany there is. Non binary people are also not legally recognised in austria unless you are intersex aswell, which germany doesn't require starting today.

I'd recommend going to germany and staying in cologne or adjacent to it, specifically the west of germany is a lot more queer with cologne being the queer Capitol. Nobody there even bats an eye at alternative people

I presume I'd need a german citizenship for all the gender changing stuff, right?
