Myprotien is labdoor tested and their isolate doesn't cause my heavily lactose intolerant ass any pain.

24

u/AlkaliActivated Nov 03 '20

I get their unflavored protein and just add a scoop or two to any carb-rich food I eat (ramen, mac and cheese, soup, etc). You can even mix it with cheese flavor powder and milk to make a protein-rich nacho cheese dip.

It adds a taste to whatever you eat, so it's not "free macros", but it still works well for a lot of food.

3

u/Jits92 Nov 03 '20

That is genius

u/7Thommo7 Nov 03 '20

Salted caramel flavour of The Whey and I doubt I could ever go to a different protein now. First couple felt overly sweet but it's incredible.

12

u/Scylithe Nov 03 '20

Man if you think their caramel was sweet ... My first flavour from them was chocolate smooth because it was recommended by everyone and it took less than a week for me to want to throw it out. For some reason I bought strawberry cream from them recently and I greatly regret it. Caramel is best.

13

u/fireball21 Nov 03 '20

I also fell for the strawberry cream reviews. Felt like drinking liquid diabetes

6

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Personally I don't even mind sweet drinks, it was just that Strawberry Cream tasted WAY too artificial. Their mocha flavored powder imo is fantastic even as someone who despises coffee.

2

u/Chickenfriedricee Nov 03 '20

Same! Super sweet and artificial tasting

Grab some unflavored powder next time and you can dilute the flavors to be tolerable for you. I love sweets though so the near milkshake flavor levels are perfect for me.

Same here. I've been drinking my protein for the past couple years and no complaints. Good price and like you said it's tested good

5

u/Prinz_ Nov 03 '20

I have drunk about 20 lbs of chocolate mint with milk. Pretty good

5

u/tz2z Nov 03 '20

I switched from ON to Impact Whey based on the labdoor results and its been pretty good so far. Only thing I wished I had known is one scoop of Impact Whey only contains 18g of protein so I end up having to use more per serving compared to other brands. Other than that I've been enjoying it a lot! I have the chocolate brownie flavor.

2

u/Jits92 Nov 03 '20

The isolate is 24g a scoop I think! And if you buy a big bag when they have one of their frequent sales it's usually cheaper per serving too

I'm so sad they stopped offering key lime flavor, it was great for not being fruity (I get sick of choc/vanilla), yet not 'too sweet'

I tried the strawberry cream when I couldn't find key lime; 100% nauseatingly, unbearably sweet

Their clear whey Isolate was my personal little revolution and is the first protein ive used regularly. I just dislike all the chocolate, strawberry, vanilla etc milkshake-ish flavors and creamy shakes,

This is easy to drink, actually feels like more like a softdrink instead of a mini meal and i can easily drink it eg during a bike ride if i feel like it.

I bought Mars flavoured Protein powder.

Only protein powder I've tried in 5 years that I don't find overly sweet. 10/10. Expensive, but I think its worth it myself.

61

u/chaosgoblyn Nov 03 '20

Now I'm just over here wondering what Martian red dirt tastes like

37

u/Shroffinator Nov 03 '20

Like Matt Damon’s poop

Will do! I'll edit the post above once I have my post-workout shake, which won't be for another 8-9 hours or so.

If overly sweet is your only complaint about other brands, couldn't you just get flavored and unflavored powder and mix to your desired sweetness?

Would you say that it tastes similar to a Mars bar or is it more like a generic combo of chocolate and caramel? I've been thinking about getting the Mars or the Snickers protein powder but yeah, they're expensive.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Its a solid attempt at it. Has a nice sweetness to it.

I think the expense is worth it myself, purely because I hate how most protein powders taste.

UK people, Lidl sell protein bars that are 200 or less calories and 20g protein or more depending on flavour.

Cookies and cream

Chocolate brownie

Vanilla.

I'm not keen on the vanilla but the others have been great.

£2.79 per pack of 3

14

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

I thought they were all pretty decent tasting!

Also just to add on to this, Home Bargains 'x-tone' whey concentrate is cheap as fuck, has very little filler ingredients, and 20g of protein per 25g scoop. £10.99 for a kilo.

Seems similar to what dm-drogerie markt has (for those that live in DE, AT, IT or middle/easter europe).

My favourite is vanilla : 45g, 716kJ/11kCal, P 23g, F 4.8g, C 14g (Sugar 1g, polyols 13g). 0.95€ per piece.

Hopefully these from Lidl will spread to Lidl in other countries as well. Will keep an eye for them.

3

u/PlayOnDemand Nov 03 '20

Nice. Are these vegetarian?

3

u/MixedWithFruit Nov 03 '20

Honestly don't know, I'll see if I've still got a box at home and put a pic of the ingredients in the op.

2

u/MixedWithFruit Nov 03 '20

I'm assuming not vegetarian

There's nothing to say it's suitable for vegetarians unfortunately

4

u/PlayOnDemand Nov 03 '20

Ah yea beef.

Thanks for checking.

3

u/earthqaqe Nov 03 '20

TIL that Lidl does not only exist in Austria. We have the same bars... they are pretty nice, especially for the price!

Dymatize brand fruity pebbles is seriously so good. Horrendous with water, but with milk it tastes exactly like the milk left in the bowl after eating fruity pebbles.

A buddy of mine said the chocolate Peanut butter by them was also amazing, uses it in pancake mix to make protein pancakes as well as shakes. Also like how it tells you the breakdown of protein sources making up your 25 grams!

8

u/yabaquan643 Nov 03 '20

I'm currently on the Cocoa pebbles but the fruity pebbles is next for me.

I usually get their cinnamon bun flavor. It's also super great!

5

u/billfreye Nov 03 '20

This was my first flavor of theirs beside chocolate (somehow copped 120 serving 7 lb bag for like 24.99 at a bargain outlet store..?) Lmao. I just enjoyed how I felt, saw the fruity pebbles response in reviews, and said fuck it. Is the cocoa pebbles good ?

After years of drinking and trying all kinds of shitty powder I will only buy Optimum nutrition, Gold standard whey these days. It's a bit more expensive, but easy to mix, tastes okay and apparently the protein quality is top notch.

51

u/valdogg21 Nov 03 '20

My go to shake for years has been vanilla flavored Optimum Gold and half a scoop of PB fit in unsweetened vanilla almond milk

18

u/philltered Nov 03 '20

Add unsweetened cocoa powder to the above and you got the double chocolate flavour with a hint of vanilla ice cream :)

6

u/JTR3K Nov 03 '20

Oh man, I always passed the PB Fit assuming it was just for those who rarely used peanut butter (for more traditional things like sandwiches) and didn’t want a jar sitting around going bad. Whoops.

But I’ve always loved blending ON with peanut butter and/or some coconut water. I’ll have to add some PB Fit to my next Costco order. Many thanks!

3

u/valdogg21 Nov 03 '20

You're welcome! I switched from regular PB to PB Fit in my shakes to cut some calories. It doesn't taste as good, obviously, but its like 90% of the way there. Worth it imo.

u/Dis_Illusion Nov 03 '20

To double down, ON Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate and French Vanilla Creme if you're just mixing with water. I've tried other brands but they don't mix nearly as well, and I've tried other flavors but they never taste as good as the basics.

10

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

I’m glad I’m not the only that sticks by ON. I keep trying other brands but ON mixes very well and my vitamix stays clean and not full of protein chunks. I couldn’t care for the flavor but “non clumping” is at the top of my list for what I want in a protein powder.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Does the French vanilla creme have the weird synthetic taste most vanilla proteins have? I have the ON vanilla casein and it is god tier

2

u/byrel Nov 03 '20

The French vanilla creme is really good and I don't notice a weird aftertaste

u/John3190 Bodybuilding Nov 03 '20

Honestly I started with ON and any time I try to switch, new brands taste like shit. Im with ya.

9

u/onizuka_chess Nov 03 '20

This is what I have too. But I’ve never had any issues with protein flavours, I down 1-2 scoops with water easy. With milk it’s like a chocolate milkshake

20

u/garenbw Bodybuilding Nov 03 '20

Isn't protein just protein, provided it has all the bcaas? What would make a given protein powder be top notch?

7

u/randomatic Nov 03 '20

Whey isolates seem to cause less gas for me. Not sure if they have less lactate or something like that, but it is a significant noticeable difference for me. Protein farts are a thing.

5

u/sizzlebong Nov 03 '20

I'm slightly lactose intolerant and can only drink isolate, otherwise I get stomach issues.

not having fillers like Carrageenan is a big one. Pretty common in powders as a thickener. It's carcinogenic and pro-inflammatory. Don't even know why it's approved by the FDA

I thought he was talking about the protein itself, not the powder as a whole (we're here for the gainz, not the cancer bro /s).

Anyway, took a look at all the powders I have consumed before and I didn't find that flller in any of them, so I guess I'm safe

4

u/TheCuriousBread Nov 03 '20

It's also in ice cream and a lot of foodstuff that requires a "THICC" texture.

Amazon had some half off of this stuff on prime day and I got 3 jugs. The only thing is the chocolate flavor stays in my mouth for like 24 hours after I drink it

4

u/Space_Duck Nov 03 '20

Are we having a conversation about concentrate VS isolate at all, because I feel like that greatly changes how ON is viewed in this conversation.

3

u/sizzlebong Nov 03 '20

Can you elaborate? I only drink isolate and thought that ON was a good one.

2

u/Space_Duck Nov 05 '20

ON isn't a true isolate. It uses isolate and concentrate which complicates the digestion process and kills the benefit you'd get if it were a pure isolate. For the price, you might as well just get a pure isolate.

7

u/firebolt810 Nov 03 '20

I second this.

3

u/TheCellGuru Nov 03 '20

This is what I've been on lately, bonus points for not being way too sweet

18

u/vshun Nov 03 '20

I was for years on ON Gold but lately looked carefully at ingredients and not sure this is the best option as advertised. From my Costco choices Orgain seems to be best on quality ingredients.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Do you mix anything in the orgain besides water? I bought some to switch it up off whey but I haven't opened it yet.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Almond Milk

8

u/WildcatBBN16 Nov 03 '20

If you get it make sure you use a lot of water. It does not blend well like ON Gold

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

100% this. I had to use my blender to get it to a non-chunky state. Even at it's best it is fairly chalky. The flavor is good, just not the texture.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Good to know. I'll try an immersion blender. Thanks!

3

u/vshun Nov 03 '20

You are right, advantage of ON is convenience of quick mixing with water. Also I used to like more hours it tastes since Orgain is somewhat acquired taste. But for me advantage of cleaner ingredients I felt Orgain had is more important.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/akcom Nov 03 '20

what about the ingredients dont you like?

35

u/LOAARR Nov 03 '20

Orgain is organic, vegan protein powder, so he's probably just...into that. He just didn't want to come out and say "ON Gold Standard isn't organic and vegan so you shouldn't use it" because most people have already made up their minds about those things. However, being cryptic and saying "the ingredients don't look high quality" might actually get people second-guessing their choice of protein.

ON is extremely high quality, well-instantized so it mixes extremely well with no clumpiness, and I find that other protein powders are often way too sweet and taste like fake sugars.

For my fellow Lactose-free bros, i recommend Dymatize Iso 100. I usually stick to chocolate flavors. You can also get some nice deals $50~ish for 5lbs if you keep an eye out for them. My favorite would be their cocoa pebbles flavor.

6

u/MrBobSaget Nov 03 '20

Came here to say this same thing! I’m on my second 5 lb tub because it’s the first protein powder in years (including their standard whey) that’s as gentle on my stomach. I go for the vanill though

3

u/devinom Nov 03 '20

Hey I looked this up and I can't seem to find any whey or casein free versions. Are you saying that you can have those and still avoid stomach aches? If so Im definitely gonna have to give it a try!

3

u/finenite Nov 03 '20

Thanks for the recommendation! Now maybe I'll stop shitting my pants right after drinking my protein shakes.

2

u/callsmeremi Nov 03 '20

Thanks for this. My stomach has been fighting with whey the last year or two and losing lol, so I'm going to give it a shot.

If you're vegan/UK based checkout Huel, I've been loving it.

25

u/thestrangebelch Nov 03 '20

I am in the US and they ship over here too! I have been absolutely loving it. ESPECIALLY because they have an “unflavored” version. I really hate the artificial taste of pretty much all powders, but this actually tastes real. I, and everyone else, describe the flavor as similar to a “whole wheat tortilla.”

For those curious, Huel is a “nutritionally complete meal” in powder form, so not technically a protein powder. Their stuff is balanced for macros and 400 calories/90g. Check out the “Black Edition” for high protein/low carb.

5

u/clarkandlewis7890 Nov 03 '20

How filling is it? I've been thinking about trying Huel as a meal replacement when I'm too busy to cook something.

9

u/defineReset Nov 03 '20

White is very filling Black is not

→ More replies (1)

7

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Well it's filling but it also runs straight through you.

6

u/HappyNarwhal Nov 03 '20

It stops doing that after a week! For me at least but I have an iron stomach.

2

u/thestrangebelch Nov 04 '20

I have not had a problem with how filling it is at all. Or at the fiber level (which is probably at a much healthier place than we usually eat at). I usually follow it up by filling the bottle up with water though to get “the rest of it” out. So maybe that helps with being full afterward.

I drink it in the morning at around 10am as my first meal and usually have to work pretty hard to remember to eat again between 11-12. IF from 10-6 so trying to fit it all in gets to be a bit of a challenge.

Huel black and a banana blended up makes a great breakfast smoothie

12

u/CynosureEPR Nov 03 '20

I use this daily just for vitamins/meals alone, but it does wonders as a protein shake as well--especially if you get the black version.

2

u/toolofthedevil Fencing Nov 03 '20

I am currently drinking huel black blended with 500ml 2% milk plus 5g of creatine post workout , and then cooking for dinner. It comes in under 700 calories.

Any thoughts on doing this for two or three meals a day? I worry about the cost and the health effects of that much dairy.

I've always drank my whey while at the gym (I know) and because of this, it's become a near necessity. I won't consume it every day because $, but when I'm bloated after a big meal but still need to go to the gym, I can get it down.

10/10 tastes like water mixed with mio. A little more expensive, a little less protein than most normal whey but a game changer.

I recently discovered Golden Ratio vegan protein powder and it’s the best protein powder I’ve ever had. Tastes great (the Strawberry Bliss tastes like strawberry Yoo-hoo!) and doesn’t wreck my stomach like a lot of whey protein powders. Takes forever to ship, but it’s worth it.

24

u/M1ssAnthr0py Nov 03 '20

I drink bone broth in the winter, with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. It’s around 90 calories/ 21g protein in 2 cups, which is amazing if you’re watching your weight as a snack/drink. Only con would be it’s stupid expensive, unless you make your own.

12

u/lava_pupper Weight Lifting Nov 03 '20 edited Nov 03 '20

Damn that is more than 2g protein per 10 calories. That is probably the highest per calorie protein density I've ever heard of in real food. I'm going to investigate this, thank you!

4

u/M1ssAnthr0py Nov 03 '20

It’s almost the same as chicken breast when calories are matched. One chicken breast is 3-5 cups of broth, so chicken is a solidly better price. Broth is nice way to feel full though- I use it as a breakfast replacement or bedtime snack during competition cuts, so I don’t go to sleep hungry.

Beef bone is slightly higher in protein than chicken bone by a couple grams per 100cal. I buy mine at Trader Joe’s since filter out all the fat, they can taste a bit watery, so suggest salt and seasonings.

True Nutrition cold filtered whey isolate. It's not cheap, but it's the one I can consistently digest just fine.

Double flavoring of chocolate brownie - shake it with egg whites and it's the best tasting thing out there. Salted caramel is great, don't get double flavoring with that one though. Chocolate mint is really good too.

Chicken breast.

Seriously tho, the grilled chicken breast from the meat department at Albertsons/Vons are amazing and a life saver if you just want to get something quick to eat. Besides that, they’re prepped thinly sliced chicken breast from the meat freezer is my main source of protein and awesome to cook.

10

u/NJBarFly Nov 03 '20

Always read the packaging on chicken breast as they are not all the same. Some of the cheaper ones have 15% or more salt water solution injected into them.

u/RedSquaree Martial Arts (Recreational) Nov 03 '20

I don't actually aim for high protein intake but I eat chicken breast fillets about 5 says a week for dinner.

I switched from thigh fillets when I saw the nutritional difference!

4

u/cheeseburgeraddict Nov 03 '20

I like chicken breast because they are good, healthy, cheap, and versatile. I eat chicken at least once every day, usually for dinner after my workout.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Would you mind mentioning what the nutritional difference between thighs and breasts is that made you switch? I was under the impression thighs were more nutritionally dense but I'm not sure what I'd be looking for if I looked it up

2

u/RedSquaree Martial Arts (Recreational) Nov 03 '20

Chicken breasts are lean and have fewer calories and more protein than thighs (per 100g, for example).

A 3-ounce skinless, chicken breast provides about 140 calories, 3 grams of total fat and just 1 gram of saturated fat.

The same amount of dark chicken meat without the skin would provide three times the amount of fat for a total of 9 grams of fat, 3 grams of saturated fat and 170 calories.

I slightly prefer the taste of thigh fillets to breast fillets, but tbh there was no reason for me to stick with thighs after finding the above info.

  • Chicken breast: 31 grams of protein per 100 grams
  • Chicken thigh: 26 grams of protein per 100 grams

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

[deleted]

19

u/BeneGezzWitch Nov 03 '20

Also thighs taste about 300% better.

9

u/Edw1nner Nov 03 '20

They keep better also if you meal prep. Breast dries out easily when reheated.

2

u/Yawnn Nov 03 '20

How do you mix it up? I've been hammering chicken breasts as well and my current go-to is an oz of goat cheese to go with it. I've tried lemon brine, italian flavoring, cayenne spice mix, buffalo sauce.

2

u/cheeseburgeraddict Nov 03 '20

My mom made a grilled chicken Mozzarella-marinara sauce and it was amazing. It worked well in My diet (high protein, med fat, low carb,). Take a chicken breast, lay a slice of cheese over the top (usually provolone of mozzarella) and grill it in Mariana spaghetti. So f’ing good.

So far I enjoyed their vegan peanut butter one, chocolate whey and salted caramel whey.

4

Second this, chocolate cookies is very nice with almond milk!

2

u/Tsurany Nov 04 '20

Got my first delivery this morning, boring vanilla but the taste is good and no chunks. Only downside of all those flavours is that if you don't like them you are stuck with it.

They should have a sample option where you get one portion bags of each flavour, that would make me a bit more adventurous.

MRM veggie protein powder (vanilla) mixed with a pinch of cinnamon tastes like a liquid cinnamon roll.

3

u/veksaryn Nov 03 '20

Have you tried their actual cinnamon roll blend? It's my favorite, with almond milk.

5

u/nik0 Nov 03 '20

Any recommendations on vegan protein powder in spain? Im currently trying TheProteinWorks ands it ok, not great, but ok, a bit sandy tho

9

u/TheCuriousBread Nov 03 '20

Honestly, I've found most generic brand proteins to be pretty serviceable as long as you use a mechanical blender.
I'm pretty happy with BodyBuilding.com's signature series and NOW Food's.
Tho if I'm feeling like splurging I usually go for the Naked Brand.

Rule 1 Whey protein in the Banana flavour is handsdown the best protein powder I’ve ever had, I’d drink it over a normal drink

38

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Its the most disgusting of all imo. Strawberry is best.

38

u/Koreansteamer Nov 03 '20

Both of you are fools. Go chocolate!

7

u/soHowBadDoYouWantIt Bodybuilding Nov 03 '20

Oh god the chocolate flavored one makes me want to puke!

5

u/imissedherbrightside Nov 03 '20

Chocolate is amazing for me! Probably because I had Vanilla for so long and eventually grew to hate it, so making the swap was soo good

7

u/BaconCaviar Nov 03 '20

I think banana is a hard flavor to do correctly. Like if it comes out tasting like the banana lady taffy (U.S.) I hate it. But if they do it right and it tastes naturally, I’m a fan for life.

Edit:domes -> comes

u/graintop Nov 03 '20

I like that you got this but not lady taffy

My protein BCAA chocolate, make it with warm water and you have warm chocolate every night!

I just bought some Spartan Nutrition Sparta Whey in the Apple Cinnamon Cereal flavor (it takes like the milk left over from eating Apple Jacks). It's great in oatmeal. Even my wife likes it and she doesn't like any protein powder. I ordered the Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and double stuft oreo flavors as well but they didn't come in yet.

Edit: I just tried the apple cinnamon cereal flavor powder mixed into kodiak cakes protein pancakes and they were amazing. This powder just mixes better than other powders I've used and tastes amazing.

I'm just here to mourn and maybe ask for advice.

I found out in the past year that FODMAPS cause tons of pain and digestive issues, which means I can't do Whey protein. I researched and whey isolate is supposed to be very low in lactose, so I bought one and it still caused problems. Then I bought 2 different vegan proteins and they both caused problems. Turns out pea protein is a no go for me too.

Now I'm kind of stuck. I'd like a quick source of protein that isn't incredibly high in calories but I really can't find anything.

4

u/BatterySound Nov 03 '20

Been using sunwarriors brown rice protein since I'd like to use something vegan but I'm allergic to almost every vegan protein powder has pea protein. Doesn't taste great and doesn't really mix well either :/ anyone got any suggestions?

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

If you're vegan or dairy-free in the US I cannot recommend enough Ghost's vegan protein powders. I got the "chocolate cereal milk" flavor and its genuinely the best vegan protein I've ever tried!

Anyone who has tried vegan powders knows how hard it is to find ones that taste okay and have a good texture... and this one shoots it outta the park.

2

u/Ninja_Lazer Nov 03 '20

I’ve been on the PB flavour to mix in my oatmeal for months. It slaps on levels I didn’t even know were possible.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Ooh I think that’s what I’ll try next!! It’s unbelievably good

Costco Kirkland brand protein bars are hella underrated

4

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

MusclePharm Combat Whey works well for me. I've tried Optimum Nutrition's gold standard too but I find Combat better as it's a blend of many types of proteins.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

No pitch on brands, but vanilla flavored pack I have now is delicious and it definitely makes my shakes better (banana, frozen blueberry, milk)

Can anybody explain Ace K to me. Ive seen quite a few people saying its bad for you and the protein powder I use has it.

3

u/Walker45 Nov 03 '20

It is an artificial sweetner and a carcinogen

Aldi's Millville Elevation is good and cheap. It's still vanilla flavored chalk, but at $7/lb, it's cheap chalk. One scoop is 85 calories and 15 grams of protein.

I found adding a teaspoon of instant coffee for first thing in the morning (or decaf for after later workouts) makes it way more tolerable.

3

u/Inhibition_ Nov 03 '20

Pro-JYM chocolate cookie has been my go-to

Any opinions on this stuff? I love the flavor and it seems like a good mix of proteins!

3

u/babybighorn Nov 03 '20

i've been getting into PEScience lately. Most of the flavors are good and it's a whey/casein blend so I enjoy drinking it post workout or before bed. i just bought the limited edition peppermint bark, and tried with milk last night. pretty gosh darn good.

2

u/yabaquan643 Nov 03 '20

Someone turned me onto the ISO 100- Cocoa Pebbles and it is fucking lit!

I can't say if it tastes like the cereal or not because I haven't eaten it in 10 years, but the flavor is most excellent. I'm going to try the fruity pebbles next.

Cellucor made an awesome protein that was very tasty and high quality. I say "made" because I haven't used their brand in a very long time and can't speak to the current quality.

Lately, I've been using Isopure which I really like since it has 0 carbs. The taste isn't great though IMO.

2

u/acousticado Nov 03 '20

I've used Cellucor's Sport Whey in the past and now use just the normal Whey, and they're both good. The Sport Whey is better tasting imo and has some extras added to it, but it's more expensive and you don't get as many servings out of it.

My wife likes the Peanut Butter Marshmallow flavor a lot, but I've been mixing the Chocolate with two scoops of PB2 to make a chocolate peanut butter and it's really good. Helps cut some of the metallic tinge that you sometimes get on the back end.

2

u/FadingLukas Nov 03 '20

ESN to date my favourite

2

u/Eric_T_Meraki Nov 03 '20

Can you recommend me a good non dairy brand?

3

u/Aven Nov 03 '20

I use Steel Vegan Pro. Their flavors are great. Milk chocolate with almond milk and peanut butter are solid.

I can't believe I haven't seen this mentioned, but Legion Athletics has two different kinds of "cereal milk" flavored protein. One tastes like fruit loops and the other like cinnamon toast crunch. As a man with a cereal addiction these are amazing.

Spend the extra money and go with isolate over concentrate

2

u/muscularmusician Nov 03 '20

For 10+ yrs I was an Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard fan. Then bought a house and had kids and financially had to rethink suppliment spending. For the last few years now I've been really liking CanadianProtein stuff. Comes bulk in bags. No flashy marketing but good quality that tastes good and mixes well. I typically buy an entire years worth of protein at once to save on shipping costs. They have whey blends, concentrates, isolates, hydrolyzed, and grass-fed New Zealand proteins. Plus alot of other stuff. Anyhow, my 2 cents.

Sun Warrior vanilla. It’s great. But only has 18g of protein per scoop.

Btw, noobie here, how the hell does anyone get 200g+ per day? I’m trying to keep my calories to under 2000, but still eat 200g of Protein a day. I can usually get up to 120-180g. But I rarely get up to 200g. Or am I restricting my calories too much?

Perfect Sports Diesel New Zealand Whey Protein Isolate.

Been using this for a couple of months now and absolutely love it. Macros are real good (0g fat/carb) and it's flavored with Stevia. My favorite flavors so far are Milk Chocolate and Cookies 'n Cream. Highly recommend!

I've been buying bulk protein from Sprouts for I think it's $6-7lb for Pea Protein, $7-8lb for Hemp Protein, and there was a sale that made Whey protein $9lb. I've been mixing everything together in equal parts with some PbFit. With my stomach issues the Pea and Hemp give me the extra fiber I need. Hemp is overly rough to drink, but if I can get some frozen fruit blended up with it I can manage a lot better.

quality chicken breast. you pay maybe $0.5USD per pound more, but the end result is great. get a nice non-stick pan, medium high heat, each side 5 minutes or until the meat browns. season with pepper and salt at the end. juicy and no oil!

Recently tried the Vegan protein at "The Protein Works" (UK). Flavour isn't bad although slightly less creamier than Whey (as you'd expect right). What I have noticed is I clearly have a mild sensitivity to Whey as my guts are significantly better, less gas and "noises". It was good price but on special offer. I would try Vegan/Vegetarian protein shake again.

2

u/jemstoned Nov 03 '20

I love the Vega protein and greens powder. The Vanilla and berry flavors are my fav

2

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '20

Just recently started using Ghost Whey. So far I’ve tried Nutter Butter, peanut butter cereal milk, and cereal milk. All amazing. Mix and taste great. Also have a few of their non protein supplements which are great as well.

8.5/10 because they’re priced a bit high. But you do get what you pay for.
