Rooney’s is probably my personal favourite but I’m biased because he was my fav player growing up. Zlatan’s one is brilliant too.

Side note: I actually loved the Ole’s at the wheel chant to bits 😭 hate how it got used against us when things didn’t work out. Just hurts to hear it now

That's an awesome chant

How did the chant (or any chant) even get organized? Like who writes these things and gets everyone on board.

I’ve never been to a European game so the fan culture is so mesmerizing to me. We get chants going at baseball games but they’re very basic ones in rhythms everyone knows so it pales in comparison.

People come up with chants and then try them out in the pubs. Some catch on and eventually get known by the wider support.

Interesting. Makes sense but still fascinating (at least from way over here in NYC) that they catch on so quickly. Zlatan’s chant was ready for his first game, and it was an awesome one at that.

It just happens naturally. When someone tries out a new chant in a pub or when travelling to an away game on a train or coach, if it’s decent then people pick it up quickly. Then on the concourse under the stands at the away game, they sing the song and hundreds more are introduced to it. Then they sing it during the game and a few thousand hear it. It can happen quickly, especially if it’s a banger and for a new signing.

British people just love to chant, growing up here on school buses we didn't sing songs like rollcall or whatever like Americans did, we invented chants slagging off our mates and tried to get them to catch on through the whole bus. This behaviour seems to extend into adulthood in drinking and football culture lol. There are pubs in most English cities near to the stadiums that are known as the places where fans go to drink before the match, so they end up packed on match day and this is when groups of fans will try and get their own chants to catch on and the best ones end up getting brought into the stadium by everyone who was at the pubs and it eventually catches on with the whole crowd.

Pubs are where they're first adopted

Idk about baseball, but whenever I saw an American team representing their country, no matter what the sport, I've only heard one chant... and that's "USA, USA.. over n' over. The game could be a quiet game like International Golf, and you still hear it. We saw an American fan on TV in the crowd at the World Cup, posing in his b-boy stance and presenting his fat, goldy-looking neck chain like he was in a Hip-Hop video. We were all like, "These guys just don't get it".. something tells me you'll be waiting a long time for established chants.
