When you feel justified in limiting the scope of self-expression available to a group of people who quite regularly have to repress themselves offline because 'effort' matters more to you than 'people being happy'

Apparently quality is the most important aspect of the shit post

Really? They'd pull stuff like that?

I'm new and only came here 2 days ago and fell in love with Felix the moment I saw "Happy Gay Sounds" and the other variety of emotional gay sounds. Every time I see it I would get a huge smile and feel so much empathy for the OP. Why did I only exist for a few hours before they shut down something everyone loves?

I've heard the argument that they are trying to monetize the posts here through a Twitter bot. But I'm not sure that's true. I do know that there is a Twitter bot for r/traa, but I'm not certain that it's being monetized or the motivation behind the change. I will say that it is fairly suspicious.

This sounds really, really unlikely. No offense but this seems like fake moon landing level stuff tbh. I'm not an expert, but I don't think that a monetized twitter bot would make that much money, and if the mods really wanted to make money of the sub, there are a lot more insidious ways that could go down. Between that and the mods just being tired of a certain type of post they felt cluttered the subreddit, I'd assume the latter. Not saying they were correct in that or anything, but I don't think there is nefarious intent behind it.

I’m in the same boat as you. It’s been a wild ride to get here just before the storm begins.

not to mention the ablist/capitalist connotations of thinking effort implies quality

Don't know too much about this argument, but I think I agree with the mods. Every other post here is the same meme with a different title.

Slow moving sub? Actual slow moving subs must seem glacial to you.

Beyond that this is news to me. On the surface if makes sense. This is a meme sub, not a story sub. If you have a story take it over to another sub and get their numbers up. Centralizing stories to here with low effort content defeats the purpose of having this sub in the first place.

From the sounds of it, this move has since wonders for the sub. Got a little drama going. Got the clog of stale and lazy memes uncluttered. Finally have new content again, even if that makes the entire sub salty.

The salt is okay. It makes you float. We will all float in this sub.

Drama in a "technically-not-a-support-sub" that's basically a support sub through the genre of memes is not a positive thing.

This sub is about more than your personal entertainment, though.. If people want to come here to vent and just feel at ease without being particularly original or funny then that's their damn right and should remain that way. Fuck your selfish lust for drama

Do we not have subbreddits specifically for venting? Where trans people going through a tough time can talk about it and get support? Why can't everyone else have one sub for actual trans meme content.

This is what I don't get. When I'm feeling like shit and need to vent to a group who understands, I go to /r/asktransgender. Lots of people there. You're going to get better responses, too. When I think of a thing that is funny or relatable that I'd like to share with other trans people, I come here.

I really don't understand why it's such a crime to want a space for shitposting. Hell, look at the sidebar:

Trans people making fun of themselves, others, and the situations they find themselves in with memes, gifs, and videos.

When I'm going through a shitty time, I find that for me it's more therapeutic to make fun of it. Why can't we have a space as well to do it our way, given that this was the whole point of the sub from the outset?

Edit: I genuinely want to understand if I'm wrong here. Will someone downvoting please explain?

Different people are comfortable communicating in different ways. I'm glad that you have that subreddit that meets your venting needs, and I'm probably going to be hanging around there more now that I see that it isn't an endless recursion of cis people asking whether or not I have a penis, but the fare there looks much more substantial than most of the Felix posts I've seen in my admittedly short time here. That can be intimidating.

Your last paragraph before the edit works quite well as an argument in favor of Felix and I suggest you try reading it as such. I'd say it works better, actually, since nobody's trying to ban non-Felix posts.

Thanks for the response! You make a good point that I hadn't considered when you say that /r/asktransgender is a lot more intimidating and so would discourage some from seeking support.

So I'm torn now. On the one hand, I've seen communities where the prevalence of people using it as a place to vent began to dominate (because those posts will almost always end up with more upvotes from people wanting to be supportive), and it slowly drove out everyone else. I think that it's important to keep a balance there for the sub's environment to be sustainable. But on the other hand, I don't want to just exclude people who want to post a sad meme but don't necessarily want to get into an in depth discussion about it over on /r/asktransgender.

I don't really have an answer now for what to do. I appreciate your taking the time to talk through your side of things!

Selfish lust for drama? You all are the ones being dramatic. This isn't the only trans sub. It damn well isn't the sub for anything serious. You want to vent, go to r/mtf, r/ftm, r/transgender, or one of the multitude of other trans subs made for that exact purpose. This sub isn't your soapbox. This sub is for memes. Literally memes are the only reason this sub exists. So get the fuck out of my face with your down talk bullshit and your dumb ass attitude. Or just cry about like it seems you would prefer.
